That's exciting! I have them in print but haven't read them yet. If I like them enough in print, I'll definitely consider audio.

This is very true. It also allows you to relax in a way that reading print doesn't. You can close your eyes and really pay close attention to the narration, while nearly taking a nap. And I really enjoy being able to knit while listening to a book.

'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore and narrated by George Takei is available free on Audible: http://mobile.audible.com/?s_ref=%2Fp...
I found the one audio book I can actually listen without loosing the interest and the voice that suits the main character. Since the next Harry Dresden book will be released in May, I wanted to reread the series. I found the sample of the first book Storm Front, liked it and than downloaded the book. James Marsters does a great job - he is at the same time unassuming and on point.

Now I prefer listening to them to reading them.

I haven't read the stories, only listened to them as audio so it's a bit funny when I read about the books and don't recognise the characters because I only know how their names sound but not how they're written. :-D
I bought Storm Front as a paperback recently to see of I like the story as much in print as I did in audio.
Posting in both listening and watching threads....To share for those that received new Kindles, iPads, or Nooks for Christmas. There's a whole bunch of free ebooks, audiobooks, educational courses and movies on the following site to download:

Thanks Josh for the free audible book code in my email! I bought The Darkling Thrush and also Fair Game which was at a greatly reduced price for some reason, and which I've been wanting in audio for awhile.
Woot!

You're late! :) We bought it yesterday. Matter of fact I'm headed into town and will be listening to it on my way in.
This. I must have this new title. Adrien is calling my name. I need to get back to the audible site right away!
I am listening to the audio bokk of Strange Fortune in the evenings, such fun. And I am fascinated by how the narrator portrays the various characters. He has made me fall in love with Major Strange ;)

Listening to audiobooks has encouraged me to listen more to a radio station we have in the UK that does lots of readings of books and adaptations and stuff. I've just been listening to the first of three episodes of The Birds. Such a creepy story.

I'm almost finished with The Dark Tide. *big dreamy sigh*
Becky wrote: "Listening to audiobooks has encouraged me to listen more to a radio station we have in the UK that does lots of readings of books and adaptations and stuff"Oh, I used to listen to Radio 4, but I didn't know that there is a BBC Radio 4 Extra! Thank you, Becky!
Here the link for ''The Birds''. It is for free, but it starts with some two minutes of ads for other programs and you've got 7 days left to listen to it:

Radio 4 extra is fun. Where else can you listen to Rumpole of the Bailey while having your breakfast? :D
I've been listening to Alan Rickman read Thomas Hardy's The Return of the Native. It's so lovely. I think I'd listen to him read just about anything, but I'm really enjoying the story. Someone here recommended it a while ago, so thank you to whomever that was.
Just finished the Dangerous Ground books in audio. I should be ready to read Kick Start now! lol.
I think my next audio book will be Widdershins. That one looked interesting yesterday while I was on the train, but I didn't want to turn off my music to hear the two chatty girls behind me (who obviously didn't read the sign that said they were in the quiet car. grrrrr.) so I ended up listening to music I haven't listened to in a long time. Things like Enya, Loreena McKennit (I always spell her name wrong), Franki Valli and the Four Seasons, Simon and Garfunkle, the stress relief cd by Lee R. Bartel, and a few other random things that popped up on my player. It was rather nice. Not the complete variety of music I have on there, but good enough for a few hours of quality reading and knitting time.

I love his dialogue.
Started listening to Widdershins last night and got a few chapters in but just wasn't in the right frame of mind for it. Being exhausted wasn't helping. This morning I switched to CUTYS on my way to and from work. I gotta say, there's just something relaxing about listening to this book. It's very calming, even when Swift's addiction rears it's ugly head.
I'm looking forward to getting back to Widdershins, but it might be a day or two.

I have to listen to this one as well. Part of me wants to get to it asap, and the other part of me wants to wait so the story doesn't end quite so fast.

There should be a word for that, the feeling when you want to finish a book to know how the story ends, while at the same time not wanting the story to end...:)

Excellent!
I was listening to an audiobook of a het romance that I like and have read a few times, perhaps 3 or 4. I kept thinking it must be skipping (I was in the car) because phrases I remembered didn't come up, scenes seemed shorter than I remembered, etc.. When I got home I checked - it was abridged!!!! I was horrified. I abhor abridged books. Fortunately Audible was sympathetic to my request for a refund (which now I think about it probably read more like the reaction of someone discovering that there were cockroaches in the house), so I've bought a more expensive unabridged audiobook by the same author (I felt honour-bound to use the refund that way).
I suggested to Audible that they make it possible for people like me to select a setting which makes it impossible for us to buy an abridged book inadvertently. They're considering the idea!

I felt exactly the same. I consoled myself with the thought that I'll listen to them all again, soon.
I finally saw Weekend (2011) on DVD. I loved it!It's a quiet movie, which leaves you a bit melancholic, but not crushed or anything. Not the typical gay movie either.
I loved both actors, they look so natural in their roles. It is set in Nottingham, and this add to the charm for me, I'm a bit of an anglophile.

ETA: I posted this in the wrong topic, but I've got a good excuse. Have you noticed that in the title here it says ''What We're Watching > What we're listening to''?
Hj wrote: "I suggested to Audible that they make it possible for people like me to select a setting which makes it impossible for us to buy an abridged book inadvertently. I always make sure to un-check abridged, so that I don't get abridged results.
I have ALMOST bought abridged before, but caught it in time. I BET that's the highest return rate at Audible, those of us who inadvertently bought abridged.
AEgony. I love it!
As for abridged. No way do I want that. If I want a summary I can just read a few reviews here! Lol. Having a permanent setting for a profile like that would be nice.
I got back into Widdershins on my way home and while doing the dishes that had piled up. I was in the right frame of mind to handle monsters. I love Whyborne, however he spells that. He's such an introvert it's kinda cute. It sucks though that most of his coworkers make fun of him. But then there's Griffen who makes everything better. :-)

While there are books I'd probably have been happy to see abridged, generally the idea of abridged audiobooks is horrible. It's like having an abridged pizza with no cheese. Or abridged cookies with no chocolate chips. Or abridged sex with no...well you get the idea. ;-)
I was searching for a bunch of Pratchett ones recently and had to be careful as there are several abridged recordings of those. I'm sure they are nicely ready bu Tony "Baldrick" Robinson, but, um, no.

I bought this one during a sale, and actually paid cash rather than a credit because the price was right. Now I know why.
I'm just lazy, and want the system to do all the work for me! The feature I really wish Audible would adopt is the ability to sort results by price. I can't think of another website which doesn't, and it's a feature I use on Amazon all the time. I wanted to buy Persuasion and there are several different recordings (I assume partly because it's out of copyright). Of course the narrator matters a lot in making a choice, but one might as well go though checking them in price order!

Just finished Widdershins. It was pretty good. Not what I was expecting at all, but enjoyable. Plus , no cliffhangers at the end either even though I think more books will follow.
Started on In Sunshine or in Shadow audiobook last night. Some of the stories I already know, some I don't. Should be fun. And 14+ hours! Lots to listen to.
I am just starting the Adrien English series starting with Fatal Shadows over again. It's like revisiting an old friend and its amazing how much I forgot from reading it years ago. I think listening to it gives a pleasurable new dimension.

That's so true. I read the books a long time ago. The last two I'd skimmed more recently, but it was still fun to listen to them and get to know the stories and characters all over again.

I agree. When done well, it makes the whole experience of story that much more intense. (Assuming both the writing and narration hold up.)
