Becky Black (beckyblack) Nabbed it! But I might actually save it for November.

That's NaNoWriMo, so I'll be using every available moment to write and won't get as much reading time as usual. But I can listen to audiobooks at times I can't sit down with my Kindle.

OMG, he's amazing. I had recently finished I Spy and am now listening to Snowball In Hell, and am surprised a bit by the range in his accents. He did a believable (to this American) English accent in the I Spy books, and a wide variety of American accents in both. I'm loving his voice, and how differently he read both books.

Back before I had audible books in a way that could travel easily, I used the text-to-speech on my Kindle only in emergencies. As in, I'd been awake all night and couldn't sleep trapped in a room with people snoring too loudly and I'd forgotten to bring my ear plugs, or something. That's why I'm soooo glad stories like ISOIS are available on audible now. I can listen to it without my ears bleeding! lol.

This is true. However, I've read a few books by the same narrator where they did a terrible job on one book but were almost brilliant on another by a different author. I was surprised to go back later and realize it was the same author. So, that changes how I look at narrators too. I think the narrator and the book have to be a good fit together. Otherwise: disaster strikes! lol.

I've also noticed that the audible editions of Croak and Scorch are on sale too, for those who are interested in a little YA grim reaper action with tons of humor and poor dead Edgar Allan Poe getting picked on by dead American presidents.

I loved this. I love Gina's humor, and I'm really sad that she doesn't live near me any more. She used to visit the library sometimes just because she was picking up a book. She's doing a book talk next week for us, and I'm going to be on the other side of the country. boo!

I have yet to listen to the audios yet. Just downloaded them and can't wait to give them a listen!

Anyway, here's the links to audible:

Croak: http://www.audible.com/pd/Teens/Croak...

Scorch: http://www.audible.com/pd/Teens/Scorc...

Rogue is the third book in the trilogy, but is not on sale.

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments Is anyone listening to Serial, a new podcast from the creators of This American Life? It's hosted by Sarah Koenig. This season is about the real-life 1999 murder case of Baltimore high school senior, Hae Min Lee. Her ex-boyfriend was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. After listening to the first 3 episodes I'm not sure if I believe he is guilty or not. Anyway, I think it's really good, and I can't wait for the next episode.

:-)

I am fascinated by these types of stories.

"What she realized is that the trial covered up a far more complicated story, which neither the jury nor the public got to hear. The high school scene, the shifting statements to police, the prejudices, the sketchy alibis, the scant forensic evidence - all of it leads back to the most basic questions: How can you know a person’s character? How can you tell what they’re capable of?"

Is he guilty or is an innocent man serving life in prison?

Susinok | 5205 comments With the flurry of Josh Lanyon releases, I totally forgot I had Terry Pratchett's Raising Steam on my iPod. That's what I'll listen to tomorrow at the hospital. Nothing like 100% absurdity to jolly me through this.

message 2965: by Becky (new)

Becky Black (beckyblack) I'm listening to a Pratchett myself right now. The Truth, which is one of my favourites.

I'm partly listening because it's about a journalist and I've got a journalist hero in my upcoming NaNoWriMo story, so feel like some journalist stories. So I suppose that's a good excuse to listen to Snowball in Hell again too. :D

message 2966: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I read The Truth a long time ago. Not sure if I have it on Audio or not. I am slowly building my entire Pratchett audio library. His writing is perfect for audio. It's even that much funnier.

HJ | 3603 comments I'm listening to The Haunted Heart: Winter, but it's too scary for me to listen to at night (yes, I'm a wimp; I wouldn't have read this one except that it was by Josh). So I have to revert to Georgette Heyer when I wake up in the middle of the night; that tends to be better anyway, because I know them so well that I don't concentrate and therefore stay awake.

When I was listening to the audio files, I was home alone late at night, and I admit it was a little creepy. Even for me!

In fact, I don't like to work on scary scenes late at night. My imagination does take over, which I guess is natural. I'm trying to throw myself into the scene and experience what the characters would, so no wonder if I freak myself out a little! And freaking out the reader is definitely a goal. :-D

Loretta (loris65) | 1545 comments I have been so busy lately, that I haven't got the last three of Josh's audios, and I have two that I haven't listened to yet. :( I really want to get the Haunted Heart but I am afraid it will scare the bejeezus out of me if I listen at night. Maybe after Halloween on a sunny, sunny weekend morning.

We had a cold spot that moved around -even during heatwaves, and locked doors that opened on their own, our poor dog whimpered and shivered if she felt the cold spot.
A woman died in the house and was burried in the garden, the owner before us found her and a small stone with her name when they removed some bushes.
She died during the war so a young ghost, we never found out why she was burried in the garden though

It only had the name, but I think she was in her 40es, I'll have to check with the parents for that sort of details, it was not so much of interest to my 9 yo self :p

I started out disliking Jake. But now that I'm rereading the AE books, I have a better insight into Jake since finishing the last book. I really like Jake. A lot. :-)

And since finishing all of Josh's books, I can now read the new releases as they come out. I feel like I'm accomplished something huge, by finishing them. And now I get to enjoy rereading them. Plus, a lot of them I've forgotten what happens because of my stupid brain with bad memory, so I can enjoy them almost as if for the first time.
