Is there a rule against this? I was unaware and know other librarians who are as well. And does it just apply to single-author works and not compilations?
And does it just apply to single-author works and not compilations? Yes. The roles of an editor in these two different situations are completely different. On an anthology or book of essays or short stories or whatever, the editor often chooses the material for the anthology, perhaps commissions it, and writes an introduction. If a single-author work has an editor, it's someone at the publishing house who worked with the author to hone the book, make corrections, ask for revisions, etc. This second type of editor is considered behind the scenes, and his/her name wouldn't be on the book or in the book, unless the author was thanking him/her on an acknowledgments page.

Ohhh, I got it. Thank you. This book looks like it is published by the author, under the author's publishing brand. I would guess Lisa was a freelance editor--therefore behind the scenes, even if her name is inside the book?

*Please note that editors should only be added for records like anthologies and reference materials. Novels and other works of fiction should not have editors listed.

What about editors of classics? I'm thinking of academics who have assured that a text is authoritative, as for many Penguin Classics editions for example.
Usually they would not be included as a secondary author. However they could be mentioned in the description for that edition.
We have made exceptions and added editors in cases when they have written additional text (appendices and so on) as well as editing.

"Please help"Hello I just added a book "Forged" I am the author.
ASIN number is B00FLXIXVE
the link is http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...
The author is listed as MJ Fields
apparently my profile is M.J. Fields
I would love someone to fix this.
Thanks so much
M.J. Fields
It gets confusing when a thread linked to a specific book is also used for other books. I am closing this thread. Start new ones for other books.

I got this book added just fine, however I'm somehow listed as an author when I was an editor. I tried correcting the info but it didn't take. Could someone make that edit for me, please?
Many thanks!
Lisa
