Susinok | 5205 comments Listening to Dusty Springfield's Son of a Preacher Man. Someone left the TV on American Movie Classic in the breakroom yesterday and Pulp Fiction was on. That caused this song to lodge itself in my head. I did turn the tv to a different channel. Pulp Fiction is not very work friendly, hehe.

Gotta say, I finished listening to A Dangerous Thing for the third time the other day. Fantastic audio book. And I love the sweet scenes, where you can tell they care a lot about each other but won't admit to anything. Also the sex scenes (mentioned just for Josh's benefit, here. lol) were very well read. Like, OMG well read by the narrator.

The narrator for Daughter of Smoke and Bone is superb. She can do all these crazy voices and accents. Just for that alone, I'm enjoying the book. I finally got to the third CD last night. Hopefully I'll get to more of it soon.

You're welcome! Here is another one from him that I found yesterday and that I like a lot. It's a cover version of Lana Del Rey's Ride. I, too, find his voice very enjoyable to listen to — somehow really sexy. :-)

Becky Black (beckyblack) I was rummaging in a rarely opened drawer of cassette tapes - yes, I still have some - and found a couple of old books on tape. Since I'm well into audiobooks right now I'm hoping they still work. Especially the one of The Valley of Fear, which is narrated by Sir Christopher Lee! Awesome. Will give them a try soon. Yes, I still have a tape player. :D

Nice! You're not the only one. I've got a tape player and a lot of cassettes, though I don't listen to it much, except for audio books at night if I can't sleep. Hopefully I'll dig out The Odyssey read by Ian McKellen this summer to read along to as I chose that for one of my summer reading books. Can't wait!

I still have my The Velveteen Rabbit cassette narrated by Meryl Streep. I absolutely love it.

I've got all but one Harry Potter now and a few Redwall books, narrated by the author himself. And The Odyssey. I think that's it for audios on cassette.

I have two on CD, but I can't remember the titles, because I picked them up at random. One, is a telling of a specific battle with George Washington. (I was in a historical mood when I picked it up. otherwise I would have ignored it, since it's plain historical and has no romance or anything else to keep me interested. Still in my historical mood, so I'm thinking I might listen to this one after I finish Daughter of Smoke and Bone.)

And then I have one of the books by Kathy Reichs who's novels inspired the TV show Bones. I didn't like the show too much, as it's too much like every other CSI show out there. Person solves crimes and falls for her coworker at the same time. Blah. But the original books are fantastic. And Kathy knows what she's talking about so it's relatively realistic too. I read the third one awhile ago, not realizing it was part of a series or anything and really enjoyed it. So, a free audio came into my possession, we'll see if it's just as good. I don't plan to read the whole series, but this way totally works. lol.

I'd heard the song, but had no idea about the video. Nice/cool, exactly. Thanks for sharing.

YouTube is a dangerous place. Here's one of the songs/videos pitched on the same page as Young Love. It's coming from a completely different place, although I suppose the YouTube correlation is "gay." I'm embarrassed to find it so funny. Forewarning: The title is "I Like Your Bubble."

All-American Boy went viral on YouTube last summer. If I remember, the video was funded with gifts and by maxing out his credit cards. Meanwhile he has done some amazing fundraising on Kickstarter. He is currently running a campaign to fund his first album. There are three videos on his website. He has media smarts, a sweet voice, and has struck a chord with fans.

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments I finished listening to Night Broken by Patricia Briggs which was pretty good. I just started Written in Red by Anne Bishop.

As for music I've been listening to an interesting mix of Eva Cassidy, Brandi Carlile, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Pierce the Veil, & Fall Out Boy.

A few from Brandi Carlile:

Turpentine
Heart's Content
Dreams
Hallelujah

Oh good. I was just thinking about that. Well, there are a few of his I don't own yet. Been debating whether I should get DG 5 or not. I haven't read it, so I'm thinking I should. But I also already own Darkling Thrush in audio which I haven't read or listened to yet.

The big question is, what will I listen to on my train ride this Saturday morning when I'm too sleepy to understand anything?

Audio books are great when I can't initially fall asleep. But like last weekend when I woke up at 3am wide awake, I picked up my Kindle and started rereading the last Rifter book. Because sometimes you just need to be a little bit more active for awhile.

And yeah, I wish I was still reading the Rifter. lol. I miss John and Kyle, very, very much.

In fact, I taped a quote to my computer monitor at work which reads:

"So long as you're living, never give up." -Jath'ibaye

Can we get The Rifter in audio? I'd buy it in a second. Seriously. This NEEDS to get done. Like, ASAP.

I'm all for that! Wonder if this would be a good Kickstarter proposition *hints* don't know how we get authors inboard with putting in the investment it takes for an audiobook?

Don't know if there is enough return for them to do it..seems like Josh indicated it takes quite a bit...and the wrong narrator could ruin an exllent story!
