JP One cant ignore the similarites to this book and the civilization described in the book of Numbers in the Bible. Assemblies, chores, rules, chiefs, etc. It's all there. There is even a conch mentioned although it doesn't use that word. Anyone else notice this?

Will IV They parallel each other because they both use "tribal" terms? Ummmm...

Budd Don't eat piggies?

Jeni Well, at the risk of sounding skeptical, I think it's possible to make anything seem similar to something in the bible, if one really looks hard enough.

Any story that discusses values and morality will be reminiscent of the stories in the bible, since that is their purpose, in my opinion.

Alexandra Well, the children are all public school educated (in the British sense of the term) in a period when such an education had a heavy scriptural emphasis.

So, as they revert to a tribal state, it seems natural that they would use biblical terminology to describe their social structures.

This may not even be deliberate - it might simply be that the author also shares that vocabulary.

Feliks There's chores in the Bible?
