Thanks for this! Swordspoint was already on my TBR list. Maybe I'll actually get to it if I get the audio?
And The Third Policeman looks interesting!

Having finished Winter Kill yesterday, I'm at a loss as to what to listen to next! I'm debating another JCP book (not Psycop) narrated by Gomez as well, and another Josh book not narrated by Gomez. lol.
When in reality, I just want more Winter Kill with Gomez! I loved this the second time around in audio even more than I did the first time. :-D

If you haven't read or listened to Swordspoint yet, you're in for a treat. Such a wonderful story.

Swordpoint's cool. I remember really liking it. The sequel looks neat.

Jordan, you are making me want to listen to that...! I loved the book and I've been toying with getting the audio just because I know Pugh will do an amazing job w/those characters.
I'm listening to Against the Grain - fantastic. I finished Try and it ended up having a pretty decent story (once you wade through all the sex). The narrator cracked me up though, he really got into it.

I liked Against the Grain enough, but it wasn't nearly as good as the others.
Yeah, Winter Kill was soooo worth it! I think I'll be relistening to it again very soon. The ending: perfect. It made me all gooey inside. Did I mention this made me want a sequel? Yeah. It did. I need more of Rob and Adam.
I ended up picturing a likeness of that guy from Criminal Minds as Adam, and I don't even watch that show. lol.

I'm listening to A Casual Weekend Thing by A.J. Thomas and I'm having hard time with the narrator. I'm 5 chapters into the story and I'm about to give up. And this is something that rarely happens to me — I usually can live with some of the narrators that other people seem to hate.

Just checked out the reviews for this and it looks like you're not the only one who couldn't stand the narrator.
I apparently put this on my TBR list awhile back, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Well, I think it's sort of a relief to hear that I'm not the only one struggling with this. Thank you for letting me know.

I have listened to a sample and I know exactly why you struggle. This one is certainly not made for me :-).

I think I'll enjoy it more as an audiobook, since I found the phonetic rendering of Darian's Essex accent distracting to read. Having read many more of Alexis Hall's books since (and loved them) I'm looking forward to this audiobook!
Oh my God. I glanced at the reviews for Mexican Heat on Audible and...holy moly.
I wish there was a way to warn people that I had nothing to do with that production. NOTHING. I didn't even know Laura had put it up on Audible.
That is just embarrassing. One of the review headers actually said something like JOSH, WHAT HAPPENED?
Uh.... I could take a guess at what happened but that would be neither kind nor professional.

Don't you own any part of the audio rights? I'm thinking that you could maybe get it pulled, if it's that bad.

Oh dear. Step away from those reviews RIGHT NOW! ;-)
Well, if it's any consolation, I think anyone who has been listening to your audio books and following your process of carefully choosing all the narrators, will realize that you didn't have anything to do with this one. You invest so much time and money to make the listening experience as perfect as possible for your readers.
All your wonderful audio books speak for themselves — and for you. No worries there, dear.

oh I want to listen to that - let us know how you like it.

I love his books too... I had the audio version of For Real but Riptide Pub actually pulled it since they said they didn't think it was done well and are re-doing it. (It was an amazing story so they owe us a well done audio.)
I've heard people love the Audible version of Glitterland, that was such a great story - Ash broke my heart.

I'm actually reading that book right now... glad I didn't opt for the audio version. I'm so sorry about that Josh.

I feel so detached from that project that I don't really consider it even my work really, so I had no problem reading the reviews...until I realized that other people consider it my work. :-D :-D :-D

I kind of loved that book when I read it in my "early Josh" days. : ) I have to admit devoting a lot of thought to trying to guess which parts each of you wrote. The audio reviews are disappointing, but the story is still highly rated. And yes, it's sad that readers/listeners believe you were responsible for a choice you had nothing to do with.

If you part-own the rights surely your consent was required before the audiobook was put on sale, let alone before it was produced. It's clear from the reviews that your reputation is suffering because of the sub-standard production.
Obviously it depends on what law governs your contract and what it says, but there must be a possibility that you could ask that sale of the audiobook be suspended, and the production errors be corrected, at the very least. And of course you're almost certainly entitled to a share of the profits!

Yeah, maybe you should consider doing what HJ suggests. Or at the very least to contact Laura and ask her to do something about it?
In any case, the book (also the audio book!) interests readers because it has your name on it. In other words it's selling mainly because of you.

I find it interesting that to those reviewers, Laura doesn't seem to have had anything to do with this book, even though her name is there as author. That also says something right there. No one is asking HER what happened, even though it was all her and no Josh. No one realizes that, because there is nothing to state that anywhere.
I listened to the audio sample, and yeah, I can see he's not the best choice. The background music doesn't fit the story, nor does his voice fit for the Latino/Spanish characters.

Part of the problem there is the original idea was Laura's and I pushed my way into that project and have always felt guilty for it because it turned the book into something Laura had not anticipated. And then of course I didn't want to go through that again, so we had started a series that I no longer wanted to be part of. ETC. So I continue to let the situation ride.
I could always review the book and my subject header could be JOSH LANYON IS NOT TO BLAME. :-D

Well, that was something I, too, was thinking earlier — Would it help if a few of us would write reviews of the audio book and mention in them, that we've heard that you haven't been involved in making the audio version?

Talking about publishing houses messing around behind the back of authors: Alexis Hall didn't have a say in the disastrous first version of For Real. He was quite upset back then, but he said I should inform you folks on the matter only if the subject arose, probably because he was hoping to solve the problem with Riptide.

I have the audiobook too, because I will always buy books and audiobooks with your name on it. I haven't listen to it, because I know your part of the book is not so big. I can also write something too, but perhaps only on the German audible page.

Yeah, it turns out that you can only review the audio book on the Audible site where you've purchased the book from. For me it happens to be Audible.co.uk. Anyway, I'll write a short review tonight and we'll see if it turns up also on Audible.com. Hmmm.

Can you send me your review? Then I have an idea, how to make clear, that Josh has nothing to do with the missing quality. Or can I write it simplistic like that?

I think simple and clear is perfect for this. :-) Although, feel free to copy mine, if it helps!
ETA: I think my review now shows on Audible. And here's a thought — If enough people like the reviews saying that Josh wasn't involved in the audio production, those reviews will appear on the top of the review list, right? So, let's push the like buttons, shall we?

Well, I did buy it. Before the reviews and hoping the narration improved past the sample. And, yes, I wouldn't have bought it except that the original book was a Josh collaboration and I enjoyed it when I read it. So maybe I can help out too…
On second thought, I just read Johanna's review, which is perfect, and liked it. That means it is the top review right now, so hopefully others will read it and be forewarned.

I didn't buy the audio, but since I bought the Ebook and never rated it on Amazon, I took the opportunity to talk about both in the review. Even though it's not on audible, maybe it'll still help. Also, I'll like Johanna's review too, if I can!

I did that too. Fortunately I was able to log in with my audible.de account.
