Hi, I'm new and I wasn't sure where to post/comment so here I am >.< I'm currently reading The Lord of the Rings, and am about half way through book six, so almost finished.
Not sure if it's still relevant but my favourite characters have differed from the movies. In the movies my favourite characters were Aragorn and Gandalf, however in the books I feel far more connected to Sam, and feel more deeply involved with characters like Eowyn and Faramir- who I did love when watching the films, but don't feel like I connected with them in the same way.
Oh that's awesome!! Once you're done with the books tell me which was your favorite! Mine was The Two Towers. I really loved Faramir in the books and Sam and Aragorn in both books and movies.

Not sure if it's still..."
I guess favourite characters vary between book and movies due to being able to connect with the character's mind, rather than just relying on someone's portrayal of that. In LotR there is so much going on inside character's minds that it's difficult to take it in solely from the movies. But welcome to the group, good to have you here!
Aww I love them together <3 not "together together", just "together", as in best friends. ;) no shipping here! >.<
Yeah whenever we're talking favorite character anywhere, I say Sam *and* Frodo because you can't have Sam without Frodo. They're two halves of a whole. So everyone thinks I ship them, which I don't. They are my BroTP. Not my OTP.
YES exactly. I just can't see Frodo but no Sam in any way. I still count them together if Frodo was captured by orcs and Sam was searching for him or something. Same thing with Merry and Pippin, even though they were separated, they were thinking of each other the whole time. ;)
I know, they are the happiest "species" or race in Middle-earth. They love partying and are always happy and gosh I love Hobbits so much!!
Really?!?! Where did you get it?? I want one!! Or what's it called? (So I can look it up on Amazon) :D :P
Awesome!!! I am SO getting it!!! Have you ever made Lembas bread? I always see recipes and really want to make it
I also saw a very funny BTS clip!!! I don't know if you've seen it already, but it's called "Orlando sees the light" and I laughed so hard, it is so hilarious!!
Yes, I've made lembas like a million times. They're actually Scotch Eggs, not hobbit hole cookies. I've made only two recipes so far. It's really yummy. Mine never turns out like the picture....
Orlando sees the light, hmm. Don't think I have.
Are you on Howrse, out of curiousity?
I've been on Howrse before, a looong time ago. The nostalgia is coming back to me right now :)Oh I saw Hobbit Hole cookies somewhere else then. They look adorable<3
OH MY GOSH!!!! Okay. I am Horselover4life on the worldwide server. Look me up. And I have an all girl LotR club in my forum... if you're a girl lol. But we're all LotR addicts. You should TOTALLY join!!!!!!!!!!
There is also a horse website that I used to go on called avirtualhorse.com but I'm not sure if you'd want to go on it, but it has really nice animation lol x]
Okay. So, read the rules on my forum page. Then find the topic in the forum that says "Ladies of the ring sign-up." (It's probably down aways.) I told everyone you were coming, so just say you're my friend from goodreads. My username is Horselover4life, my real life name is H.G., and then my nickname in the club is Eruanna, they know me by all those names. Then post in any topic with "Ladies of the Ring:" at the top!JSYK they don't like Bagginshield much so maybe don't talk about it too much - you can mention you ship it if you want to though.
Hello fellow Tolkiendils! My number one favorite character is Aragorn II Elessar, I swooned when I read his poem for the first time. Seeing the movies afterwards didn't help me get over him either. I've also read The Silmarillion, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, The Hobbit, The Children of Hurin, and am resolving to get through the History of Middle-Earth and Unfinished Tales. To be honest, I love most of the characters that Tolkien has created, they are all so noble. Perhaps the one I love the second most is Samwise Gamgee, the loyal friend of Frodo Baggins, who represents what all friendships should be.
Hi everyone! I'm new and my favorite characters are Legolas, Arwen, Eowyn, Merry, Gandalf, Aragorn, and Galadriel, in that order. I still like those who didn't make the list, just not as much.
Hey everyone! If you don't really know me already, I am a current high school senior living in Beijing, China. In the fall I will (most likely) be attending Wellesley College in the Boston area. If any of you live there, and would like to meet up later this year, please send me a message and let me know! I would love to :)
I just finished Children of Húrin and just started The Silmarillion. Túrin is beautiful and i love him.
Im new as well.My favorite characters would have to be gollum, merry, legolas, frodo, the witch king, and maglor. Its interesting seeing everyone's selections. The way all of the characters are portrayed is so qualitive that its hard to choose.
Hello, i'm new here and i hope to have a great time. My favourite book actually is the Silmarillion, call me a rebel xDI'm spanish so my english is't the best
See you!
I am reading The Silmarillion right now, and it is very interesting.Spanish is my favorite subject at school!! Me llamo Maria Gracia. ¿Y tú?
Hello! So far my favorite characters from Lord of the Rings are: Legolas, Gimli, Galadriel, Gandalf, Aragorn, Elrond, and Arwen. If characters from The Hobbit count, then I like Tauriel, Balin, Dwalin, Thorin, Bard, Fili, and Kili.
Hello ! My favorite characters are Eowyn ( she is such a wonderful woman : extremely courageous and powerful ! And I am glad that Tolkien decided to introduce us to such an empowered woman, fighting for what she wants ), Aragorn (for how wise he is ), Sam ( Frodo would have failed without him, and in my opinion he is much more of an hero than any of the other characters ! ) and Faramir (I somehow empathize with him in his relationship with his father) ! :)
Hello! I just joined your group. Looking for for a place to discuss LOTR where the ratio of lovers to haters is likely to be higher :)
Hi! My name is Paige and I am a huge LOTR fan!!!!!!! I like every single character in Lord of the Rings, except, you know, the bad guys:)
Paige wrote: "Hi! My name is Paige and I am a huge LOTR fan!!!!!!! He is one of the deeper, more complex, and more developed characters in the entire novel.
I am a huge Marvel fan too:) I agree with you too, Dylan, Gollum isn't really bad, but he isn't good either. Do you know what I mean?
Hi! I really hope this group is still active - it's so hard to find LOTR groups here! But anyway, my favorite characters are Legolas, Galadriel, Aragorn, and Frodo. :D
305writers_lane wrote: "Hi, I’m new to this group, so I guess I’ll share my introduction here. I read the Hobbit and LOTR when I was in seventh grade. At the time, I only started reading it because my crush liked it (lol)..."Welcome Writer's Lane. I think Sam probably tops most fans' favorites lists (I know he is at the top of mine). And even if Sauron wouldn't be a "good" favorite, Tolkien's villains are just as complex and well-written as his heroes.
Hi everyone,I'm really excited to join this group! Fantasy became one of my favourite genres long after I had already been venturing in classic literature waters, but starting with my initiation into Tolkien's wondrous world, it has remained with me ever since. Caught among writing my own fantasy novel series, work and well, life, I no longer have as much free time to read as I used to--but when I do, fantasy is always on the table!
Looking forward to being a member of this lovely group and sharing views on J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece!
Hi, guys! Hope you're doing well! I just joined the other day! Not too many recent posts tho, I see, so I hope most of you haven't left! Was hoping to join in the chats with you all who share my interest in Tolkien's world! I've always loved the fantasy genre and have been a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings since I was a teen when The Fellowship of the Ring movie came out! I knew about the books before that when I was a younger kid, but had never read them till after the movies were all out, and then I read The Hobbit later on and loved it too! My fav character is Legolas, but I also love Aragorn and Arwen!
