Yes, I must guiltily confess to a sea change.

I read and interesting article the other day on how the human brain should not be used to contain things like email addresses, etc. And it was actually a huge relief because I do feel sometimes like there is just so much information I am trying to retain...

But also the keeping up with every single comment, email, discussion. It's not possible. And even if it was, it's not healthy.

Thank you for saying that! That does make me feel a little better. I have such a bad memory, and there's SOOOOO much I'm trying to memorize and learn and remember. My brain feels like it wants to explode sometimes.

So far, it's ok. A typical fantasy in that I have no idea what's going on yet. I'm only about 45 mins in. He's going to LA, Sidhe territory, to pick up a pregnant elf. He hasn't left yet.

Aleksandr Voinov's Incursion is now available as an audio book!!! I just bought it on Audible and can't wait to listen to it. I loved the book the first time around, I can only imagine that audio would make it even better.

I started Rise & Fall the other day. I'm still thinking there are things about it that I would fix, but I do love the lighthearted tone and the characters and all the love going around. It's just what I needed at this moment in my life.

I had to stop listening to Three Nick Nowak Mysteries, in the middle of the second one as the tone isn't for me at this particular moment in time. I'll come back to it again soon though. I enjoyed the reminder of how good these stories are when I'm in the right mood for them and I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens to Nick after the first book!

I'll be starting Incursion after Rise and Fall.

He's had two already in audio, though he disliked the narrator of The Lion of Kent, as I recall.

I do have to recommend Dark Edge of Honor. If you liked Special Forces, you'll like this one. And the narrator is amazing! I've already listened to this one at least twice. And just thinking about it makes me want to dive back into it again.

I have The Lion of Kent audio book — I've listened to it a long time ago. Dark Edge of Honor audio I don't have, but I've read that one as ebook.

I'm especially looking forward to have Skybound in audio.

Steve Leonard (stevelonard) | 485 comments Just started listening to Greenwode by J. Tullos Hennig. I really like it so far. The narrator is reminiscent of Alexander J. Masters, especially his work on I Spy. I'm looking forward to this retelling of Robin Hood.

message 4019: by LJ (new)

LJ (ljwinn) | 18 comments As I've said before, J. Tullos Hennig's duology is one of my favourite listens. I sure hope Winterwode is also released in audio, and that the same narrator is used. I think Ross Pendleton does a superb job.

Amazing how tastes differ because I didn't particularly like Alexander J. Masters narration. But then I also avoid books by Sean Crisden, Paul Morey, Jeff Gelder, Max Lehnen, Matthew Lloyd Davies - among others. And Greg Tremblay is hit or miss for me.

Has anyone tried K.J. Charles A Fashionable Indulgence in audio? I really, really wanted to get it, but when I heard the sample - couldn't do it. Same with the recently released St. Nacho's series by Z.A. Maxfield.

Incursion sounds good though. Aleksandr Voinov is having a draw for some promo codes if you subscribe to his newsletter.

And save your credits because Fair Play and Stranger on the Shore are out on September 8 and the narrators sound promising!

Also, Maris Black, who I've never read, has a series of books released in mid-September with Chris Patten narrating.

Jordan Lombard (jslombard) | 15348 comments Mod
So glad you're enjoying it Steve! I hadn't thought of Masters, when listening to the Wodes, but I suppose they are a bit similar.

LJ, I've not heard of Winterwode, and I don't see it listed on GR. Is that a book three in the series? I certainly wouldn't mind another book!

Sean Crisden is a very hit or miss for me too. I think my biggest problem with him as a narrator is that he's just done too many books in this genre so that they all start to blend together. Plus, I've listened to him read some books that were just poorly written in the first place, which only makes things worse.

I bought Incursion, since I enjoyed the ebook, and I'll get to it soon as I finish Rise & Fall. Then I'll be sure to let you know how good it is.

I don't yet have designs to check out A Fashionable Indulgence, though I've enjoyed her other work. I just have too many books to read right now to contemplate something else I don't know much about. But I'm sure I'll get to it someday. I always end up behind in recently released books, trying to catch up with books that came out ages ago. lol.

Winterwode (DSP publications) is coming out in October - can't wait!

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I just finished listening to the two Curious Cookbook audios: Just Desserts and Food for Thought. Cute, pretty light listening. I seemed to enjoy Mary's more than Amy's, but both definitely worth the low price!

Loved Brandon's Then the Stars Fall, and wondering why I've put off s long, other than it was 12+ hours :-)

Thinking I'm in the mood for a historical so going to try out Rowan's Kindred Hearts and then maybe some historical fantasy with the writing duo Ariel Tachna and Nicki Bennett: All For One and Checkmate.

I read Incursion not too long ago, so holding off a little bit. But the sample sounds good!

Just started Incursion. Omg. Apparently I'm never going to learn to listen to the sample before buying. Wouldn't have stopped me in this case, but I might have been better prepared if I wasn't going to pay attention to the narrator's name. *face palm*

Aleks got one of the best narrators in the biz. He got the perfect narrator for the MC. My problem? All I hear is Victor Bayne!!! Lol. I never realized how similar in comments and thoughts this guy is with Vic until I heard Gomez's voice.

In short, this will be an interesting listen. Of course the MC is also wearing prosthetics, which only reminds me of another JCP book. Total coincidence!

I've never heard Gomez narrate anything other than Psycop. Training myself to not hear Vic will be fun. :-)

Can't beat classic MJ for sure!

I definitely need to find time to listen to new-to-me country artists that aren't popular. And not so much "grunge country" either. Lol. My local station only plays the brand new popular stuff which I guess is good background noise for me. Lol. I was kinda miffed that the DJs were getting excited for Garth Brooks' return to a local stage earlier this year, but they only played his new song about five times and none of his older stuff. Didn't make sense, and I was/am a huge Garth fan.

Still listening to Aleks' newest audio book and loving it, though the narrator is super hard to listen to without thinking about Vic. Kylie's actual voice doesn't sound like Vic, thankfully. Just his inner monologue. But Grim sounds like Jacob, only with a deeper voice. I had a good laugh over the idea that this could be Jacob and Vic telling a story.

I am really enjoying it, so please don't let my difficulties color your experience. Gomez is one of my favorite narrators to listen to, especially when things are going wrong in the world. I love his voice!

I'm going to have to listen to this again to really get it with out two Chicago Psycops in my head while I do. :-)
