I bought The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connolly, Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier, both books I've read and liked, and then a new to me author John Ringo Ghost: Paladin of Shadows
I saved over $70 on that

I know! I had the same kind of reaction! ;-)

I think Bob Mayer wrote some books with Jennifer Crusie, if you like her. I've listened to some of her books on audio and really enjoyed them, e.g. Welcome To Temptation and its sequel, and Getting Rid of Bradley and especially Charlie All Night.

I'll put them in the wishlist for next time I shop audios

I should have added that they're m/f romances, and amusing/funny.

Sadly no libraries, or bookstores have m/m here, and only a very little bit of sci-fi
But I buy because I want to keep the stuff, not just do one listen/read through :D

Eh, maybe not then, I'm an m/m girl :)

I understand but I go through a minimum of five audio books a week, listening while I work. I could never afford that but you can just take them out and listen as much as you want. I download into itunes and then transfer to my ipod, I don't keep them in itunes but you don't have to take them off. If I want to listen again I'll just borrow and download again. Almost all of my m/m are from audible but I've found a few at my library.

We all have different needs :-)

This is a good tip, especially if you listen to as many audiobooks as Denise. My library has lots of audiobooks on CD (many more than when I used to commute and needed them badly, in the days before the Audible alternative) but it does charge for them (it's still much cheaper than buying them).
It also has some available to download, although having just looked through them I already have the very few which I would have wanted to listen to (only about 10). And I didn't see any m/m. It has 50 romance titles, but not ones I like, and 20 historical novels, ditto. I'm sure the last time I looked they were some weird automated read aloud but now they are the actual narrated versions.

My small local library has a decent selection of audiobooks through a consortium that uses Overdrive. No m/m though. I used to pay a small out of state annual fee -- I think it was $25 or $35 - for access to the Free Library of Philadelphia online collection (e-books and audiobooks), but I stopped once I started reading mostly m/m since they didn't have many.

Lol. That's what I've been doing before I 'waste' money. I check my library first. They have a pretty good selection, but the ones I decided to purchase, they did not have. And I still need to figure out how to get them to purchase any m/m stories...best possibilities is to start with YA fantasy, with gay protagonists, so far....

Nice because you can see the ratings, as well.

So does anyone remember this?
Because I want to buy Stranger things have happened plus there are those leather boots I just HAVE TO buy.... so I have to find a wsy to save money ;)

Send them a mail to say you want the audiblelistener light, it's $9.95 for a year, you don't get any credits, and I think you get 20% off, but I'm not sure about that
There's a send us an email on the bottom of this page

The key is to know the price of each credit you have (around 11.35 US) and shop/buy accordingly.
One way to get MM in your library is to send them and email, if they have one for public use. If you can talk to the person in charge of Collection Development, that works too. Give them a list of authors you'd like to see and in what formats. If you get an awesome person who wants to add MM but doesn't know where to start, they may even let you suggest more titles in the future. But this all depends on how small your library is.
My library is huge. We have a large central library and over 20 smaller branches, so we don't work that way. On our online catalog there is a "suggest a purchase" button that gives you a little form to fill out with the item's information along with your library card information. The library will determine whether or not to purchase the item based on many factors but one of them is whether or not they think the item will be popular. If they buy it, the item automatically gets put on hold for you when it comes in.
The thing that sucks is that if they don't order your item, they don't tell you. There is no communication about it at all for patrons. Unless you specifically know the person doing the book ordering.
I'm just grateful that the person who chooses our romance books also likes MM and will try to include those when she can, but I think they get put in a special cart and therefore aren't ordered as frequently as I'd like.

My goodness. I had to buy an tape player on eBay just so I could listen to some old audiobooks I also bought on eBay, of books I love which weren't on Audible. I haven't had a tape player in a car for some years. Your library is more than one generation behind - CDs are considered old-fashioned by some now!
Next thing is they'll be saying "there's no demand for audiobooks" and they won't even hold the tapes...
My library only recently got rid of our VHS tapes, but a lot of Children's librarians kept some because they're still used, at least to show the kids as library programming. And we still take them as donations too. Usually they're sold at the library book sale. They don't get put into our circulating collections.

Thanks for the link!
Also, if you already own a lot of Kindle books you can use this link to see which have audiobooks available and how much they cost.

I loved tapes! I was still actively listening to tapes until the early 2000s. I find it quite funny that my car, a 2004 model, has a tape player in it. It's great because I've been listening to all my old tapes once more in the car before I send them off to a new home. Oh the nostalgia! Listening to music I loved in 1995 is a hoot! And yes, I'm still a fan of CDs. However, I do now listen to my Ipod in the car. Pretty good, eh? :D
No one would ever mistake me for someone that is up with the times. :)

Ha. I still love my CDs. Just ordered three new ones, in fact. And I still have all of my old cassettes too. I don't break away from old tech easily. I've got all the old VHS tapes too, and still watch them on occasion. But, I'm strange like that. lol. And I find it's easier to set up my TV to tape things via VHS than to attempt anything on a newer TV, so as long as my TV/VCR combo continues to work, I'll continue to use it. Besides, much as I really want a larger screen, I don't have room for it between my bookcases!

I agree with you! I also find it easy to rewind a little and replay e.g. a sentence I didn't quite hear on videotape rather than on DVD. I was merely surprised that there was a library which was persisting in lending cassette tapes, because one reason I've been able to buy many of my favourites was because the libraries have sold their cassette books.

Ah, kindred spirits. Hooray for old tech! :)
