KC | 4897 comments I did watch a couple of movies, Hogfather for sure, and maybe something with the witches, but i didn't really like them. Same as Sabine, i find that the fantasy elements, and also Pratchett's particular wit and humor, don't translate well in movie form, imo, of course.

Vetinari is pretty cool, in his own very special way. :-) In the Tiffany books, i like the first one best because of the macfeegles and then in the later books, we get glimpses of the grannies, so i always look forward to that.

Ásgeir is gorgeous — a gorgeous voice. I guess I'm going shopping. Just wish there were more of his songs in Icelandic available on iTunes. They are so lovely. Thanks for these links.

What Karen said.

Becky Black (beckyblack) I've seen a couple of the movies, but they never really measure up - and I'm pretty tolerant about movie adaptations of books, I'm not all purist about it. But the movies never really capture what makes the books cool.

The witches and the guards are my favourite series books. If I want to convert someone to Pratchett I always give them either Guards! Guards! or Wyrd Sisters depending on which I think they'll like most.

There are some great one off books though. Pyramids is still a pleasure to read - with its camel called "You Bastard" :D Small Gods is brilliant. The Truth is a favourite because I like journalists as characters. I listened to the audio of that recently. It's very topical with its themes of privilege and media and behind the scenes political intrigue by the people who think they are entitled to run things.

I think most of his songs are now available in Icelandic now on this album: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/in-...

I think it's also on Amazon. One of his new songs in Icelandic is called Stormurinn, I love it but I couldn't find any video of it ;)

I got a chance to listen to a bunch of the short stories on audio last night while I balled some new yarn I bought the other day.

I have to say, I really like the narrator for In Plain Sight. And I love that story. Every time I listen to it, I'm surprised by how much I like it!

Wow! That is a lot of listening.

So the good news is Kevin R Free has finished recording TBWTPT. The bad news is I don't have time to listen because I'm busy writing. BUT it's coming!

Cool! I was thinking about that the other day when i started listening to A Ghost of a Chance. He's really really good. His Kit voice is so strong in my mind, also because it *is* Kit's voice as i imagined it, so i was curious about A Ghost of a Chance, but he's different and very awesome! :-)

And I am really happy to hear from you, Josh :-)

If I manage to find time to listen to the files this weekend, there is a chance -- although Audible gets really backed up this time of year.

I'm trying!

I'm enjoying This Rough Magic right now, and thinking a re-listen to The Dickens With Love will be perfect too!

Susinok | 5205 comments Sample Life After Joe first. I couldn't get it after listening to that sample.

message 3127: by Mtsnow13 (new)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments Yes, I agree Susinok. That sample turned me off the audio :( but I did enjoy reading the book! I don't understand how a narrator I can love in another audio can turn me off with their choice to change characters.. Charlie David is a big hit or miss for me as well...

message 3128: by Varecia (new)

Varecia | 956 comments Uhh, okay - well, I already bought it, because the price was very low, the equivalent of a Starbuck's coffee. I let you know what I think. Maybe I have the advantage here of not being a native speaker, it makes me much more tolerant with english audiobooks than I would be with german ones (or maybe I am just less perceptive, who knows...).

message 3129: by Becky (new)

Becky Black (beckyblack) I couldn't get away with Life After Joe audio either. Since it's set where I live the characters have my local accent so anything even a little off about it is too glaring for me.

message 3130: by HJ (new)

HJ | 3603 comments Susinok wrote: "Sample Life After Joe first. I couldn't get it after listening to that sample."

Me neither. I was wondering if it was only because I'm English so could hear that the accent wasn't a success, so it's interesting to hear you say the same.

message 3131: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I'm not British but I know the accents. They really needed to pick a British reader for that book.

On a good note, Harper Fox reports that the narrator for Scrap Metal is really excellent. She had a hand in choosing that one.

Winter Knights by Harper Fox

I like that one, but I wish the narrator would have used Web's father's voice for Web and Web's voice for the father. I think. That's one I never relistened to. Actually, I don't think I relisten to them almost ever, it's just I hear the one's I'm producing a LOT. The others it's just the one time through. I usually don't even finish coz I know how it ends. ;-D

Yeah, it took me the entire audio book before I got used to Sean's narration in Life After Joe. He reads it so differently than anything else he's done, it almost doesn't seem to be the same person!

I've been listening to Slide in audio and the narrator isn't bad. But I wish he would stop with the sound effects. When a character laughs or sighs or takes a deep breath, he does. But he does it after he says he's going to do it, since it's written in first person. It's kind of annoying. Especially the laugh, which sounds almost like it's coming from a bully, and not a loving partner.

Anyway, it's been getting me through my sick days, so I guess that's good. lol.

I had planned to listen to my copy of Swan Lake that I'd copied onto a USB drive, but my work computer isn't updated and it refuses to download some document I apparently need to play the darned thing. So, I'm listening to stress relief music that I already had on here.

Today is a day for updating websites and looking up information to include on resource pages, which requires good relaxing music, in my opinion. lol. Just irritating I can't listen to what I'd planned and looked forward to.

I just bought Rare, even though the narrator did some annoying sound effects, I found I like his voice for the two MCs and I was interested to know what happened next, even though I kinda thought the first one covered the ending pretty well.

So far, it's ok.
