Me too.

It's making me sad, and annoyed, that there's only an hour left of the audio book. Less than an hour! My life will end when I get home tonight! GAH! lol. I can't bear to part with it.

Which reminds me of a quote I pulled last night from a YA book I'm currently reading:
"I don't wanna diiiiiie!" Moth wailed into Bertie's ear like a tiny, demented ambulance siren.

Keep in mind, Moth is the tiny fairy from The Tempest. Imagining his size, makes it all the more funny, I think. Plus, I love the description used here.

Jordan- I just did the promo 3 months, then decided to stop the membership, but I had to call in to do that. They have different promotions all the time. They were real accommodating on the phone and basically talked me into doing the 'AudibleListener Light' membership for $9.95 re year. No monthly membership fee.

I receive emails on deeply discounted books-of-the-day, and I can see many times that it is MUCH less expensive to purchase the Kindle book first, then get the audiobook for prices as low as $1.99. I do not receive the 1 per month credit, but I was starting to have problems finding anything I wanted after the Holidays... Now I'm just awaiting new releases.

When one of my 'Free' codes didn't work, they just put an amount above and beyond the original credit in my account, and I was able to make my purchase. I have been very happy with audible... Even more so because I can read the reviews on the narrators, and hear samples.

It has worked out well for me,and I was able to benefit from their 40% off sale at Christmas..

Thank you for mentioning this. I'm going to look into it. I have trouble spending my credits since it's usually cheaper to buy without using them, especially with the whispersync deals. Plus I have a bunch of audiobooks that I haven't had time to listen to yet.

Mostly it's about the fact that these people don't know Jake. Which kills me. The further I get in AE, the more I love Jake. LOVE Jake. I knew I did before, but the audio books are just making it more so.

That's interesting! I didn't see that listed when I was on the site the other day. I'll check on that.

message 1362: by HJ (new)

HJ | 3603 comments I should explain that when I talk about the prices looking odd in Audible I'm only referring to the figures which show on the page you get to when you "view basket" - the price you ultimately pay does not increase, they just do a really confusing thing of showing the original full price (I assume for some accounting reason of their own). If you click on "next step" you get to the checkout page which shows the correct, reduced prices.

It's just confusing and somewhat scary when the prices for what's in your basket appear to be reverting to the pre-reduction amount!

Ame | 1744 comments I've been listening to HotHeads... it was at a discount in December. And while I love the story and the narrator who's got a really lovely voice to listen to, I wish he'd made more distinct voices for Griff and Dante. I sometimes found it really difficult to get who was who in conversations between the two of them. So I think I prefer the book to the audio.... despite the narrators lovely voice.

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments I just finished The Rosie Project (m/f) which I really enjoyed. It was funny and touching, and it's cheap if you buy the Kindle version for $1.99. ;-)

I agree. I had some trouble figuring out Griff and Dante myself. But in other books he did the voices were distinct. I just finished The Nothingness of Ben which he narrated and the voices were very different.

I'm all in favor of letting credit cards rest ;-).

message 1370: by Mtsnow13 (new)

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I think no monthly charge is what is meant by deductions. And yes, it's 1 year from the date you change to the annual plan. Also, they allow you to keep any credits you currently have on your account.

Monthly deduction gives you 1 credit to use on any book, it's $14.99, even if the book is $25, whether you choose that or the $9.95 for a year, your membership begins on the day you sign up
(there are more plans than that, and I think you need to contact Audible via mail or phone to get the 9.95 one, unless you have one of they big plans)

message 1372: by Reggie (new)

Reggie This way I can take advantage of the whispersync deals and some of their specials. I no longer have to buy a book token every month. It was charged to my credit card each month. I might get a Netflix account instead. ;)

That is one of the key things I listen for in the audio -- differentiation between the main characters. In the end, I think it's one of the single most important factor to the reader being able to get lost in the story.

That would have been commissioned by Dreamspinner. Their audio efforts are pretty hit and miss.

Oh yes! It's right where the ebooks were before the flood. You can tell by the number of narrators piling into ACX and the number of audio books being produced. When people say things like, "Oh, I just can't get into audio," you have to smile because they are an echo of the "Oh, I just can't get into ebooks."

I'm right on the cusp of having sold ten thousand audio books since I began commissioning them. I should hit 10K this month. That's just incredible given the market when I first began this endeavor.

I think it's some deal between ACX/Audible and the publisher. Same thing with Carina. The books are farmed out and you're not getting any real quality control. It's hit or miss, and when it's a hit, it's great! And when it's a miss (Noel pronounced NOELLE in Icecapade, for example) it's unlistenable.

I've decided I AM going to get Rhys's Sinner books. Looks like DSP is finally starting to think a little more about their narrator choices. Here's hoping they continue..I've made the mistake of buying an audiobook that had rave reviews on GR, just to find I couldn't get past the first few chapters...ugh. Ruined it for me. Even the samples have led me astray once in awhile, so I also look at the star ratings that readers put on the narrator..

I know it is pretty personal as far as 'voice' but this has been starting to work for me. Thanks for the heads up on the Sinner books, Susinok! I loved reading them, so will look forward to listening, as well..(have to finish my 3 Josh series first though) ;)

Thank you Josh for the quality work, and taking the time AND investment to select great narrators. AND so glad it is paying off for you!!

I love the audio for Icecapade! True, having Noel pronounced Noelle was a bit off, but that really was the only "miss" with that audio, imo. The narrator is fantastic, such an amazing voice, I think he did a wonderful job with it :-)
