I just started Greenwode this morning and so far, I'm loving it. The narrator is fantastic and does these great accents. Again with the accents, I know, I know. But I do love them so much!
I'm so exhausted after being up late last night, I'm likely going to listen to this on my lunch break. Can't wait!

I absolutely loved, loved the audio versions of Greenwode and Shirewode, I'm still thinking about them weeks after... Glad you're liking them too!! I hope J. Tullos Hennig writes more.
These are, for me, the pick of the DSP crop.

I like the covers too!
I hadn't realized they were DSP. I don't think I've read a DSP book in awhile! lol.
I bought the first one as a test to see if I would like it before getting both. I have a feeling I might be getting the second one sooner than originally planned. :-)

I know, they don't seem like DSP books. And you're right, very nice covers.

:D
A Ghost of a Chance! I re-read this not so long ago (within the past year), but I'm really enjoying it again. It is so well read!
P.S. Can the audiobook be set up on GR as another edition?

Tis a curse, but a profitable one. :) Take cursed lemons and make them into cursed-lemonade---that's what Grandma always said.

Thank you, dear!
I've been listening to A Ghost of a Chance today and I absolutely love it. Kevin R. Free is the best narrator to bring out the smart, witty, sarcastic tone in Josh's writing. Some of the dialog between Rhys and Sam is killing me — it's hilarious. Kevin gets the atmosphere just right! And Kevin's Sam is deliciously husky and sexy. :-) I LOVE THIS!

You really make me curious! I don't know the story yet... I should change that, immediately. =D

"I increasingly consider leaving them out all together. This probab..."
Josh -- I did wonder whether the heart of the problem is that someone you know (to the extent that you get to know your narrators) is reading the scenes, and you may have to actually talk to him about it if you hear him do something you don't like from the quality control point of view. It puts a face to the anonymous reader.
Nicole put it best of all in urging you not to cut them out all together: "... you put too much characterization into scenes of sexual intimacy to eliminate them without impairing the book's structure".

I'm so happy I made you curious, Tharayn! :-) I finished listening to A Ghost of a Chance last night and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I like how the story is, at the same time, a ghost story and a story about an encounter of two men who seem to be very different in so many ways. It's fun to witness the possibility of a budding, unlikely relationship between this couple. The tone of the story (and narration!) switches nicely from delightful to spooky and back. A great novella that somehow hasn't had as much stage time (here in our group and maybe elsewhere too) that it should have had, IMO.

James Thurber's short story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is FREE on Audible.com and Audible.co.uk. I highly recommend this 15 minutes long audio book narrated by Ben Stiller. Such a tiny, great, fun treat!

I think the technical aspect of it is part of it. I will say I'm probably a pretty good author to work with in that I really don't interfere. The only times I intervene is if a word is missed or mispronounced. And even then, I only jump in if it changes meaning.
For example, I hit my hand against the elevator wall and I hit my HEAD against the elevator wall...sends a very different message. :-D
Basically, I figure if I hired this person, I have to trust them to do their thing. The more I try to direct and intercede, the more nervous and stiff the narrator gets, so it's better to let them be their own artists.
Speaking of which, I heard the first 15 of Snowball in Hell by Alexander J Masters, and it is SO good. :-D

This month has been a happy happy time in Josh-land (or Lanyon-land?). : ) Stranger on the Shore is just wonderful, and we've had two new audiobooks to enjoy, Don't Look Back and A Ghost of a Chance. I finished listening to that this morning. What Johanna said. : )

Oooooh! Snowball in Hell in audio? Sweetness!
That also sounds like a good idea, letting the narrator have mostly free reign to get creative.
There are a lot of words that people mispronounce without even knowing it. I have a friend who pronounces "khaki" like "cocky". Definitely not the same thing. :-)

Snowball in Hell in audio is excellent news!!! Can't wait.
I'm planning to listen to Ghost of a Chance this week. That's one I haven't read yet. :)

In England we pronounce it "car-key", and I have to laugh when I hear it pronounced "ca-key", with the "ca" to rhyme with "cat", in audiobooks narrated by Americans. But it's a word borrowed by the English from Urdu, so who knows how the original word was pronounced.
My reading/written vocabulary is much larger than my spoken one, so I'm sure I pronounce a lot of words incorrectly. Certainly I'm surprised by some pronunciations in audiobooks.
I am very much enjoying Ghost of a Chance, and look forward to Snowball in Hell.

Huh. That's interesting that you pronounce it like that. There's no "r" in there! lol.
That bugs me a lot here. Where I come from originally, in New York State, we pronounce our R's. but here in New England, things with an "r" get pronounced with an "h" instead. Drives me nuts.
I just wish everything was pronounced how it was spelled. lol.

lol, so it's sorta like cocky, but with an "ah" in there. That sounds like how my friend pronounces it. So maybe that's where she got the pronunciation from!

I struggle with the mispronunciations. At first I made everyone go back and pronounce everything as it should be, but now if it is a common enough mispronunciation I tend to leave it.
Meaning if the only mistake in a file is a common mispronunciation, I won't make them go back and fix it. But if there are other errors, then they're going back anyway, they can fix that too.

Try figuring out Gaelic pronunciations! And old Gaelic is even crazier. I have an old Gaelic dictionary from the 1920s and there are about a million extra vowels in every word.
My dad used to say the English spelling of Gaelic was a sassenach plot to kill off the language. ;-)

I wouldn't be surprised. The English tried pretty hard to kill it off in other ways as well.

Gaelic is pretty difficult. I was reading the Táin once and tried, as a lark, to say all the names in it. That was not happening! But I think Welsh is even worse. I know that their spelling is difficult on purpose... something about them making it hard so that the English couldn't read their correspondence during times of war.

Good luck. I have self discipline and would totally binge!

Did you buy 4 audiobooks priced $14.95 or more in April? That would give you a $10 coupon

It's really good, there are two narrators, a male for Tyen's story and a woman for Rielle's, both doing a great job, highly recommended to fantasy fans (it has a touch of steampunk, but it's small)

Just bought Skin Game on audio, the latest Harry Dresden by Jim Butcher. I'll listen to that after Dirty Secret, book 2 of the Cole McGinnis series. The Dresden files has switched to 100% audio for me. I had the paperbacks and then got the audiobooks. Now I buy new on audio. I do not have the books in e-book form yet, and I may just leave is as is.
