For those who love podcasts, NPR started a great website curating the best podcast episodes (they are not all NPR podcasts). Looks wonderful - I can't wait to check them out. Some I recognize but a lot of them are new to me.http://earbud.fm/
I've been enjoying the NPR "First Listen" of Alessia Cara's new album, Know it All:http://www.npr.org/2015/11/05/4543162...
Her song "Here" -- an "anthem for introverts" --perfectly describes me during my college years before I stopped forcing myself to go to parties. :D
Here - Lyric version

I also really like the 2am version on the album.
"Wild Things" - Alessia Cara

Also, Chris Isaak has a new album coming out - I just started to listen to it. I can't believe he is 59 - whut?!

Shallow thought of the day - Everyone's been talking about Adele's flip phone(!) so I finally watched the video, but I think the guy is so cute! And she looks gorgeous, too. ;-)Hello

Can't wait for the album. :-)
Not my usual thing but I love The Weeknd's new album. Guilty pleasure, maybe?

I'll stop now. ;-)
Listening to Hell & High Water for a challenge... it isn't really my first choice of genre, but the narrator is actually really good and he is pulling me in to the story.

Yeah, I had a lot of problems with this series. That being said, I still couldn't put it down once I got started. :-P

Nice. Yeah, the lyrics for Here are great! I see myself too, Valerie. :)

What were your issues? I'd love to know - not sure I'm going to invest in the next in the series but I'm loving Dex and Sloane.
I saw you guys had playlists for some of the books so, I started browsing the playlist for Somebody Killed His Editor. My husband and I are still listening to the audio of that book together. Calathea suggested Miss Marple's Theme. I've been putting together acoustic guitar playlists lately and I ran across this version of that song: Miss Marple´s Theme by Eike Jung
Started listening yesterday to A Vintage Affair from the box set collection (Male/Male Mystery and Suspense Box Set: 6 Novellas). I'm really enjoying the narrator. It's really interesting to see/feel the difference in how narrators approach the story and how that can complement the story.

My problems were that certain things weren't exactly plausible for me, or realistic enough. I know it's kinda a fantasy, but the police procedure had some issues. I don't remember anything specific anymore though, except in the last book I listened to a bar owner shut down his bar for a private party just for the cops because they solved a case. I could see him doing that if they had rented it out, of if they were family and it was a HUGE family party. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure shutting down for a night would actually lose him a lot of money in the real world. *shrugs* A bit minor, but it stuck with me. Oh, also they spent too much time in the hospital or just getting injured, book after book. To be fair, I was able to put a lot of this behind me and still enjoy the stories.
That said, I did just notice that another book in the series was added to audible. I can't afford it right now, but I might get it at some point. It features two of the more minor characters.

Those kinds of things, along w/an unrealistic accounting for the passage of time, are what bugs me the most about reading fiction. It is hard to lose yourself in a story when you keep saying to yourself "wait, what?!?".

Who wrote this one?
Who wrote this one?
Jordan wrote: "I love that you guys listen to these books together. :-)"Reading books out loud to each other was something we started doing shortly after we were married. That way we got to enjoy them together. We couldn't afford to go out to movies or restaurants back then. Reading to each other was a nice way to spend time.
We actually had not done it in awhile. I was reading the Adrien English series and would occasionally make comments about the books to him. One day he said to me, "You have to read me these books." So in the beginning, I was reading the books to him. We were in the third book when I decided to get the audio books and give my voice a rest. I think Chris Patton does a much better Adrien and Jake than I was doing :-)
I have promised him that I won't read ahead in the Holmes & Moriarity Series but, it isn't easy.
Sandy wrote: " I think Chris Patton does a much better Adrien and Jake than I was doing :-)"LOL! But the idea that you read to each other is so nice!
I ran across this when I was browsing guitar music: Sherlock - Classical Guitar Cover. It's a fun version of music from BBC's Sherlock by David Weese and Derek Sena.
Josh, the series is written by Charlie Cochet. I love her imagination. She really has great ideas, which is why I think I can put the annoying stuff behind me and enjoy the stories.
Jordan wrote: "Trioseven7 wrote: "Jordan wrote: "Trioseven7 wrote: "Listening to Hell & High Water for a challenge... it isn't really my first choice of genre, but the narrator is actually really ..."I just completely allowed myself to forget about believability.. And I did purchase that newest one and finished it last night. It's just fun, and I get tired of fact checking and being serious. Great escapism on this series :-D
Finished Hell & High Water and it does have a pretty significant cliff hanger. Now I'm listening to Sticks & Stones... I read the first one so I already have my Zane & Ty so it is an adjustment to listen to the narrator do them, but so far so good. This one is set in West Virginia and the narrator is keeping me laughing with his accents, very well done. Narrator is Sawyer Allerde - does anyone know of him?

I think he reads Fair Game.

Now I'm excited to go back and listen to it. Many of my GR friends have commented on how well he did with that, but (off the record) they have said that J.F. Harding's Elliot is better...). Can't wait to have enough time to go back and listen to both of those books. Thanks for the head's up.

Yes, I got the impression that readers enjoyed Fair Play's narration more than Fair Game.

There are so many good audiobooks on their way that I need to own! I wonder if this will be the year I teach my children the value of small, homemade Christmas presents...

I started Criss Cross this morning as I had a long drive, it is fantastic. The narrator, Gomez Pugh, is great.
Trioseven7 wrote: "I started Criss Cross this morning as I had a long drive, it is fantastic. The narrator, Gomez Pugh, is great."He is! And he did Winter Kill too ;)
oh wow, really? I read Winter Kill when it first came out and loved it, I'll bet he does a great Rob. I could add the narration for just a few dollars... It's really interesting listening to the narrators interpretation after having read the book myself. I just did that with Sticks & Stones - the narrator's Ty is completely different from how I picture him.
I am listening to Dark Horse, White KnightDark Horse, White Knight and just finished the first story. Great job with narration as always.
Alternating between A Vintage Affair (love the narrator from the m/m set) and How to Howl at the Moon. Both awesome.

I haven't been hearing a lot on these last audio books, so that's good to hear. I'm hoping people are just too busy reading and listening.

I just finished listening to this one. Excellent narrating job. I love especially this narrator's Dan — the way he makes Dan solemnly, gravely warm and... solid? I know I can't put it into words very well, but I love the warmth in Dan's voice.
Also, no matter how many times I get back to these two books, they always blow me away again and again. Sean's fragility and honesty with the safe harbor Dan offers always pierce my heart. And the fact that it's not only about menace and safety. And that fragile can sometimes be the stronger one. Aaaanyway, I'm starting to babble. But yeah, I love these.

Those are among the first Josh Lanyon books I read and they still have that special place in my heart. I have the ebooks and the paperback and probably must buy the audio one of these days too :)
Each night next week, starting Monday, BBC Radio 4's «A Book at Bedtime» will be The Truth Is a Cave in the Black Mountains by Neil Gaiman, read by Bill Paterson. You can listen live, or through the web.

I really want to listen to that one, it's one of the few JL books I haven't read yet. I somehow still haven't managed to buy the MM set, maybe because I already own 2 or 3 of them on audio. And there are so many audiobooks I want to buy! I suffer from a "hard to choose" syndrome. Surely the only fix is to buy them all? (my poor visa card)

What has put me off buying those books in audio is the fact that during the course of the series there've been THREE narrators!
I know, that is so weird and off putting - I don't blame you.Thank you, Josh, for Chris Patton, he is wonderful with the Adrien series! He is so droll, I literally laugh out loud (and people give me funny looks at the gym but it's worth it). His Jake is so sexy, way better than when I read it myself.
I have been listening to the M/M Box set. I enjoyed Dark Horse, but kept wondering how the other one sounds. Vintage Affair was good. I took me a little bit to get into the narrator, but by the end I was quite happy with him. I'm now listening to Blood Red Butterfly. I really like this narrator.

I bought it before I bought the MM box set - does anyone know which narrator is better? It says Chris Gebauer does the one from the box set.
