Anne | 6816 comments I went to the opera yesterday, and watched and listened to La Boheme. A somewhat disjointed production, but the music and the arias are divine. I still feel like my brain is immersed in the music :)

Found a charming, relatively new (2013) Petula Clark (!!!) song today:

Cut Copy Me by Petula Clark

I really fell for this. I mean, this lady is 80 years old! :-)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I just finished Widdershins and decided to go right into a sci fi horror/thriller... In Darkness Bound.. I like Jack LeFleur's voice ;)

message 1559: by Idamus (new)

Idamus Hey guys, has anyone encountered audiobooks on Audible saying they were whispersync ready, but the matching ebook on Amazon wasn't? 'Cause, suddenly that's all I find

Wow. I really thought this video was creative! And her voice has a haunting quality to it here.... Thank you for sharing Johanna.

Whoa! That computer is a dual floppy drive! I haven't seen one of those since 1988!

I like the song, too. :)

Wow...her voice still sounds really good. I can't believe she's in her 80s! (and I'm still 29. *wink*)

Becky Black (beckyblack) Just started the Kick Start audiobook - at breakfast time this morning. More fun than listening to the radio. :D

I was just thinking nostalgically about some of the books I used to listen to from the Podiobooks website.
http://podiobooks.com/
All free too. :D
There is some good stuff on there, so if you're ever stuck for audiobooks and short on cash check it out. My favourites were Nathan Lowell's Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series. He narrates himself and is excellent. Oh and the 7th Son series by J.C. Hutchins was massive amounts of fun.

Ah, nostalgia!

Just replying to myself to make it clearer what I'm refering to

I've had a lovely chat with Amazon, about the books/audios in question, and apparently they were not whispersync ready, they couldn't say why it said so for me, but they didn't when they looked at the books
In other words, I'm still slightly confused :p

message 1567: by Mtsnow13 (last edited Feb 21, 2014 02:10PM) (new)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments Usually, if something is Whispersync capable, I look on the Amazon site, and below the book blurb there is a box that let's you know that if you purchase the book first, you may purchase the Audible equivalent at a discount (and then the discount price is listed), and vice versa on the Audible site. Are you not seeing that on either end?

message 1568: by Mtsnow13 (new)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments If you are able to give them print screens of what you are seeing, their IT dept. should be able to track down the disconnect...or honor whatever claims one site says over the other, if that makes sense?

I'm seeing it on one end, but not the the other, and they couldn't tell me why because they didn't see it, oh well, I bought something else

Or I see it on both ends, but still no audio offer

Becky Black (beckyblack) Well, I have started the audiobook of The Stand. So I won't be in a rush for more audiobooks for a while... Expect to see that on my Currently Reading for weeks!

And I listened to the Breakfast at Tiffany's audio read by Micheal C Hall on Sunday - it's under 3 hours long, so practically bite size. Loved it. More so than when I read it I think.

Heh, it was playing it on my tablet and at one point I had it paused and was pottering around doing stuff when it spontaneously restarted itself. There's no fright quite like suddenly having Dexter Morgan's voice come out of nowhere when you're all alone in the house. Nearly jumped out of my skin.

Anne | 6816 comments I have just started listening to The Dickens With Love which I originally had planned to do during Christmas. But it is delightful also in February, listening to descriptions of ozelots and gold flecked cocktails while knitting doll's clothes to my smallest niece's doll, as a present for her third year's birthday in March. Such simple joys :)

My TV does that if it's muted for too long, and it doesn't half make me jump when it suddenly comes on again.

message 1598: by K.Z. (new)

K.Z. Snow (kzsnow) | 1606 comments I've been getting into my very first audiobook (which happens to be Josh's The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks), and I've noticed how very different listening to a book is from reading a book -- for me, anyway. I have to pay closer attention and make a concentrated effort not to let my mind wander.

Has that happened to any of the rest of you? I suspect I'll get "better" at this the more I do it, but right now I'm so used to visible words anchoring my focus, it tends to drift!

This may or may not help, but when I listen to audio books, I have to be either playing on my Nintendo 3DS, putting together a jigsaw puzzle, cleaning, jogging/walking, or cross-stitching. I have to be doing something else at the same time or my mind wanders like crazy.
