Stephanie (stephieja) | 59 comments I have a Kindle, and I do read books on it (when I can pry it out of my husband's hands), but I still prefer to curl up on the couch with a paperback or hardcover book. Plus I wouldn't want to risk taking the Kindle into the tub with me, which is where I get my best chance at a little peace and quiet. LOL.

Wendy (kayaditi) Kindle. Shocks me to say it and I own thousands of books. I just love knowing how much time left in chapters & the book. Love highlighting and such.

☔️ Stormy Day Reader (rainydayz179) | 67 comments I have a great local bookstore that gives trade credit so between that and the library I get some physical books. But I hate using a book light at night and I miss the dictionary and highlighting features. I have kindle, nook, ibook and BAM apps on my iPad. Everyone gets me bookstore gift cards so I use whichever app goes with the card.

Despite all this there's something about going into a bookstore, library or even a flea market booth with a lot of books that just takes my breath away. It's like a rush of aderneline. If the day comes when technology takes over it will be a real loss.

Oh Rainy Day, I understand that feeling well and couldn't agree more!!!!! There is nothing more exciting than having all those books to browse through. It's like striking gold! lol And I too hope that technology doesn't kill the paper book. It will never be the same.

Vikkram Dewan (vickramediwan) | 3 comments Though like most people I feel a bit nostalgic about the feel, smell and touch of paper; it is far more convenient and cheap to buy and read an e-book. Plus we save trees; which are reasons enough for me to prefer an e-reader.

message 206: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany My Kindle. Though I love books, the feel and smell of them, my kindle just takes up less space and it is more convenient. Saves a few trees too. ;)

message 207: by Jamie Lynn (new)

Jamie Lynn Dougherty | 2 comments Totally prefer reading digitally. I find that I read much quicker.

message 208: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 32 comments Pro paper here. I just love having my personal library. Digital devices aren't fool-proof.

message 209: by Dee (new)

Dee | 10 comments Yes and you lose a lot of books if something happens to your reader. I think I read that you don't actually own the books on those readers anyway, even if you pay for them. That the company who "publishes" them can remove them or if they go out of business you could lose them. Not sure if that's true, but it's a scary thought. As for saving trees, I recycle like crazy in every way and they can use recycled paper, that's fine with me.

Mina Khan (spicebites) | 127 comments Books, unless I'm traveling (that includes a trip to the doctors as well as actual fun trips outside my home city).

message 211: by Kymm (new)

Kymm | 1 comments I love reading with my kindle, but I have to. I will read from a book. I'm a techie at heart!!!!

message 212: by J. (new)

J. Nelson (jnelsonaviance) | 1 comments I like both, and actually for fiction prefer audiobook. I'm in a graduate program and have a ton of stuff to read. For that I use my iPad for a lot of articles and the Kindle program for some books, but I like to take notes in margins and the underlining and notes functions on Kindle aren't very good. Still, keeps me from having to haul a ton of paper or books around. However, I also like the new book smell and holding a book in my hands.

message 213: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Rehnay (JRehnay) | 10 comments I think I will always prefer the look (and smell!!) of physical books, but I am extremely fond of my Kindle and its versatility.

message 214: by han⚢ (new)

han⚢ I like the feel of having a heavy book rested in my hands while I read and I love the smell of books. Is that odd? I own a Kindle, but I hardly ever use it. My friends use it more than I do :)

message 215: by Brittney (new)

Brittney (BrittneyM) | 35 comments I admit that it might be convenient to read on a kindle, but I prefer to be able to hold a book in my hand. lol maybe I'm weird but even the smell of a good book in my hands! :-)

message 216: by Johnnie-Marie (new)

Johnnie-Marie Howard (jmhoward2011) | 19 comments I read from both and enjoy both although I still really like having a book book....its just something about turning the pages as to hitting a button or tapping the screen

Brittney (BrittneyM) | 35 comments Johnnie-Marie wrote: "I read from both and enjoy both although I still really like having a book book....its just something about turning the pages as to hitting a button or tapping the screen"

Right!! and I like the fact that I have my very own small library

message 218: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 81 comments Far prefer a physical book. I will read on my Sony but only if I am going to be away for more than a couple of days (rarely though that happens)

But, for me, nothing (nothing!) beats the excitement of receiving that highly anticipated book in the mail.... opening the package... running your hands over the cover....having a quick sneak peak inside...tingling with joy... then finally getting to curl up to savor and read...Bliss!

Neither can you compare, IMO, clicking through online blurbs for downloads with visiting a library, a bookstore, or a booksale and discovering those authors that are now bound to become favourites, or spotting those covers that draw you in so that you just HAVE to read the blurb and put yet another read in your basket/bag.

Sorry, but the experience of 1-click may be convenient (and super fast), but it is just simply not the same.

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 102 comments I actually read on my smart phone using a kindle app quite a bit. I never use my kindle now.
I like that it has a light for nighttime reading in bed.
And of course I love reading from a real book. I like them about 50/50. The phone is so convenient.

I've answered this before (I totally prefer books) but, well, we are all getting older. . . I have arthritis in my hands and wrists, and sometimes even a paperback weights more than I can stand, especially one of those big 400+ page jobbers. And, well, I quilt and knit, and frankly would prefer to be able to KEEP ON doing those. So I need to stave off the crippling effects of arthritis as long as possible. (Altho on a positive note, they now have surgeries to help repair the damage done on hands because of arthritis--but it has to be MUCH worse than mine is to have your insurance cover it.)

Still, there are certain books that I just have to have,/I> it as a book. They are usually books that are part of a series (or author) that I collect.

Well, it's 3:19 am here, and I'm going to go try, yet again, to get some sleep.

But let's all give ourselves a little pat, no matter if we prefer our books, Kindle, Nook or other e-reader. Long live the "printed" word, in whatever form it takes.

message 221: by Erica (new)

Erica (gypsysgem) | 19 comments Books for sure. E readers are so cold and dull... books feel warm and cozy

message 222: by Delia (new)

Delia (vanchiere) | 13 comments Book for sure

message 223: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 2 comments Books all the way. I actually like visiting the library and browsing the shelves. It's not wierd that I just love the smell of books is it? lol

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 2659 comments Mod
Hannah--that question is just too silly for words. Especially in THIS crowd. It just means that you fit in with all of us. :o) Even the Kindle/Nook/e-reader group loves their books. It's just, well, for some of us that e-reader in whatever form is something we use for our own ease and comfort. (And, when I go to visit my Mum's family, so that I have something to READ without having to pack an entire suitcase full of books. I'm not saying that the library in the town that my Aunts and Uncles live in is small, but, well, I own at least twice, maybe three times as many book books as the library does. And on more subjects.)

message 225: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (misslady022) Books for me. They can't go dead on you.

message 226: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Samson (justchloe) | 1 comments kindle on my smart phone always, it goes where I go, can read anywhere and anytime, lol even when I shouldn't be.

message 227: by Irina (new)

Irina Argo (hathor78) | 66 comments I must have a book with me, 24/7, so I bought a NOOK ...mistake, should have had a kindle. Now I have a tablet and can carry it in my purse. I still prefer holding a paperback in my hands, but w ith a tablet I never feel desperate. I donate my books to the library except for my 'can't live without and must read at least once a year and say, "Hello Jo-an, we've missed you....as I have them".....Tolkein Trilogy, The Little Prince, Stella Luna, Johnathan Livingston Sea Gull. ANYONE who has not read The Little Prince will never understand themselves....very short read, but after a hundred times, I still learn something new about myself ....if you decide

message 228: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Kenney (jennyakenney) | 38 comments Love my Kindle. Not only can I take it everywhere without handling big bulky hard covers or paper backs...I can get new books instantly, and there are so many low cost and free options.

Before I got my Kindle I thought I would hate it, that the feel of the books was part of the experience. Now I get annoyed with ink and paper cuts on my hands when I dig out an old favorite.

Have actually debated Re-buying some of my more common re-reads on the kindle...

message 229: by Irina (new)

Irina Argo (hathor78) | 66 comments ooops...what happened? truncated? If you decide to read to read The Little Prince, pay attention to the color of the the wheat fields.....if this does not touch your heart, then I am very sorry that you do not have any friends......you can even get it on-line without buying it ...You have to close a lot of ads, but the book is there.....

message 230: by Mika (new)

Mika (mika_bull) | 13 comments I enjoy reading a physical book, but the Kindle is just so much more convenient. I bring my Kindle everywhere. It's so convenient. I don't have to worry about a paperback getting destroyed in my purse. Also, if I decide I want to read something else my whole library is on my Kindle. It's also better if I read at night b/c I don't have to leave the light on and keep the BF up if I want to read. I guess a downfall is the Kindle battery could die, but I ALWAYS make sure it's charged. I can't be w/o a book :/

message 231: by J.C. (new)

J.C. Mells I ONLY read on my Kindle now. My friend lent me a *real* book and I was unable to finish it. of course, that had a lot to do with the fact my eye sight is not what it used to be and I have been spoiled with the backlit screen. I wasn't able to finish the book because I couldn't see it!

message 232: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 32 comments I have to have real books. I am clumsy and would ruin a gadget. Never wanted one will never get one. Plus you can't get a gadget signed.

message 233: by Margarita (new)

Margarita Gakis (margarita_gakis) | 24 comments The only thing I don't like about my kindle is that it tells me how far I am in % instead of pages. and then when I'm reading a non-fiction book and it says "On page 143 you can see examples of this" and I'm like "Have I read past that page already? am I close to it?"

and then I don't find flipping back and forth to pages I want to re-read or reference as easy. But other than that, I'm 100% kindle.

I'm assuming that's some kind of lizard or large insect? Or were you asking about the vampire book/cover that was the next picture?

message 241: by Irina (new)

Irina Argo (hathor78) | 66 comments nope... IT IS SOME KIND OF LIZARD... your mission, should you chose to accept it is to identify it!

Ann aka Iftcan wrote: "I'm assuming that's some kind of lizard or large insect? Or were you asking about the vampire book/cover that was the next picture?"no

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) My regular read is a physical book, but when I am traveling or driving somewhere, I take my Kobo. It sure does come in handy while you're waiting in line at the grocery store or at the movies!

message 243: by Julie (new)

Julie Blankenship (jblanken) | 12 comments I'm really tired of this question, what does it matter how you read as long as you enjoy reading...
