Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Now you sound like my mom Carlena. She has fractured, broken, sprained her ankles so many times. And in most cases it has been on flat concrete or in our driveway so she can't sue lol.

message 102: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Lol, same here. Same damn ankle too. It's ridiculous. Hey now! I don't want to sound like anyone's mom, unless she's a cool cat, ya dig?

message 103: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh she is cool enough. And then there are moments she is mother dearest to me. But that's my nice way of calling her the biatch she can turn into and still keep my teeth where they belong.

message 104: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments oh goodness! someone needs a bubble suit lol

message 105: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments No kidding, this last time she snapped all the way up behind her knee. And she has a metal plate and 6 screws in the right ankle. Definitely not something she is loving at all.

message 106: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Lol. Don't we all need bubble suits though?

message 107: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Ouch ouch ouch. Sorry for your mom. That stinks. My mom is having knee issues. Had to have surgery. And I had to help her the whole time. She hated it cause she is very independent.

message 108: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Does the bubble wrap in packages count? Less suffocating that way me thinks.

message 109: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments I would say so, just make sure you double layer. Not to much so she can still walk without looking like an injured penguin

message 110: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh well she likes those motorized carts in the store already. So being wrapped up be even great excuse for her to use them. Even though she can't drive them for crap either lol

message 111: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Lol. I go to the store late at night just to drive them. (Don't want to take away from others who actually need them, I hate it when people do that. Happened to my dad a lot and he was bad sick)

message 112: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Ok, I want to see the bubblewrap job on somoene at the store. That would just crack me up! I can't talk either; i took a self defense class and tore my ACL. Just had the suregery to correct beginning of May. My BFF has tripped UP the stairs several times. we are all like that sometimes. Feel batter Carlena!!

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments my best talent so far: PROCRASTINATION. I am really good in it. :P

Carlena | 1753 comments If anyone would like to custom order earrings, I will accept a check, money order (preferably postal), or cash. All earrings are $10 a pair and if shipping is needed, $4 for s/h. $1 for each additional pair on the shipping. All the profits are going towards medical bills, food, and everyday expenses while I battle Hodgkin's Lymophoma. Please don't feel obligated. I just thought this may be a good place to mention it. I love you all!

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I found another skill I have... I can - and I am very, very good at it - ignore my household chores and read all day. LOLOLOLOLOLOL

message 118: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Hahaha good skill to have. I'm sure it comes in handy when you want lots of reading done.

message 119: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I guess that's why I finished the SSB challenge in the first month. I am reading now a book that wasn't chosen and then I have a few more library books flying around that need to be returned. I just happened to have those NS books I really wanted to read (which I did in two days, one for each book). Stuff the dishes.

message 120: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Dratz and here I thought that was my special hobby/skill. Ah well I think it's universal lol.

Do you have pictures available, Carlena? I'm interested in buying for Xmas.

Carlena | 1753 comments I make earrings! (and sell them too) my moms coworkers are my biggest customers. Lol

message 124: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments For everyone on pg 1 scared to cook, you just need to find the right recipes to start. Start with something simple (boxed cake mix? favorite cookie recipe?) and expand from there.

Find a reliable cookbook, chef, favorite cooking show etc and just start playing. Feel free to make notations on any recipes you print out to note how your oven/stove/pans seem to differ from what the recipe states. (I've got a brussel sprout recipe that pretty much needs to be in a pyrex pan vs a cookie sheet, but the recipe never said what kind of pan to use.)

Cooking is chemistry, but with food.

(Do note, I'm not a chef, I'm capable of cooking if following a recipe, although I avoid certain types of food/ingredients as they're too fiddly - anything with yeast, browned butter, caramel, pie crust etc.)

message 125: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I don't mind going by the way of recipes. I just suck at the from scratch stuff. My fam is big on a "pinch" of that or a "handful" of this. Sort of measurements and it screws with my head all the time or some of my fave stuff I grew up with. Aside from that, touching any kind of raw meat is just super gross to me. Even though I do love eating it(when cooked that is), lol.

message 126: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments Some of our recipes are like that. Basically what I learned to do with spaghetti for example is a "lidful" of each spice listed. So if you went and measured how much is in a "lidful" or a "pinch" you can correlate it to a 1/8 tsp. tbsp. or whatever.

So if you think a "pinch" of salt is 1/2 tsp. and when you taste it you're puckering, next time you make it, try 1/4 tsp. or 1/8th instead. You can always add more, but taking out is difficult/impossible.

message 127: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Good call on that. Will definitely keep it in mind.

message 128: by Adam (new)

Adam (doward) | 165 comments I spent 4 years in the RAF as a close quarters combat instructor, I've got black belts in judo and karate. I trained to be a stunt performer and can use swords, knives, longbows, quarterstaffs and a few other things. I can also skydive, which is pretty sweet lol

message 129: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Daaaaaaaaang, Adam! Now I know who to hire as a badass bodyguard if I ever go somewhere extremely dangerous! XD

Seriously, though, that's very cool. =) Myself, I'm too challenged when it comes to coordination, so I couldn't even begin to do any of that stuff. XD

message 130: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Holy schnikes!! That is awesome Adam. Way to go dude. *high five*. What inspired you to get into so much of all that?

I'm in the same boat as Charlotte on that one. I trip over my own two feet even, haha.

message 131: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments Very cool, Adam!

I'm a romance writer, which some of you know. I have a talent most authors have, in that I can get so caught up in the story world in my head I almost get myself killed in the real world. I've nearly been run over by those carts in the airport more times than I can count when I'm on my way home from writing conferences, because I'm working out a plot problem in my head.

I can also read backwards and upside down almost as fast as I can the right way up.

I can also taste even the slightest hint of coffee in my chocolate, and it ruins the chocolate. Drives my dad nuts because he disagrees with me.

message 132: by Adam (last edited Nov 15, 2015 01:14PM) (new)

Adam (doward) | 165 comments I did judo and karate as a child and just stuck at it, being in the RAF was something I always wanted to do and it just so happened I knew the man in charge of pilot training and they needed a combat instructor that was proficient in all sort that I just happened to be able to do lol the swords and stuff, well the gods honest truth is, I'm a massive nerd and wanted to learn how to sword fight and shoot a bow I can also use about 30 different firearms lol

message 133: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Sweet. I did a bit of karate myself when I was younger. Got up to a yellow belt but didn't stick with it. School and other extracurriculars cropped up. But truly that is great Adam. Nothing wrong with getting your nerd on. Leads to some awesome skills and no doubt even better stories most times. ;)

Oh so that means you can unscramble words pretty quickly too or no?

Oh nice. Sounds like you have a pretty sensitive palette there. Can you do it for any particular chocolate? Like certain brands? Or just for dark chocolate varieties versus white chocolates?

message 135: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments I can taste coffee in ANY kind of chocolate. And I'm very particular about brands. I don't like cheap chocolate, and won't touch a Hershey bar unless it's in a smore. I actually don't like white chocolate, because it's not actually chocolate. It's what's left over all the chocolate liquor has been removed. The liquor is where the flavor comes from. Take that out and all you have is cocoa butter.

Sometimes I can unscramble words pretty fast.

Ooooh my bad. I think I was reading the coffee and chocolate thing as in a chocolate and coffee hybrid sort of candy. Instead of coffee being mixed into the chocolate to become like a candy bar or well a finished product in general?

And I'm a fan of the Hershey's cheap stuff all day long. That fancy stuff is a) too expensive for my wallet and b) me and truffles have had bad experiences and my taste buds still have not fully thanked me for that experience, haha.

Yep, I've been known to trip over my own two feet, too. And laundry hampers, child gates, footstools ... XD

message 138: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments Coffee is a popular additive for chocolate, and I hate it. There are even places that do a coffee-chocolate liqueur in a chocolate martini. So gross.

No kidding? Learning something new everyday. Not a drinker, but I have heard of that martini before, I believe on the Food Network or something. It's amazing all the things they will mix up and sell these days.

Add some stairs in there and we are definitely in the same boat Charlotte lol.

message 141: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments I don't like coffee in any form, so when you put it in my chocolate I am NOT a happy chocoholic. I call myself a purist. Don't even like nuts or fillings, for the most part. Except for Reese's. Anyone who doesn't like a Reese's isn't quite right in the head, lol.

message 142: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I hear ya Rachel. I've only ever gotten into coffee is when it's offered with many syrups and something to make it NOT taste like coffee. And I gotta admit I've tried chocolate without anything in it and it'sgood. I just like a nut in mine. So I'm a total Hershey's milk chocolate with almonds girl all the way. And I'm with you about the Reese's. I'm not a fan of other peanut butter and chocolate combos that aren't buckeyes. Cause to use the creamy peanut butter with chocolate sometimes just doesn't blend right or they have the wrong chocolate going with the wrong peanut butter and just ew.

message 143: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments I like (some) coffee in my chocolate depending on the recipe. I've got a mocha truffle recipe that is really yummy. I'm not really a coffee person though.

Reeses are gross. Peanut butter in chocolate is gross. Peanuts (occasionally) in chocolate are ok. Go figure that one out.

Hersheys chocolate is too sweet for me. It's not chocolatey enough.

When it comes to "real" chocolates though...Bernard Calibeaut *drools*. Super expensive, but worth it when you only get to Canada once every 5 years for it. You *can* order it in the states, but it doesn't taste right. Although they appear to change up their varieties. They took away the white chocolate bear (I don't *think* it had orange cream inside, I just recall white yummy filling), but now have salted caramel (dark and milk).

message 144: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments That is something on you not liking the Reeses but like the whole nuts in your chocolate Myst. I only like almonds and peanuts in my chocolate. But although I could eat you out of house and home over some cashews. I can't stand them being coated in chocolate. Just doesn't taste right.

That is interesting you don't find Hershey's chocolatey enough. What do you think about Dove? Or Anthony's? I'm not too fond of Dove. That dark chocolate just coats my tongue in a really bad way. And although Anthony's is good. I'm not wild about the fruit flavored fillings. Especially any raspberry or orange creams. Gross.

Oooh, I love a good salted caramel. I thought I wouldn't at first given the fact I thought it would be saltier. But actually had it in some Haagan Daz ice cream and it surprisingly lightened up the caramel a lot. And made it beautiful tasting.

message 145: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments Dove chocolate is ok. Not something I'd pay top dollar for though. Never heard of Anthonys. I do like the truffles whose brand I can't recall atm. They come individually wrapped in a bag at the grocery store. There's a black bag, red, blue, green...Lindor Lindt whatever.

Salted caramel for what little I've had of it (it's a fad...I try to stay away from fads) can be hit or miss. There's a Talenti gelato salted caramel ice cream which is too rich. But salted caramels are usually pretty good.

message 146: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I enjoy the little messages in the wrappers from Dove. But yea, I'm not really a fan of it either. Although could be because I've always ended up on the dark chocolate end of trying them. And me and dark chocolate never got along. Oh oops, Anthony Thomas. Forgot to use the full name. They sell it so much here I just call it Anthony's. I've tried Lindt before. And had bad experiences with it. Could be how long the store had it or something. But the ones I had in a red bag were super oily in the wrapper.

True at Fad. Cause I'm sure they are like we've had caramel do a few different things. But not like there is a whole lot one can do with it like chocolate and other candies. Really? I've had two Talenti flavors before. Having a bit of a brand fart and can't recall the names of either at the moment. Oh wait, one is coming back to me Tahitian Vanilla Bean and I think the other one was a caramel somebody or other. But yea, I actually felt both of those were uber rich. But in a good way. But not so good to go back too soon just yet lol.

message 147: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments Still never heard of Anthony's. It must be a local thing.

My favorite Talenti is the caramel cookie bits one. I ate the entire (small) container yesterday...oops lol.

And talk about fads...pumpkin spice everything in the fall >.<

message 148: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Could be. Like the buckeye candies.

Ya, know I think that might be the other one I tried! So great minds and all that. ;)

Oh my goodness yes! No offense to the pumpkin lovers out there. But the pumpkin spice annoy the ever living daylights out of me. From coffee to M&M's. Even more silly was when Star Bucks had a special code for folks to use to order it. Which is just crazy.

message 149: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments Whats crazy is the starbucks pumpkin spice drink didn't even have pumpkin in it...it was ALL artificial chemicals.

Apparently they reformulated the drink this year to use real pumpkin something in it instead of artificial flavoring. I'm still never going to order it :-P

Does anyone *really* need pumpkin spice flavored bath gel, shampoo ice cream or noodle mixes? Why not just eat a pumpkin pie and be happy about it!

message 150: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I can believe it. I guess they figure using the artificial stuff would go faster. But yea sometimes real deal or close enough to it is far better an option.

I totally agree! What is funny though out of all this pumpkin spice stuff going on, I have YET to catch anybody with a slice of the actual pie! If they did have a slice it had to be the most well kept secret ever.
