This book will be discussed at our May 3rd meeting. I've heard it is both sad and funny and am personally looking forward to experiencing it.

Post any comments you have on the book below (especially if you can't make the discussion).

Here is a brief author interview from NPR to get your geared up.

Happy Reading!

I just finished chapter 1. So far this is hilarious. Good narration, witty dialogue.

these characters are almost too adorable...

Nicole | 4 comments I wish I had been as cool as the characters in high school. Oh hell, I wish I was as cool as them now.

I couldn't put the book down - great choice!

Michelle (michelletm) The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves. Happy Ides of March, yo.

Mfb | 1 comments "The Fault In Our Stars" is one of the best books I have read by far. The use of pathos was extraordinary and I became so attached to the characters. By the end of the book, I forgot that they were fictional and it made me even sadder to comprehend.

Md | 1 comments I think it's great how John Green balances tragedy and comedy is such a way that the aspects of the emotional roller coaster the book takes you on never get forgotten.

message 10: by Ecs (new)

Ecs | 1 comments Ryan, I agree that there was some witty dialogue in the beginning. Hazel is quite a character. I immediatly connected and became attatched to both her and August. John Green did an excelent job in forming these characters. The tragedy they undergo really touched my heart.

Plenty of great lines in this book. This might be my favorite:

"when the scientists of the future show up at my house with robot eyes and they tell me to try them on, I will tell the scientists to screw off, because I do not want to see a world without him."

LuAnn | 61 comments HEY! Big step for lu, I'm going with fancy man to NY for his brother's wedding May 1-5. You can most certainly plan to meet as scheduled on May 3rd if you would like, but if it's not too much of an inconvenience, would it be possible to reschedule for the following Friday, May 10th?

works for me.

Katie (katieeagan) | 7 comments That date works for us. last book club for us before Florida! Also does this mean postponing the grand opening?

LuAnn | 61 comments Yes, the soonest it looks as though we can open at this point is Saturday, May 18th and even that's optimistic. :(

haha, it was indeed Amsterdam. Back to your previous comment...I'm glad you liked the book. I was a bit hesitant since I knew it was about death, but it turned out to be worth it.

Lisa (lisak924) | 13 comments I can't wait to read this book. Still trying to finish Brain on Fire before Friday.

Kevin (kevineagan) | 11 comments I still haven't finished the book, so I haven't read this article, but it looks good: http://www.themillions.com/2013/02/wh...

that article was fantastic. Nailed it.

LuAnn | 61 comments Read it in one sitting...with a pathetically sick toddler in my lap.

I cried, but probably not for the same reasons most do. Looking forward to our discussion!
