Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments I am definitely looking forward to TBWTPT audiobook. :-)

I'm currently listening to Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore which is strange but interesting so far.

I also started Boystown 3: Two Nick Nowak Novellas. Nick, Nick, Nick - I just want to shake him sometimes. Otherwise, I like the guy. ;-)

And I started to listen to Boystown 5: Murder Book by Marshall Thornton. The very first sentences gave me such a shock that at first I had to rewind and list to them a couple of times to make sure I heard right and then I had to stop for a while and gather my strength to be able to dare to continue listening. This series is getting better and better book by book. And yes, I share your feelings about Nick, Valerie. I seriously don't know if I should shake him or hug him. I do like him a lot. :-)

It is shocking! I can't wait for the next one. And yes they do get better and better by every book.

Nick is such antihero. I love him but the man is seriously flawed! But I guess I, as his lovers realize that loving him means to accept all his faults ;)

Damn, I'm codependent.

Please get Kevin. Just please. I'd offer him virgin maidens if I knew any but.... lifetime supplies of chocolate?

But seriously. I think it's so important to keep the same narrator, especially if they do such a spendid job as Kevin with does with Kit. He just is Kit! And to this date these are your funniest books. Kit is just..... a mess but a fun, functional mess :)

message 2860: by Alison (new)

Alison | 4756 comments I discovered this band last week and I think what they do is pretty clever. They're called Postmodern Jukebox and they do old fashioned, jazzy, ragtimey versions of modern songs and some of them are quite cool (and some I like way better than the originals!). Here's a few tunes:

Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5meWI...

All About That Bass (Meghan Trainor)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyTTX...

Thrift Shop (Macklemore)

That's really cool!

I just got The Only Big Band CD You'll Ever Need. It's got a mix of artists like Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman on it. This is the best introductory cd for swing music. Now I know who to look for when I grab more. I love this kind of music, but never knew enough about it to find more.

Enjoy, Jordan! You can't go wrong with those three. I grew up listening to that sort of music and I love it. My grandfather actually saw a lot of those bands back in the thirties and it was always fun hearing his stories.

You are absolutely right! I have audios from (of?) very good stories and the reading is not so good. I can hear to them, but it is not the same beautiful experience. But if someone reads with a very good voice a dreadful story, I am done with it after twenty minutes.

I had some difficulties with the download, but once I got on a wi-fi it downloaded just fine, it's an OK album, not my favourite though

Well, I had to work really hard to get it so I don't know about that, and I can easily remove the songs the same way I would any other song on my phone
I have no idea about iTunes for PC and Mac though, I don't use that

From what I understand you can only hide them from the Cloud and not delete them. So far. The problem for some is the lack of freedom in choosing to download it or not.

message 2881: by Becky (new)

Becky Black (beckyblack) Yes people were very miffed that it was just added to their iTunes account without permission. Seems fair to complain. People don't like high handedness. If they'd been offered it rather than having it imposed I'm sure plenty of people would have taken it, because, hey, free! Seems like a misstep by Apple.

I'm going start listening to Mummy Dearest today as soon as I've finished Boystown #6. I can't wait! I'm so glad to hear you guys loved it! :-)

ETA: I remember Josh asking his readers which ones of his books would they like to listen to in audio (this was back when he just started to work on the whole audio book process) and I remember posting that I'd love to see Come Unto These Yellow Sands, The Dickens With Love and Mummy Dearest in audio. So, now when also Mummy Dearest is out, I feel very satisfied, indeed. :-)

message 2891: by Anne (new)

Anne | 6816 comments I'm currently listening to A Ghost of a Chance while knitting socks to give my daughter's boyfriend for Christmas. It's not my favourite story or narration, but what characters Josh creates! I'm more into ruggedness than pretty- boy pretty, and the way Sam Devlin is described...;). But more than that, it's the personality of the people, leaping off the pages. And not just the MCs. Everybody, also the minor ones, be it Southern belles (A Vintage Affair), Lisa in the Adrien English books or a lovesick, lonely painter in A Ghost of a Chance. They are all so different, and all so wonderfully alive.

This is such a good point, Anne, and it's one of the things which makes Josh the excellent writer that he is! Each of his characters is an individual, not a stereotype, fully-realised and distinguishable form the others.
