Oh, Adrien.... why don't you just cut out my heart and stop on it with hockey blades.... I'm sure it would hurt less.
I love/hate chapter 18. When I first read the books, I'd had so many "I want to kick Jake" moments so by all rights I should have cheered that Adrien finally got the chance to hurt Jake as Jake has so many times hurt Adrien. But no...... I was like.... "no Adrien! Be nice to Jake!!" And from that moment my heart broke over Jake so many times even if in fact Adrien never really behaved as badly as Jake.
Twisted......

I'm so fed up with Audible that I'm really struggling with the idea of doing any more books through them. The last word was it would be out on the 10th.
I told them I was going to start telling readers to demand return/exchanges when the collection came out.

Because they put out the individual titles before the collection, although the files were all done at the same time and should have gone live at the same time.
This is a problem because I paid for the collection up front. But I was so pleased with the job Adrian did, and I was looking forward to him narrating the rest of the series, that I thought for a bonus I would split the royalties on the individual titles. Not taking into account that if by some weird glitch the books didn't all go live at the same time, that could be a costly mistake.
And so it has proven. One week, two weeks wouldn't have been a big deal. Finding out that it's going to be yet another week? I'm pretty unhappy.

Not at all your fault. My reasons for arranging things the way I did, still stand. I'm just so aggravated with Audible.
I think they rush through royalty share projects -- which makes perfect sense. And if they still processed all files within 2 weeks, it would have been okay. But they currently claim it takes 20 days to processing (in fact it usually takes 25 - 30) and that's just too long in this situation.

I'm sorry you are so unhappy with Audible and I understand your frustration.
I really love it from a reader/listener standpoint, though.
I'm at the end of chapter 6 in Dangerous Ground, and it's fantastic.

However, I also dislike them as a reader because:
- I hate waiting for audiobooks which I know are ready and want to buy, e.g. LB Gregg's Simple Gifts (which also took ages to come through) and this Dangerous Ground collection. I save credits for them and then forget and spend them on other things. Also, Audible were running a promotion in the UK which gave readers extra credits depending on how many sets of three audiobooks they bought before the end of November. Obviously, I wanted the DG collection to be one of them. But because of the delay it couldn't be.
- they have some very odd gaps in their availability. I'll look for a very popular author and find nothing for them, even though I know that their books have been recorded because I've heard them on CD (or even on cassette). I don't think Audible make enough push to get those old rights; I think they prefer to get newer recordings which I don't like as well - one has to wonder if that's because of the business model with ASX (if that's the right acronym).

I think that's mostly a legal problem. They might not have the rights to publish that certain author in the UK via download. I had this issue with Neil Gaiman's American Gods. I never read it and thought it a good idea to get it as audio book. Obviously, there are several recordings of that book in English. But you can't get them through the German audible.de branch. They only offer the translated version which I'm not interested in. So I wrote to them and got the answer about them not owning the rights to the original audio book version. In the end (after pursuing that audio book for about a year) I found an affordable offer for a mp3 CD on ebay and got it there...

Here performed by Miriam Makeba, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Paul Simon.

And the series gets better as Adrian goes along and gets more and more comfortable with each man. It's such a treat to listen to.

I've had them "lose" (their explanation!) five different projects in their system. So...I don't know if "lose" is a euphemism for "what we tell irate authors" or what, but that's not exactly reassuring.
In two cases, I suspect the books would still be floating out there somewhere if I hadn't raised hell.

On a more cheerful note, I heard the most gorgeous voice -- Corinne May -- singing a Christmas carol yesterday. I don't care much for the YouTube selections I saw, but I will definitely try to hunt down a Christmas album if she has one. I love her voice.

I listened to a YouTube version of Santa Baby from the 50s. I had NO IDEA that Eartha Kitt did the original version! Such a fun little gold-digging song.

So, a reminder to check your account if you think you earned the $10 reward for November!

I had a similar experience, because I had thought it would be credited the moment I bought the last qualifying book. In fact the credit isn't due until mid-December (in the UK, anyway). As a reader I have always had a good experience with Audible except for their slowness in getting new books processed!

I agree. Her version of Santa Baby is my favorite Chrismas song, followed by Burl Ives singing, A Holly Jolly Christmas. That one was playing yesterday morning in Starbucks. I sang along softly while I waited for my coffee. :)

My father used to play Burl Ives when I was a child. There's a voice I haven't heard for years.

I'm sure I've heard it. It's a fun little song. It's no surprise so many songstresses have taken a shot.
Same thing with Baby, It's Cold Outside.
Speaking of which, I just heard a kind of peculiar version with (I think) Martina MacBride taking the classic Dean Martin version and replacing the female singer with herself. :-D
I don't know. On one hand that seems sort of clever. And on the other...sort of offensive.

Hmmm... Dean Martin's Baby, It's Cold Outside just might be my absolute favorite Christmas song. We were just talking about it yesterday, when hubby said that his favorite Christmas song is Doris Day's Winter Wonderland.
I'm not sure if I dare to try to find the version you mentioned... :-)

I just put the audiobook of Stephen King's The Stand on my Audible wish list. I think I'll wait until after the new year before I get it though, as it's over 47 hours long! Will probably take me a month to listen to it. Still only 1 credit though. That's value for money. :D
I will likely be listening to TDOAPK next Sunday on my train ride. First listen and I can't wait!
My favorite Christmas song is The War Is Over. If I recall, it's by John Lennon. I've never been one for traditional songs.

That's one of my favorites, too. I was listening to Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong album this morning, and her version is very nice. :) I love her version of River, too, which I believe was originally by Joni Mitchell.
