I only have four more audio books to go before I run out of what's on my phone. I've got one book on CD, and one on cassette, but I can't really listen to them on my walk home. Not unless I get out my portable CD player which isn't in the best shape these days.

But I was thinking the best way to get through more YA books for work would be to download the digital audio and listen to them on my way to and from work. I bet that would be fun. So, I'm going to look into that in a few weeks once all my current YA novels are read and the audio books are listened to. If I borrow them from the library I won't have to pay since audio books are expensive and these I won't want to keep, I don't think.

We'll see.

Yes, I was thinking it will be great for when I fancy something short but complete for half an hour or an hour, rather than a couple of favourite chapters from a novel.

I know for YA books, I LOVED listening to them as I was doing my daily activities, etc. Does your library have many books to choose from that are LGBT? Or do you have a certain YA genre that you are looking at going through? I know I particularly enjoy YA fantasy.. Have you listened to Fire? I enjoyed Graceling, but didn't have it in audiobook...

I started with audiobooks from the library specifically because they were free to check out, and as soon as you download them to your device you basically have them forever :)

I went through my YA to-read shelf yesterday and checked to see what we have in audio. Not all of them, but a fair number.

I currently have the Graceling print book checked out. I've been meaning to read it for years. But then recalled that I'm still in the middle of the Shiver trilogy and the Theater Illuminata trilogy and I should finish those before moving on to Graceling.

We have Linger in audio and I have Forever in print so I might do that Trilogy that way since no one's shelved the Linger book recently, or I'll have to hunt it down in circulation on Tuesday. We'll see

Basically, I've got a lot of books in many genres to pick from. But viewing that I'm kinda sick of mm at the moment, I didn't look for any of the YA LGBTQ books in audio that are on my to-read list. But there will come a time when i will check to see what we have in digital audio.

Kick Start is now available on Audible. That was a very fast turn around on the part of ACX and Audible!

That WAS a quick turnaround! And what I like to see, as so many audiobooks typically seem to come out way after the print book, and I'm not known for my patience :) But sometimes, with good narrators, as is the case of your stories, Josh, I like to have them in both audio AND print.

Becky Black (beckyblack) Weird. I'm listening to In Sunshine Or In Shadow audiobook, and I come to the eponymous story that gives the collection its title. And listening to it I'm quite certain I've read it - that bus tour thing is pretty memorable and I knew what the ending was going to be. But I don't have it recorded here on Goodreads as read. I can't find it on my Kindle library or side loaded on the Kindle itself, or in the folder where I have ebooks from places other than Amazon. So where and how did I read it? Was it up online to read at any point? ::my brain hurts::

If you didn't read it digitally, Becky, it's in Josh's print collection, Collected Novellas, Vol I.

Becky Black (beckyblack) That's it! I have that - it was my first Josh book in fact. One of my first m/m books too.

I thought of that at first then thought "Can't be, it's not really a novella is it? Too short to be that." Of course, there it is. :D

Perhaps the book should have been entitled, Collected Novellas & Short Stories Vol. I. :-)

The ending to Sunshine is my favorite ending. Period. Love that story. In the end, everything's going to be alright.

And just when I thought I'd run out of audio books Josh gives us another gem. Woot!

I love crocheting baby blankets! They are fairly quick, and have such beautiful yarns with lovely textures and colors, and are usually treasured by those little ones, for a little while at least :)

And that's another reason I enjoy audiobooks so much! I usually receive more pleasure from listening to a good book than watching T.V.

I used to only listen to books to help me fall asleep. No more. I found myself laughing (as I have lately) last night on my walk home while listening to Dark Tide. I love the idea that no one else on the street knows why I'm laughing and making all these faces. You know, in 30 degree weather and my hands tucked into my pockets, it's hard to show emotion over something that's happening except by facial expressions, when you just have to get your anxiety out or whatever.

And it's awesome being crafty while listening as well! I agree!

message 1321: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments Thanks to Dead Run and other audiobooks I'm halfway through my baby blanket, and I've only been working on it one week! I plan to maybe make it a bit bigger since I'm way under the deadline (July).

Yes, it's a deadline, not a due date, heheh. I just don't think in maternal terms.

O.O yikes indeed

I'm currently alternating between your audios and Abigail Roux', now, if Jordan would put her PsyCop series out as audiobooks, I think I would be in Heaven (and I'm an atheist, so that would be quite an achievement)

They'd be so perfect. With the right narrator of course. First person, which I think works so well for audiobooks. Feels so natural.

Eve (evieeve) | 701 comments I'm late to the audiobook party, am going through the AE books - they have vastly improved my daily commute (though can't listen in the car as afraid hubby would crash the car during romantic scenes :-P), but they are perfect for the walking part.

Just a quick question though - I usually bought mine from UK iTunes, but after I got a corrupted file with ADT (which Apple refunded), I switched to Audible sometimes, but found their prices higher, even more so AFTER I clicked the buy button, the price will go up $2-3, is this normal?

Sorry if this has been answered before.

I'm a member over at audible, both the US and the UK version, so I pay with credits (currently $7.49 & £3.99), or books on sale, but I haven't noticed any price changes on the ones I buy on sale

By the way, I highly recommend being a member, if you're not already, 30% off on everything)

Audible is a bit confusing in how they show their prices in the cart. If you are a member, you will get the 30% off price, but when it is in your cart, the full price shows, along with what you are charged. There is a Price column and a "you pay" column which shows the discounted or sales price. Check your total, though. It should reflect the correct price.

Listening to Dark Tide while washing dishes and had to stop to do many squees and happy dances at Jake's overtures to Adrien. OMG he's fricken adorable. Even more so in audio than in print, if that's possible.

HJ | 3603 comments Jordan wrote: "Do you still sign in with your Amazon account if you're a member?

Yes.

The pricing is also confusing when Audible has a sale - the full price shows up in the cart, and the sale price only shows up in the next page after you click to proceed. That can be a little scary!

Also, watch out if you're buying sale books and want to pay cash rather than use your accumulated monthly credits (because the sale price is less than you paid for the credit). Their system automatically checks the "use credit" box if you have any credits; you have to uncheck it to pay cash.

Unlike Amazon, they don't have an option to sort search results by "price low to high", which is annoying when there are several versions of a book (e.g. because it's a classic and out of copyright). And always check that the book is unabridged! You can set this using a click box on the left of the screen or include "unabridged" when searching.

Antonella | 11565 comments I wanted to remember Claudio Abbado, who died yesterday, aged 80.

He wasn't only a great conductor, but very much engaged against cuts in cultural funding, supporting youth musicians and contemporary music and so on. BTW not only with words: he was nominated senator for life and renounced to the salary to found scholarships for musicians.

Listen to his legacy here:

Becky Black (beckyblack) Sad news, Antonella

Speaking of classical music, I recently rediscovered the Tchaikovsky violin concerto, which remember listening to loads when I was a student - many moons ago. It's fantastic. Maybe not pure perfection like the Beethoven and Brahms violin concertos, or as exquisite as Bruch concerto #1, but wow it's emotionally stirring.

Yeah, I checked into becoming a member, but I'm not interested in having my card automatically charged every month. I'm buying more audio books these days, true, but I'm not buying enough yet, to make it worth my while.

Don't be sad: the Swiss-Germans have two kinds of "uh-huh", one meaning ''yes'' and one meaning ''no''. One should be able to tell them apart just from the slightly different sound. Sometimes we make experiments with the neighbours' children: I never guess.
