Scottish accents are amazingly sexy. Like everything else Scottish. Kilts, anyone? ;-)

But I also really like the accent of Badger from Firefly. I don't know where it's from, but it's the same one Alexander Masters used for the dead guy in Out of the Blue. It's just lots of fun to listen to.

Oh yeah, just listened to OOTB this afternoon and loved it! I love listening to all of his accents. They're amazing and really nice to listen to.

Loretta (loris65) | 1545 comments I just finished Out of the Blue. I LOVE Alexander Masters!

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments Yes. I always advise others to sample, and on those last three I just read the blurbs and sampled one, and grabbed them. Well, sometimes even sampling doesn't tell you enough about whether you'll like the book *grimaces*

message 3306: by Mtsnow13 (new)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments So, I'm doing a comfort audio right now. Mary Calmes, in Still. Amazing, as I gave so many to choose from, and I never know what I'm in the mood for! I did enjoy Out of the Blue, though. Thank you Josh :-D

message 3307: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I'm still listening to The Sands of Windee by Arthur W. Upfield. I am in the mood for more classic mystery. I believe I have The Thin Man. I'll listen to that next.

Ame | 1744 comments Well I've recovered from Sean Crisden horrid mistake (poor guy, I feel for him because usually he does a stellar job). And I just finished The Haunted Heart: Winter which is just EXCELLENT! Loved it and was unapprochable by my family during listening time. BTW when is next Haunted heart out? Because I crave it now. I have a real flashback to Adrien and Jake coupling while reading (listening) about Flynn and Kirk. Two tortured souls... does it get any better?

I started listening to Body and Soul yesterday after my 2 hour nap and it helped to clear my headache! Not finished with it yet, but I'm really enjoying it, soooo much!

And laughing everytime Jacob says "uh-huh." I think of Jake. :-)

:-) You're welcome! I didn't know it was out until yesterday myself. Thank Idamus. I think he was the one who mentioned it somewhere here first.

Susinok | 5205 comments Now that there are three Psycops in audio, I need to start listening. I look forward to that.

Right now I am listening to The Thin Man. Man Nick must've died of liver failure by 50. The man never stops drinking.

And Asta is a Schnauzer, not a fox terrier like the movies! Hah.

I've had that on my wish list for ages, but Audible UK doesn't have it. Who narrated the one you're listening to?

message 3315: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments William Dufris is the narrator. Does a good job, too. I've listened to him before.

HJ | 3603 comments Thanks Susinok. Unavailable here, unfortunately.

message 3317: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments Good heavens they toned down The Thin Man for the movies. Some of those characters are really rough. I have not read any Dashiel Hammett, just seen the movies.

I'm sort of lost, I have to admit. So many characters and I'm not sure who was murdered.

message 3318: by Becky (new)

Becky Black (beckyblack) I've got that narrated by William Dufris one too. It's good.

I know what you mean about toning it down for the movies. Reading/listening to it I kept thinking "Blimey these people are unpleasant." :D

This made me laugh! If you don't know who was murdered it's hard to work out who dunnit. It's so long since I read any of the books that all I remember is that I thought Dashiel Hammett was really good. I must re-read!

I do need to put together some kind of rough schedule for next year. Everything has kind of changed because suddenly and out of the blue, we fell in love with a house and are now actively and obsessively pursuing it. Even if this house does (NOOOOOO) fall through, we are now determined to move this year, so...

Most likely HH2 will be next year -- I'd pretty much already settled on that because there is so much pressure for a sequel to The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks and Blind Spot/Side, so either way...even without house hunting fever, HH2 would be unlikely to happen before 2016.

The Thin Man is not, by any stretch, Hammett's best work. But the potential of the book -- realized by the movies (especially the first 2) -- is so powerful that we all forget that. ;-) And yes, the movies did tone down a number of elements. They also cut some of the off-topic ramblings (the cannibalism story, etc.)

?? Normally in a mystery you do know who died. It's the killer that remains a mystery til the end. WHO DIED? I'm so confused! Maybe my mind was wandering when that bit happened. (audiobook)

I got it on Audible UK a while ago. But though it's still in my library and I can download it, it's showing as not currently available for purchase. :-( Annoying.

message 3328: by Susinok (new)

Darn...I was still in 2014 and then I saw 2016 :(

Oh well, I just have to do with the ones I still haven't read but I admit I am pretty excited about Haunted Heart.

BTW was Ghost were yellow socks always supposed to have a sequel? I honestly thought it was a standalone so I never expected another one.

Also, Blind Spot? Obviously I am bad fan :/

BTW good luck with house hunting I hope you get the house of your dreams, I totally understand not getting it. It is pretty devastated if it doesn't work out even if it's just a box of bricks.

I started listening to The Hobbit the other day. I like the narrator. He does a perfect Gandalf! lol. And he's not a bad singer either!

Hopefully I'll get back into it on my frigid way home tonight. Stupid me didn't check the weather before leaving home, and didn't think long johns were important today. I was wrong.

THAT'S COOL! ... and LOL. Definitely not what I was thinking. I was going to say long underwear, but that felt funny to post about underwear online here, even though I was still gonna do that anyway.

No, on both counts! I'm so confused. Some woman got murdered. How she's related to the rest of the cast of 1000s I have NO IDEA.

I haven't felt this dumb in a long time.

Oh. Sorry I asked! Mind you, Josh did say you'd only know once you'd finished, so unless or until you do finish you're not supposed to understand who she was and so you are not dumb.

Becky Black (beckyblack) I've just started Goldenboy, #2 of the Henry Rios mysteries. It's breaking my heart already.

I don't usually have audiobooks queued up to read, but now I have waiting:

Out of the Blue by Josh Lanyon

The Boy with the Painful Tattoo (Holmes & Moriarity, #3) by Josh Lanyon

Along with a load of Sherlock Holmes ones narrated by Derek Jacobi, but I'll be doing those gradually over the year.

And now have 9 credits left until May...

:-) Well, the past few days I haven't. It's been very cold out! But, I don't do it all at once. I wear my fitbit activity tracker all day, so it counts the steps I take to the bathroom in the morning, the steps I take from my desk to the bookshelves at work as well as the long walks. I've determined that on average (so far) I need to take a serious 2 mile walk to make up the rest of my miles for each day. Sometimes a bit more than 2 miles and sometimes it's a bit less than that. And that two mile walk takes me about an hour, which isn't too bad. Though I haven't been doing it lately. I can't wait for the weather to warm up a tad!

Susinok | 5205 comments And now for something completely different. I finished Tattoo boy over the weekend while sorting my new beads.

So now I am listening to Ringworld by Larry Niven. This is one of my #1 favorite science fiction books when I was younger. I read it I don't know how many times. It and the sequel The Ringworld Engineers.

Though I re-read them both a LOT, I have not read them since The Ringworld Throne came out quite a while ago. I re-read them for that book and then never finished Throne.

I haven't read Ringworld in ages, and had forgotten to add it to GR.
Just added them all to my Audible wishlist.

message 3350: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments The narrator is a bit old-fashioned in that he's reading it rather than acting. It does not detract much from the audio, though.
