I know! (And I'm not being sarcastic here — I really, really like Mark.)

My editor hated him. :-D It was funny (sort of) at the time. We laughed about it later. But yes, Mark is not universally loved.

I probably only disliked Jake briefly during The Hell You Say, well, he did test his fans' limits there! And for some reason, the audio version made his "cruel" actions sounded worse...

Maybe that's a success, in a way ;-P

Kudos to Chris for making people hate Jake more! :-D :-D :-D

It really is fascinating how we all react so differently to individual characters. From the first moment I read Mark he grabbed my heart and never let go. In ISSB I ached for how much he wanted Stephen back. He is absolutely one of my favorites.

message 3007: by Carlita (new)

Carlita Costello | 1219 comments Odd. I love Mark. It's just a good thing he found Stephen to balance him out. These two are among my top four JL couples. :-)

Not that I'm saying I'd want to hang out with him. He'd make me nervous. Like if you approach him from the wrong angle he'll shoot you or something. :D But I love to read about him.

That's a brave thing to do.

Anyway, my comment was only for Eve, because we know each other since a long time and she was one of the people who pushed me to read Josh in the distant 2008.

I really liked Mark (Oh, hello Mark...). I felt sorry for him a bit. He is so exhausted from his former life.

HJ | 3603 comments Josh wrote: Kudos to Chris for making people hate Jake more! :-D :-D :-D ..."

Yes, but even more kudos to Chris for making people love him more, too! I certainly like him more than I did when I read the books initially.

But I think that's also a function of reading all the books in the series one after the other; when I had to wait for ages for the next book in which Jake redeems himself (more or less) the dislike I had for him festered. But when I can read the books one after the other I can understand him and his choices a bit better, and end up forgiving him and liking him. And then Chris has that marvellous irresistible voice for him...

And he truly is at his worst when we first meet him. He's injured, exhausted, and on the verge of a breakdown. Which would probably test anyone's social skills -- and his are somewhat limited to start with. :-D

Fair Game

For maybe the third time. Even though I don't care for the narrator's intonation or expression. Still it's nice hear read aloud. : )

Listening to things backwards is sometimes more fun and interesting!

I'm downloading Cards on the Table now. But got caught up in a sample audio for one of my favorite books and then had a heart attack when I saw the price. Lol. Big name author. Big name pub house. They'll do that to you when you haven't shopped there in a long time. You get used to lower prices you can actually afford on a whim that might come along pretty often. *sigh* One Door Away From Heaven by Dean Koontz will go on my wish list. Maybe it can be my Xmas present to myself? I love the sample clip. Perfect scene to choose.

Oh, and Slide, by Garret Leigh is on sale for $1.99, for those in the mood for angst with your gay romance! I liked the book, so I grabbed the audio just now too.

I had trouble with the narrator at first, but then the story swept me away and I didn't notice as much.

Not my favorite narrator, either, but I still was able to enjoy the story. I need to re-listen, hopefully this weekend or next week. I just haven't been in the mood for audiobooks lately. I've been catching up on podcasts and listening to music during my commutes.

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments I have a book hangover from listening to Fangirl yesterday. I loved it so much, I didn't want it to end. I finished listening at 2 a.m. and immediately opened the ebook on my Kindle to highlight my favorite parts. Such a great listen and I loved that Cath, the protagonist, writes slash fic (and reads it out loud to her boyfriend, lol).

Speaking of slash, I'm currently listening to some free Sterek (Teen Wolf) fluff, No Homo.

I think I will start Burn for Me, the new Ilona Andrews' UF tomorrow.

Of course, I've already bought 5 or 6 so far this month (mostly whispersync deals) so I'm good.

Well, the UK books are pricier than their US counterparts, at least for me

message 3035: by Mtsnow13 (new)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I'm going thru and adding whispersync deals to my cart to take advantage of the 4/10 deal... Then I can use the 10 on the ones that aren't whispersynced

message 3036: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments I used my last credit on Burn for Me but I buy mostly Whispersync books that aren't available at my library. I've had the "Light" membership since last February, and I'm not sure if I'm going to go back to a regular membership or not.

Also, it's probably been mentioned before, but if you check out the Kindle version from the library (or borrow through Kindle lending program) you can get the Whispersync price at audible. I've used that a lot. My library carries a lot more ebooks than audiobooks through Overdrive.

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments Wow, Scribd is now offering audiobooks with their subscription services.

https://gigaom.com/2014/11/06/scribd-...

This may convince me to keep my Scribd subscription when my free trial runs out. I already like their e-book selection better than Kindle Unlimited.

Idamus Finished The Complaints by Ian Rankin, 3 stars for the story, 5 for the sexy voiced narrator

I have book 2 as well, but I need to read a book written by a friend first Fixing the Hole and then of course there's new JL book in my future
