What we're listening to

Sure. Here's what I've learned. Even if I've bought a book somewhere else, it's also worth it for me to purchase it on Amazon as an ebook if it's whispersynced.. For example, book 1 in the Adrien English series is only $3.99 on kindle, and that lets you purchase the audiobook for only $1.99. A great big savings from even the audible discount price of 30% off for audible members.
And until recently, I only paid for the listener light membership on audible for $9.95 per year, as it allowed me to get member rates and take part in the twice annual 40% off sales. The only thing is you don't get credits, so it was only worth it if you stuck to whispersynced titles.
But recently many self-publishers and DSP have been really putting out good audiobooks, so I decided I wanted the membership that allowed me to get credits as well.
Anyway, hope that explained it to you :)

You buy the ebook on amazon, but only if it offers you the audiobook at a discount lower than one credit.
Then you save even more money.
If you have a book from amazon and the price is red on audible, then it's a whispersynced book
(or just a sale)
Until I Live by The National Parks - a new favorite indie folk band. I recommend if you like Mumford & Sons, OMaM, The Head and the Heart, etc. I like their sound a lot and they have some gorgeous videos, too. They even have one filmed in Finland. :)http://thenationalparksmusic.com/listen/

Hey, this is a nice find! Thank you for sharing, Valerie. I've now listened to a few of their songs through the links you posted and I really like them. Their easy-going, soothing sounds seems to be something I needed right now. And yeah, their Helsinki video was definitely shot in Finland and... surprise, surprise.... in Helsinki. :-)
Isn't it lovely finding "new" music?

Thanks. Wasn't sure what whispersynced was, but I didn't want to purchase a shoddy recording.
TWO Josh Audiobooks out tomorrow! How did I forget that?? I just started a The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks re-listen a few days ago. I can't interrupt Nick and Perry, no matter how often I've listened. I think this is the third or even fourth time.
Susinok wrote: "But after that, Fair Play and then Stranger on the Shore. Yay new audio!"Yes! So looking forward to them!!
I'm still listening to 'Greenwode' and it's SO bloody fantastic! After that it's either 'The Hell You Say', 'Stranger on the Shore' or 'Fair Game' (need to listen to that again before 'Fair Play').
:-D so glad you're loving Greenwode, Steve!
I, myself, just started The Two Towers a couple of days ago. Baaaad timing. Oh well.

I'm actually listening to The Lion and the Crow. Debating if I'll have to back burner it after tomorrow's release, or just enjoy it, looking forward to Josh's right after. And I also need to relisten to Fair Game to get in the transition for Fair Play. So happy!!

And what I just love about this group is that Mtsnow13 told me how to get more audiobooks! I was flummoxed and discouraged because I bought AE in print (b/c they're KEEPERS dammit!) and couldn't afford the audiobooks. So now when I get paid, I'll buy the whispersynced ebooks and still spend less money than if I purchased the audiobooks outright.
I don't know if I'm the only dummy who didn't know that, but it would have helped if there was a FYI primer. Babbling now. Gotta get back to work.

Wow! She's amazing. Thanks for sharing.
It was lovely to get the message this morning that Fair Play was available now since I had just finished one audiobook and didn't know what to listen to next. I had preordered it but then forgot when it was out :)
Oh, Lindsay Sterling is amazing! I have her first two CDs and love them! She did a cool video with The Piano Guys on their YouTube Chanel called " Mission Impossible" where they did their own version of the theme song complete with a really cute storyline about stealing sheet music from the piano player, MI style. That's how I was introduced to her music. :-)
Steve wrote: "The horror, Susinok! The horror! I hope your skies clear soon!"It worked! The skies cleared, and I downloaded both it and Strangers overnight, and started it on the way to work that morning.
Whew! Good narration on Fair Play.

Started listening to SPECTR, the complete first season last night. Hooked immediately (even if I was a bit confused at first) and stayed up way too late. :D
I just listened to Shattered Glass by Dani Alexander and I really enjoyed it, but what made it for me was the narrator. He was excellent.

Joseph Northton. This was the first time I've ever gone looking to see what other books a narrator has done. (Not that I've listened to a huge amount of audiobooks though.) Unfortunately he's only narrated one other title.
I just finished listening to Fair Play and I loved it. On to Stranger on the Shore. What a pleasure this is!

I wonder if he's using a stage name. So many of them seem to.

I have posted songs by this band before and someone here loved it (sorry for not remembering who, my memory is so bad). They released a new song and the video is taped in an actual volcano!

It was probably me! I love the new song. I have them in my Spotify favorites so I get notified of new releases. Thanks for sharing the video. :)

Wow. Thank you so much for sharing. The acoustics in there must've been awe inspiring. You can see his breath so they must've been cold too! Very bluesy. Definitely adding this group to my playlist.
Going off of the pleasant surprise theme in the Party thread... I was listening to a "new" recommended artist on Spotify and thinking "I know and love this voice, but from where?" Turns out he was the lead singer in a band I fell in love with a few years ago who broke up. Now I guess he is trying a solo career. Anyway, I love his new single:Coward - Troy

Grinning from ear-to-ear! Just finished listening to MUMMY DEAREST. OMG, I loved it. So glad Josh gave us a coda, but I'd really like to hear more about the further adventures of Drew and Fraser. Thrilled I bought this gem.
Of Monsters and Men just published a new lyrics video to Thousand Eyes. Probably their best lyrics video ever! Ihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wylkS...
Interpreted by my favourite actor who delivers all the creepiness the lyrics require.
He played the lead in one of my favorite Icelandic movies based on the story Jar City, an excellent Nordic Noir. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXkEk...
(btw the director is the same as directs Everest)
Neil Gaiman - A Father’s PrideNeil Gaiman comments on this:
The beautiful strangeness of this going up on the radio today: it's me telling a true story for The Moth about things I learned from my father and my son, Michael. And it goes up in the week that my new son arrived. Yes, I got teary. But it's actually funny.
It is in fact funny, but also moving.
