It doesn't sound normal to me! How can the price go up after you click the buy button?!

Jordan- I just did the promo 3 months, then decided to stop the membership, but I had to call in to do that. They have different promotions all the time. They were real accommodating on the phone and basically talked me into doing the 'AudibleListener Light' membership for $9.95 re year. No monthly membership fee.
I receive emails on deeply discounted books-of-the-day, and I can see many times that it is MUCH less expensive to purchase the Kindle book first, then get the audiobook for prices as low as $1.99. I do not receive the 1 per month credit, but I was starting to have problems finding anything I wanted after the Holidays... Now I'm just awaiting new releases.
When one of my 'Free' codes didn't work, they just put an amount above and beyond the original credit in my account, and I was able to make my purchase. I have been very happy with audible... Even more so because I can read the reviews on the narrators, and hear samples.
It has worked out well for me,and I was able to benefit from their 40% off sale at Christmas..

Thank you for mentioning this. I'm going to look into it. I have trouble spending my credits since it's usually cheaper to buy without using them, especially with the whispersync deals. Plus I have a bunch of audiobooks that I haven't had time to listen to yet.

Mostly it's about the fact that these people don't know Jake. Which kills me. The further I get in AE, the more I love Jake. LOVE Jake. I knew I did before, but the audio books are just making it more so.

Yep. Narrator KNOWS Jake. No doubt about that. :-)

Thanks ladies! I just called to switched to this plan. It was $9.95 for the year. It makes me a member of Audible without the monthly deductions. This is great. I should have done this earlier, but now I have all of Josh's audio books. *sigh* My credit card can rest awhile. =D
Thanks for passing on the info!

When my last half price credit is used, I'm going to switch to this one as well, I have one left, then it'll be sales only for me
But 2 sign-up freebies and 6 credits at half price was too good to say no to :p

Currently listening to DOAPK - and not loving Jake at the moment!
Just finished Dark Tide. I have nothing to say except that I thought the second one or DOAPK would be my favorite. Not any more. This was awesome. Pure awesomeness on so many levels. The audio just brings everything alive!

I agree. I had some trouble figuring out Griff and Dante myself. But in other books he did the voices were distinct. I just finished The Nothingness of Ben which he narrated and the voices were very different.

I'm all in favor of letting credit cards rest ;-).
Can you explain to me what are the *monthly deductions*? And *the year* means 2014 or one year from the moment you join?

Monthly deduction gives you 1 credit to use on any book, it's $14.99, even if the book is $25, whether you choose that or the $9.95 for a year, your membership begins on the day you sign up
(there are more plans than that, and I think you need to contact Audible via mail or phone to get the 9.95 one, unless you have one of they big plans)

Must edit a previous comment. Moth, the fairy, is from A Mid-Summer Night's Dream. Not The Tempest. Ariel, from The Tempest, was a major character in this book as well.

That is one of the key things I listen for in the audio -- differentiation between the main characters. In the end, I think it's one of the single most important factor to the reader being able to get lost in the story.
That would have been commissioned by Dreamspinner. Their audio efforts are pretty hit and miss.

I agree. Sample, sample, sample! But the audiobooks are getting better. They have caught on, I think. I've just listened to Sinner's Gin and now Whiskey and Wry. Both excellent narrations. Some of the best.

Oh yes! It's right where the ebooks were before the flood. You can tell by the number of narrators piling into ACX and the number of audio books being produced. When people say things like, "Oh, I just can't get into audio," you have to smile because they are an echo of the "Oh, I just can't get into ebooks."
I'm right on the cusp of having sold ten thousand audio books since I began commissioning them. I should hit 10K this month. That's just incredible given the market when I first began this endeavor.

I think it's some deal between ACX/Audible and the publisher. Same thing with Carina. The books are farmed out and you're not getting any real quality control. It's hit or miss, and when it's a hit, it's great! And when it's a miss (Noel pronounced NOELLE in Icecapade, for example) it's unlistenable.

That's great. Congratulations! But since they are ALL brilliant books with great narrators you've chosen for them, that's just the beginning of it. It's so nice to hear your investments are paying off, Josh. :-)

Congratulations! That's amazing, but it's no more than you deserve given the quality of your audiobooks. And I think you may be responsible for quite a few people discovering the joy of audiobooks.

I've decided I AM going to get Rhys's Sinner books. Looks like DSP is finally starting to think a little more about their narrator choices. Here's hoping they continue..I've made the mistake of buying an audiobook that had rave reviews on GR, just to find I couldn't get past the first few chapters...ugh. Ruined it for me. Even the samples have led me astray once in awhile, so I also look at the star ratings that readers put on the narrator..
I know it is pretty personal as far as 'voice' but this has been starting to work for me. Thanks for the heads up on the Sinner books, Susinok! I loved reading them, so will look forward to listening, as well..(have to finish my 3 Josh series first though) ;)
Thank you Josh for the quality work, and taking the time AND investment to select great narrators. AND so glad it is paying off for you!!

Yes. Definitely yes. I wouldn't be looking for more digital audio books if it weren't for Josh!

I love the audio for Icecapade! True, having Noel pronounced Noelle was a bit off, but that really was the only "miss" with that audio, imo. The narrator is fantastic, such an amazing voice, I think he did a wonderful job with it :-)

I'll just join the line of congratulations, well deserved. And soon we can celebrate the next ten thousand!

The Sinner books are VERY well done. I love them both. I hope they can find someone who can pronounce Korean to do the Dirty Kiss series.

I think that's changing. I know Rhys Ford worked with her narrator for the Sinner's Gin series. She talked about it either on her blog or Facebook.

Me too. Sometimes repetitions are ok ;-).

That's how I'd use it. And I believe how Jake used it :-)"
Me too.
It's making me sad, and annoyed, that there's only an hour left of the audio book. Less than an hour! My life will end when I get home tonight! GAH! lol. I can't bear to part with it.
Which reminds me of a quote I pulled last night from a YA book I'm currently reading:
"I don't wanna diiiiiie!" Moth wailed into Bertie's ear like a tiny, demented ambulance siren.
Keep in mind, Moth is the tiny fairy from The Tempest. Imagining his size, makes it all the more funny, I think. Plus, I love the description used here.
