What we're listening to

You could always give them away. Like, in a give-away. *ouch, don't hit me too hard, please*
Suffice to say, same goes for me. I have all of them. Loved Snowball in Hell btw. And The Dark Farewell was a strange-good experience. Not unpleasant, just strange in the way Max chose the voice for the characters.

Not a bad idea, that. Not the smacking, the giveaway. ;-) Although right now I think we better just tip-toe here in Josh's living room and try not to disturb him too much. Maybe a small (very small!) BBQ party/giveaway when the TBWTPT rough draft will be finished? :-)
What's that? Oh, yes, such a good idea to hide his cell phone. And quick, go to the door before that UPS courier rings the doorbell! Right, more reward books for Josh, I assume...

Giving away audio books."
Don't pick me, I have them all. :)"
And same again for me. I have all the audio books, but wanted to send support. :)

There's a lot of voice-acting in Snowball in Hell, I LOVED Nathan's voice in it especially :-)

Yes, the narrator is wonderful. :)

The comments have been very sweet. Actually, the only thing I was having trouble writing was a blog post, so it's funny too. But it really is energizing seeing how much enthusiasm there is for this book. And given all the interruptions this week, it's great reading all those reminders to take it one step at a time, etc.
I have a lot of very sensible readers! :-D

Hm, in the light what you wrote here, my comment is then friendly spoken a little dramatic and in a way funny. But is was written with my heart and soul! ( and in bad english, heart and soul is never good for my english ). I'm feeling a little bit ashamed now! But perhaps you can take the comments and read them again, when you need support!?

I loved what you wrote. It was one of the most touching comments.
It's always -- always -- surprising to me that anyone actually cares if I finish writing anything. And I know that must seem odd given how much we interact here, but despite that interaction writing is solitary, and the process of writing is personal and private. You are lost in your own world for hours and hours and hours. It's like deep sea diving. So when you pop back to the surface and find people waiting in boats to cheer you on, it's both startling and encouraging. :-)

Listening to it now. Love the narration!
Just bought it. Made myself listen to an hour of The Odyssey first. Lol.
I've listened to the first chapter. So far it's good. But Jacob's voice sounds like a Radio DJ I listened to as a kid, that I still sometimes hear when I'm home. It'll take some getting over that, I think, before I'm fully on board with Jacob.
Anyway, I'm taking an audio break now, which also means a break from knitting. It's time for dinner!

Thanks Josh!
Still listening to Snowball in Hell. Nathan just escaped the goons and is recuperating from his concussion. Great voice acting here. It's lots of fun. I read this quite a while ago so it's nice to get a refresher.
I just got All She Wrote and Yellow Socks. My problem now is my suddenly shotty wifi that seems to keep going in and out. It's taking me forever to download the first book, never mind the second one I haven't touched yet! Grrrr!!!
But I will say, big thanks to the awesomest author for giving away books like he does when he doesn't have to in the first place!

Before I leave you (again) I thought you film buffs might find this interesting. I believe there's a book in here. ;-)

I just had too many of Josh's not yet bought, that there was no question who's books I was going to buy. lol. Now there's three left, I think. As of today anyway.

Which lead to another interesting article about film. Physical film use in the movies.

It's an issue, for sure, given how much antique film stock is out there deteriorating. Film preservation is an important cause, for sure.
On that note, it's amazing how much classic Doctor Who from the 60s believed to be lost (because the BBC destroyed the tapes) has been able to be restored through what's been found lying around in basements, foreign TV station back closets, censor edits, photos, and fans' tape-recorded soundtracks. So many episodes have been put back together piecemeal. It's so neat when that works. I wish that man in the article well.

Good on everybody supporting Kodak! I love that statement from the Film Foundation in the article. It's very well put. I like that "everything we do in HD is an effort to recreate the look of film." Aesthetically, there's no substitute for film.
I love my digital camera, but I miss working in print. There's a quality and a richness that just isn't there. Maybe I'll go back to film someday.

I can't even bear to think that Scorsese is right and that half of all film before 1950 is gone forever. That'll teach me for urging my parents and the SO to THROW THAT SHIT AWAY. :-D
You just never know.
Which I guess is the mantra of all hoarders.

Josh -- I seem to remember that you get much less if we buy your audiobooks using Whispersync. Is that correct? And if so, is that because you made your audiobooks yourself, or are authors always paid less for audiobooks bought that way?

Come Unto These Yellow Sands is £2.99! So is Fair Game.
Needless to say I already have all of these, but if you've been waiting to get them have a lovely audio weekend!

What happens is I get my percentage of earnings based on net, so when Audible drops the price of the audio book in promotion (as when they match it to the ebook through whispersynch), I get my 50% of 2.99 (or whatever) versus my 50% of 13.99. And that's a significant difference.
Their reasoning is I will sell more ebooks and audio books this way, and I guess if my ebooks were priced at $9.99 - $14.99 there would be some validity (because that's really the model this is based on -- mainstream pricing). But my ebooks are priced low to start with and I am paying for the audio productions up front, so this is not a good financial model for someone like me.
That said, it is what it is, and there is no reason my loyal readers should be missing out on the same perks that readers who don't know me get, so I say you do whatever makes sense for you.
I mean that.

I've used my librarian fu to add the audiobook, since I'm a stickler for having the right edition for tracking on here!
