That sounds like a plan Tanya. Feel free to make a Read-A-Thon threa din the books section, encourage others with weekend time to join in (like the lovely Jimi-carol :D)

Maybe one every month or two, so other people who may wish to join in but can't at that specific weekend can come up with another date where people are happy to do it with them :)

Tanya (totallyshelfaware) | 20 comments Sure, I'll do that. :)
Thanks, Hayley!

Jimi-carol: I thought so, too. :) How does the end of August sound?

A read a thon thread is such a good idea! I love doing those. If you're on twitter we can do a hash tag if you want. :)

message 54: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (totallyshelfaware) | 20 comments Sure! I'm not on Twitter, but that can be easily fixed. :)

Jimi-carol Benton | 39 comments The end of aug. works great for me! I'll just be finishing up college classes and that sounds like the perfect way to end the month. I'll keep an eye out for the read-a-thon thread :D

So for September's Theme Read I was thinking about Tanya's 'Revisiting Authors' theme that can also tie in with Darcy's 'Sequel/next book in the series' theme?

Are people okay with that? Is it okay for them to be together or would you prefer them as separate month themes?

December's may be 'Cozy Mysteries'. However,as there seems to be different takes on what is considered a cozy it shall be down to the reader's discretion ;)

message 57: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) I reckon putting those two themes together for next month isn't a problem. They really are similar, and if a particular author isn't known for writing series, it's a good way to still get a good author in :)

message 58: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 491 comments Mod
Thanks Darcy, I did think they might be a bit similar for separate months - but then that's just my opinion and others may have had different ones :)

Jimi-carol Benton | 39 comments Works for me!

Thank you Jimi-carol, that's good to know :D

I was thinking of something a bit more traditional for October - Gothic fiction :D (though I'm stopping myself from going back to Dracula & Frankenstein because that's not the point of theme reads ;_;)

message 61: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (totallyshelfaware) | 20 comments Makes sense to club the two, I'm all for it! And Gothic fiction or, well, anything spooky really, for October's theme read is perfect. :)

Thank you Tanya - I'm glad you like the sound of it :)

Just November's for folks to decide upon now :D

Catherine | 0 comments If anybody is stuck for a Gothic read, I just read Horace Walpole's Castle of Otranto. It was both fun and quick.

message 64: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (flutterby32) | 54 comments What about Inspirational for November? It could be any book that is suppose to make you feel good or just be a fun, happy story.

message 65: by Denise (new)

Denise (dulcinea3) | 307 comments I guess I'm getting a bit of a start on next month, because I just started reading the next book in a series (for me, anyway; I'm a bit behind) that I haven't been reading for some years - Stephanie Barron's Jane Austen mystery series. I have had the 5th and 6th books on my TBR shelf for a few years now. She's going to be visiting at the B&N mystery forum next month. I thought it was this month; guess if I had checked first, I could have put these off for next month's theme. But I have some others I can read for that, too. I thought I had completed my Ngaio Marsh mystery collection many years back, but realized last year that I was missing two, and managed to acquire one of them. I'll probably read that.

I would love to read The Castle of Otranto someday, but am trying not to buy any new books (and then it wouldn't be dusty, anyway), but I should be able to come up with a book of ghost stories for October. That will have to be Gothic enough!

Well DEnise, that's just a bit psychic of you ;) Glad to hear you'll be ahead on this challenge though :D

Amanda, that's a good idea - I shall put that in with the others and see what ends up being chosen/voted upon for that month :)

Okay so November's is either Obscure Books, Books from the decade you were born in or Inspirational books (Uplifting, feel good, fun and/or happy reads)...
People's thoughts on these would be gretaly appreciated but most of my weekend will be spent curled up with a book for the Read A Thon ;D

message 68: by Jimi-carol (new)

Jimi-carol Benton | 39 comments My vote is for book from the decade you were born in. That seems like a fun theme

message 69: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) Either Obscure Books or Books from decade you are from works for me. I'm not sure if a book would inspire me until I've read it...unless this is a category I'm unfamiliar with - is there a way of telling before hand?
(I ask that in seriousness - I've tried to word that question a few different ways and it always seems to come off as condescending, it's not meant to be)

I shall figure out how to put up a poll for these selections. Darcy, maybe tehre are certain books that are labelled as being 'Inspirational' such as The Alchemist or Life of Pi? I'm not too sure but I know I was told those ones were :)

message 71: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) Ah. Never even thought about how others might shelve a book. Good thinking Hayley.

message 72: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (totallyshelfaware) | 20 comments Darcy: To me, 'feel-good' books are those that just leave me feeling warm and fuzzy and happy to be human. And then there are those that take it one step further - that make you want to change things - either around you or things about yourself and the way you think.

And it varies for different people. I'd count books like The Little Prince and To Kill a Mockingbird as inspirational - it just depends on your definition. :)

[I looked up lists for you, I hope it helps! Here and here]

So it would appear that I should have waited until December to start my hamish Macbeth books... as they appear to be classed under 'cozy mysteries'... oh well, there are 28/29 of them, I'll just have to save borrowing a few until then ;)

message 74: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 491 comments Mod
Okay folks - I'm not sure how to link it so it shows up with the discussions but the poll for November's theme read is up... if you scroll to the bottom of the DB home page!

Thanks for making the poll! here's the link for anyone that still wants to vote

Thanks Jessica :)

It would appear that 'Books from the decade you were born in' is currently in the lead... Let your thoughts be known and vote for which one you want ;)

I've been searching through (read: rearranging) my bookshelf to get ready for next month's read already :D

message 77: by Hayley (new)

I cannot find a book to fit in with October's theme read :O
I may just keep on with this month's and read more Wyndham and Nesbo ;)

message 78: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 491 comments Mod
With just one votes difference it would seem that Obscure books may win the vote to be next month's theme read!!

The poll will be finished and results announced by 7am GMT Monday 28th - so if you have any reason to want 'books from the decade you were born' or 'inspirational books' to win instead then I suggest you cast your vote ;) (right at the bottom of the Dusty home page).

So it's currently a draw between 'Obscure books' and 'Books from the decade you were born in' - so we could either have a tie break or have next month's them be a choice from either?

I like the idea of choice, choice is good ;D

message 80: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) I'm all for choice. I don't think I have any obscure books that I haven't read. I like the books in the decade you were born in option :)

message 81: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) We got a March theme idea? Maybe "tragedy" for Ides of March or something?
