Susinok | 5205 comments I'm on Boystown book 5 by Marshall Thornton. Such a great series of stories. I love them. I have the books but I am glad I waited and then listened to them instead. The narrator makes these stories come alive. Excellent writing and storytelling coupled with the perfect narrator makes these audiobooks perfect.

Hahahaa. I especially liked the parts where they sing about the Swedish names of the chairs and tables, and the part with meatballs tasting good. *still smiling*

As usual they're going with the big publishers and the big sellers. They aren't much interested in promoting indie artists, regardless of the genre or the money they make off us.

Steve Leonard (stevelonard) | 485 comments I started listening to 'The Darkling Thrush' on my way home from work. I'm liking it more as an audio than I did when I read it. For some reason my mind overworks and wanders when I read fantasy or paranormal, but when listening, I'm able to let it all wash over me. And Max Miller does such a fantastic job!

I find the same thing happens to me Steve. Especially with Josh's stories. He always picks such top notch narrators that I find myself experiencing the stories at a different level, and usually more so with the audio.

So I'm currently reading Neil Plakcy's Natural Predators, and in it Kimo mentions that the ringtone he uses for Mike on his cell phone is a song called "You're My World" by Cilla Black. I'd never heard of her before, but I looked up the song, and I love it! It's so sweet and romantic. I couldn't help but squee over it, rush to Amazon, and buy it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBZTN...

This was filmed in 1973, I think, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which is such a beautiful place, not that you can tell from this video. lol.

Also, I was at our pride parade and festival the other day and there was a country singer there. I was shocked, because this guy was famous in the 90's when he was ten years old. He had a hit song that went all the way to #1. Now, he's 27, amazingly good looking, with a different voice (of course), that just sounds amazing! His name is Billy Gilman. He came out recently, which was why he was doing a concert at the pride festival. I was just sad he didn't have cds for sale, or I would have bought one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq2HA...

This is his latest song, which I love, called "Say You Will".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NlT-...
This is his first #1 song, "One Voice".

I remember Billy Gilman. :) Another country singer, Ty Herndon, also came out recently. I remember he had a few big hits back in the '90s.

Yes, I actually have a few of his albums too! :-D

I'm so glad there are country artists coming out, and staying in country music. And that there are other country artists coming out in support of them. It makes me feel better about the genre of music I do like to listen to a lot.

Spent my afternoon painting and staining bookcases while listening to Ty Herndon and Elton John. Lol. I miss 90's country. Sorry guys, don't shoot me. I know I'm in the minority here, but I can't help it.

And I've always liked Elton John too. Though one of the songs was a duet with a woman who had a line that stuck with me as a very annoying line: ...'what a woman wants .' It's generalizing something that can't be generalized. A lot of songs have that line, but only now did I stop to think about it, and now I'm needlessly annoyed by it!

I keep recalling the days when I listened to, and loved, Randy Travis and George Strait. That was when I lived in Japan. Now that I'm back in Montana, I think I'm 'countried' out. I just no longer enjoy country music anymore :( But I do think there are some great singers and groups! I think I'm just in a bit more alternative and world mood as far as music lately.

I listened to a LOT of country music in the 80s and 90s - don't care much for it any more but I saw just about every top country artist in concert back then. Garth, Reba, Clint Black, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood... I loved country and alternative both - Garth and Nirvana, Pearl Jam. The Dixie Chicks rocked. :)

Now, I prefer folk and Americana to today's country music.

Jason Isbell - to me he is what country music should be (and he has a new album coming out soon, yay!). Such a great songwriter.

I think you'd have to be an only child -- or seriously fucked up -- to fall in love with a sibling.

For one thing, you just know your sibs too well for romance to be possible. ;-)

Idamus I found a bunch of free or as good as free books on Audible, I've spent the day listening to them. All books are less than 2 hours long.

Roger Ascham and the King's Lost Girl 3 stars

The Jewel of Dantenos: A Lee Starfinder Adventure from the World of The Godling Chronicles 3 stars

A Breach of Security 2 stars

The Vanishing Game 2 stars

Next up The Runner and The Horror at Red Hook

Ame | 1744 comments I've been saving Something Like Summer for a rainy day and oh, what a treat. Is it just Kevin's narration or is the book really funny? I find myself laughing out loud so many times even if it's sad at times as well. He does it all so well.

Such a treat. If you haven't got it in audio I recommend an instant buy. One of the best audiobooks buy of this year.

You're welcome, most are just shorts, 30-90 min long, but once in a blue moon I find a novel, there are also the daily deals, although, the last one I got turned out to be book 2 :D
Hopefully it's still an OK read

I was kind of hesitant going into it, because of so many positive reviews it's horrible when you get disappointed but I do love it. Not sure if it's just the book, I imagine Kevin R. Free's narration also plays a big part in it. I haven't read it so this is my first encounter of that story.

Anyway. Sorry you didn't like it, maybe you should listen to the sample on Audible.

I really like that series. I bought Something Like Autumn (my favorite of the series that I've read so far) in audio but haven't listened to it yet. I know it will be good since Kevin is the narrator, but it is also kind of a tough read with a bittersweet ending.
