There is a minor scene with Moriarty in The Empty Hearse, but he doesn't come back; its more of a never-before-seen clip of what may have happened on the rooftop before Sherlock fell.

Irene doesn't come back either, but she does make a very brief appearance in The Sign of Three; its not a part of the plot of the episode or anything though.

And there was a short 30 second clip released for the last episode that introduced Charles Augustus Magnussen. Sherlock said that even after all the murders that he's dealt with, none of them can turn his stomach like Magnussen. I'm assuming from the clip that Mycroft is working with or knows him because he said this to Sherlock: “You go against Magnussen, you’ll find yourself going against me.”

Oh I think I know Irene's brief scene. It's when she's somewhere with the monk. I watched it in YouTube, mini episode called Many Happy Returns.

It's Magnussen who I meant. Some says Magnussen is Sherlock biggest enemy, though Moriarty is more popular. Can wait to know his relationship with Mycroft.

Ya I'm definitely excited to see how Magnussen plays into the plot and such. Always love it when a new villain is introduced.

And Irene's part just came in when Sherlock was searching through his mind palace. It served no importance to the rest of the episode; she was just there briefly and interfered with what Sherlock was actually searching for in his mind. I think she was shown there to show that Sherlock will never forget her; she'll always be a part of him no matter what.

Ok so I'm going to put everything in spoilers, because you know,




(view spoiler)[I've always believed that Moriarty survived. I think of him as an equivalent to Sherlock, the only difference being that Moriarty uses his wisdom for evil rather than good like Sherlock. That being said, I knew that he could've figured out a way to fake his own death since Sherlock did the same.

I think I've figured out how Moriarty faked his death. I haven't read the books, so I have absolutely no idea if any of this is accurate or not. But this thought came across my mind a few days ago and I NEED to share to see if anyone else agrees.

I have a few theories:
1.) Richard Brooke was the key to Moriarty's fake death. Moriarty had Richard Brooke confront Sherlock on the roof during that dreadful scene in Reichenbach Fall. Now I have two ideas on how he continued his plan from here:
A. He told Brooke that there was no bullet in the trigger, thus leading to Brooke actually agreeing to help Moriarty out.
B. He forced Brooke to pull the trigger, even though both men knew there was an actual bullet. Therefore in this case, Brooke would have known that he'd have to die but he had no choice.
Anyways, that would explain how Moriarty, or should I say Brooke, died.
Now here's the big twist: I believe that the face that we've all come to associate with the name Moriarty isn't Moriarty at all, if that makes any sense. From the very beginning (meaning all the times we've seen him), we as the viewers have seen the face of Brooke, not Moriarty. Moriarty hired Brooke to give the name Moriarty a face and all of us, including Sherlock, have been fooled. Therefore, we have no idea what Moriarty looks like or sounds like; he was just a voice/essence hiding behind a fake face the whole entire time. Because of this, he was able to trick everyone into believing he was the one who died, when it was actually Brooke who died in Reichenbach Falls.

2.) This goes along with the first idea regarding Richard Brooke being hired by Moriarty. After googling other theories and such, I've heard that Moriarty had had a twin in the book. So what if Brooke WAS that twin? Sure this would still mean that we know what Moriarty actually looks like (unless they were fraternal twins and didn't look alike), but it would have still been a great plan.

3.) This one has nothing to do with Brooke, but what if Moriarty had other people on the roof to help him fake his death. Maybe there was no bullet in the gun and there was some sort of blood bag behind his head that would have pooled when he fell, causing it to look like he was dead. Then after Sherlock fell, he just walked up and got away? I don't know, I really haven't put much thought into this.

4.) And my last theory involves Sherlock and Moriarty actually working together to pull off both of their fake deaths. Maybe they both contacted each other before the roof scene, maybe their rooftop conversation was planned to trick anyone who might have been eavesdropping, I don't know. I really have put much thought into this either, so as of now I don't see what both would have to gain from this.

Im thinking that the first theory is the most likely out of them all, but I still have doubts.

I love Robert Downey Jr. too, but if I have to choose I prefer BBC version :) and now whenever I see this picture it reminds me of you :D (before you, I never have a friend who is an avid fan of Robert Downey Jr and refuse to watch BBC Sherlock)

So I finally watch season 3 episode 1 last night. I must say (view spoiler)[I didn't quite like "the new" Sherlock. He changed into some kind of superhero character with cocky smile and swagger who likes to flirt. I felt like he wasn't the same Sherlock I used to know. Thank goodness it was mostly in first part of the story, though. And I still enjoyed the movie and love Amanda Abbington as Mary :D (hide spoiler)]

yes omg! I completely agree. it's a popular show and they're always talking about their love for it so they should commit. I love watching movies with those two actors but I think it's fair to make time to make 3 FRICKEN episodes a YEAR.
