What we're listening to
Just finished The Hobbit. The narrator was fabulous. But the movies definitely did not follow the story very well. So much interesting parts were left out. :-( the movies would have been better for sticking to the plot!
This was also really good to listen to while being sick. My eyes hurt too much to watch tv, so this was perfect.

Jordan, I'm sorry you're feeling so ill. I think that audiobooks are perfect when you just want to lie still with your eyes closed.

Now I'm sad that I'm out of credits as I really want book 3

Oooh, I'm so looking forward to this! I simply haven't had chance to listen to it yet. Actually, I don't think I have even bought it yet... *gulp*

I have had the same experience Carlita (in the train :-) )It is very good!

They're not broadcast in the UK? That's surprising. Although I guess there's no reason everything Australian would make it to the UK. I just sort of imagined it would be an obvious one.

I also find it surprising that they're not broadcast here, given the seemingly endless liking for period drama and for crime shows. I don't think we get much Australian TV here, actually, now I come to think of it.

That was the only one I thought of at first. And then I remembered one for children about flying doctors.

I really liked The Feds, Halifax f.p. and some of the early Water Rats.

Never heard of any of these!

Halifax is (or was anyway) available on DVD
I have given up on ever finding The Feds

But!!! Started Among the Living by Jorden Castillo Price. MUCH better! Whew!

I started listening to it yesterday, very good if a bit different than how i imagined it.
Also listened to Charlie Cochet's Mending Noel, it's a sweet and short Christmas story.

Yeah I think he is. He needs some assertiveness training. :) And not submissive really, he just doesn't want to deal with the fallout of someone else's unhappiness. Probably why he stuck with David. At the time it was just easier.

Wow. Thank you Antonella. Beautiful music.

It is only the Brahms/Schubert concert for free, for the rest (live streams and concert recordings) you need a ticket or subscription, but still it is a very good deal.

I'm still slightly iffy on Gomez's voice for Jacob, but yeah, he's definitely got Vic's voice down pat. I've already been listening to Psycop over and over again when I get into an audio rut. :-)

I started The Charioteer the other night. It's slow going. I've so far only been listening to it while attempting to wash more dishes each night. lol.
I really like the narrator's regular voice. I'm not so big on his attempts at voicing children and women, especially Laurie's mother. I've finally gotten to the part where he's in the hospital, so the voices are sounding more natural right now. :-)

I vaguely remember a drama series about the Australian soldiers who fought in Vietnam (something I didn't even know about until then) but I have no clue what it was called.
And of course going back earlier, there was the legendary Skippy. :D

Oh yes Skippyyyy, Skippyyy, Skippy the bush kangaroo, how could I forget Skippy

What's that Skip? They're trapped in a cave and can't get out?"
The Feds ran from 93 to 95 according to IMDb

I've seen later that not everything is for free, thank you.
Still, more than the 3 concerts Brahms/Schubert cycle is for free, if you look around.

I remember Heartbreak High when I was a teen... :)

In this world where everyone is 'talking', whether it's via social media, our workplaces, or entertainment, it's like the canary in the coal mine when someone is actually saying it's okay to be an introvert, despite how many around us make us feel.
I've never been motivated by Money or promotions, I dislike conflict, I feel drained after being around a lot of people, even if I've enjoyed myself.
In the business world, I'm made to feel as if there's something inherently wrong with me because I don't mind solitude, And do not have the goal of climbing the corporate ladder.
And I like the fact that there actually is a difference between 'shyness' and 'introversion'. This book explains there is room for both introverts and extroverts in society.

I've heard Quiet recommended before. I've also enjoyed The Introvert Advantage for the same reasons you pointed out.
*sigh* if only I didn't have to be such a "people person" at work all the time...

You rang? :-)

Lol! :-D

I'm enjoying the audio too. I read the books quite a while ago, so it's great to revisit them; i forgot how enthusiastic Vic gets with the pills :-)
I always thought it interesting that Jacob is so tolerant of Vic's pill habits. Though, really, how could he not be? And then Vic realizes he's probably been on pills for their entire relationship and wonders about that and tries to stop. Really, they're both kind of adorable about it.

Everybody talking and nobody listening. Has that ever been truer than it is in this day and age? :-D
Not only is it permissible to not take part in social media, I think it's advisable to limit the amount of time we spend online.
That is definitely one of my goals for this year. I've been moving in that direction anyway, but there's always been a little twinge of guilt. The knowledge that it's part of my job to get out there and hit the social media platforms.
But more and more I think that I want to live the life I planned for myself when I was first dreaming of (and working toward) writing for a living. Okay, the castle by the ocean is out but I can surely manage to avoid spending five hours a day watching twitter and reading blogs that mostly irritate me anyway. :-D
There has to be quality of life or what is the point?
Not that I don't have a very good life, and I know that most writers would kill for what I've managed to achieve, but that constantly buzzing connection is tiring and distracting. Not just for me, not just for writers, for everyone.
I think it's part of the reason for the increasing number of blowups over...what? It's like people reacting to conditions of overcrowding, only the overcrowding is virtual.
Anyway, my rule now is I will only participate in social media that brings me pleasure and adds value to my life -- this group is the perfect example. My FB pages are another. I enjoy blogging, so I'll keep blogging. But I'm not going to try and be in every group and list and page. And, more difficult, I'm going to try not to feel guilty about that.
In the book, what is their explanation of shyness versus introversion?

A very, very, VERY good decision, that.
And forget the guilt. Instead of that be proud of yourself for making such a sane decision. You will be happier this way!

What Johanna says. You should always listen to Johanna, she is very wise. :)

Who is the narrator?"
The narrator is Julian Simmons. I am in the middle of the same audiobook too, it is very good and I agree Mr Simmons is excellent.

I couldn't agree with you more, Josh. I've gone through and cleaned up the 'Groups' that I was somehow joined to in FB, and decided I'm going to try to stick to posting positive images or messages vice feeding into negativity or venting if at all possible.
“Shyness is the fear of social disapproval or humiliation, while introversion is a preference for environments that are not overstimulating. Shyness is inherently painful; introversion is not.”

This is an interesting point, Susunok. Many of my favourite audiobooks were recorded in that way, reading rather than acting, and I like it just as much. I find it a little surprising when the narrator of a new audiobook is criticised for "just reading".
