Listened to more on today's drive - lovely. I do like the guy who did Perfect Heart (the same one as The French Have a Word For It - he'd just right for these nervy, vulnerable youngsters. (Not to take anything away from the other narrators, who are also very good - just saying I approve of your casting!)

Oh well, nine is fine. It's good that he's finding life such fun!

I'm going to make sure I've always got a credit inbetween the monthly ones, so if something I want RIGHT NOW comes out I can get it right away without either waiting or forking out full price.
I might knock my membership up to two books a month soon. I'm loving the audio books. You've definitely got me into them. :D

I know some of you, like me, liked Every Time I Think of You by the same author, "Pins" is his debut novel, I believe.
And I am partial to the reading style of Fleischner, as well.

Thank you so much for the recommendation, Anne!

I noticed this morning that Adrian has uploaded the first two chapters of the final Dangerous Ground book, Dead Run. :-D

I especially enjoyed (if you can say it in that way because I enjoyed all of them) the narration of "In Plain Sight". As it happened some times before, the narrated version adds to my understanding of the story. I see it better, feel Nash better than on plain old paper.
I feel like it was asked before but can't find it... Is there a list of the stories with the respective narrators around?

Now that's on my list of niggles about audio books. Or is it just Audible books? My collection is all Audible so I can't compare.
I understand why the narrators might find having different "pen names" a practical professional option, but it would be nice to be able to credit specific narrators in an anthology. This has been the same case with other anthologies. When there are only four stories I can surmise that the narrators are listed in story order, but there's no confirmation for that.
More annoying is that my anthologies are divided by chapters, but with no notation of story titles or where they begin or end. I'm using iTunes. Is this is peculiar to iTunes and resolved on the Audible app or other players?
And another thing, I'm waiting for this media to develop some form of note taking like e-readers... not asking much am I? ; )

I have only the Audible app, but they have only chapters like you described. And there's no pause between chapters in this collection. In a book it's nice when you don't have to wait for the next chapter. In an anthology or collection a little break would be nice. (I'm never fast enough to hit the pause-button...) We should probably let Audible know?
And another thing, I'm waiting for this media to develop some form of note taking like e-readers... not asking much am I? ; )
This should be possible. At least, I know a video note taking tool (really cool when you take part in online courses

Ooookay, I couldn't wait until tomorrow and gardening. I just finished listening the three first short stories of In Sunshine or in Shadow audio (Perfect Day, A Limited Engagement and In Sunshine or in Shadow) and I must say I hugely admire Josh's ability to find such great narrators for his audio books. I mean, I have listened to some irritating and not so pleasant to listen to narrators — but that has NEVER been the case with Josh's books. Those have the best narrators I've ever listened to and I don't say it because I like the books so much. Quite the contrary — I assume that that fact alone makes me a pretty demanding customer. LOL. If one loves the book in question listening to the audio version can be extremely delicate business... ;-)
All the first three stories and narrations are perfect. And I think it's crucial that the different narrators switch from story to story when the book is an anthology or a short story collection like this one. It helps the reader/listener to get into the mood of the next story.
Aaaanyway... after Josh has started to release his books on audio I have started to like raking. Can't wait for tomorrow. ;-)

I've been seen sitting in my car after I arrived, not getting out, because I had just to finish listening or I just couldn't find the off-button. ;-)

I stayed up past 1:00am on a school night listening to Perfect Day. Not the same as driving, but my commute is now very, very short, a blessing and a curse. : )
It's 3:00 a.m. now and I'm struggling between whether I should go to bed or start listening to The French Have a Word for It — or maybe both? ;-)

So let us know how that went...

The echoey thing was great. But I wasn't prepared for it at first. I was stuck in a hotel room last weekend with someone who snores very loudly. I'd forgotten to pack my ear plugs and didn't even think of them until everyone else was asleep. I ended up listening to IFTC with the volume up loud to cover the sound of the snoring. The echoey thing woke me up, sorta. Lol.
I do really love his accent and the way he reads. Almost soothing, even during a gun battle!
Just started the second book, Wicked. Loving it!

I thought the UK Meet was in July. Hmm. I'm hoping I can go! I'm also hoping to catch a London performance by the English National Ballet, either before or after the meet.
As soon as I get to a proper wi-fi connection for my Kindle, I'll be downloading Sunshine!!! Yay!
One reason I don't mind this long car trip I'm on is because I can get a lot of reading done. My commute to work these days is a ten minute bus ride or a twenty-thirty minute walk. Not much time for books, even audio. But when I'm stuck on a train for four hours leaving the city I've come to love audio books.
I've got my audible books on my kindle and anthologies seem to be all chapters, but at least I can jump to any chapter I want. If I know which chapters start which stories, that is.

I do have that list somewhere. I'll dig it up.
I know Adam Chase narrated IPS. He has a somewhat older voice (that sounds awful, but hopefully you know what I mean -- he sounds like a grown up) but he had the best timing and the best...understanding?...of the lines. It was clear to me that he completely understood what I was trying to convey, so though I wasn't "in love" with his voice (in the way I was in love with Alexander's voice or Adrian's voice) I was gripped by his narration.

That's probably to do with the choice of the production company? Or maybe some of the limitations within ACX. I agree -- I was surprised that there was such a brief and inexact intro, but I probably could have objected and had that changed.
ACX is still really new and we're all still figuring it out. Originally I thought the production companies and narrators were all vastly experienced. :-D Now I realize we're all making it up as we go along.

That's so gratifying. I did spend a lot of time trying to match the right voice to the right story. I hope it was mostly successful. The one thing I did think was really crucial for that suspension of disbelief was that the narrator change after each story. So that it was clearly a new adventure with a new main character.

Soooo, here is some more fan mail... ;-)
While raking today in bright sunlight and nice, cool autumn air I listened to The French Have a Word for It. It made me want to book a flight to Paris ASAP. :-) I really enjoyed revisiting Colin and Thomas and that beautiful city seen from an artist's sensual perspective. I liked the narrator's young, slightly shaky and breathless voice (I hope this doesn't sound offensive, because it's meant to be a praise). This story, this little gem, has a special delicate, almost vulnerable feel to it. There is not a lot happening — but at the same time everything that happens is huge, earthmoving. It's so full of life — just like Paris. And I also love how big parts both the past and the future play in this story. Just lovely.
The raking left me red cheeked and and the audio book left me happy. What a smashing combination. ;-)
ETA: Stories like this leave me in awe of Josh's ability to tell part of the story off page. I know I'm not saying this well, I run out of words, but I know you guys understand what I mean.

Not offensive at all, because as someone -- HJ? -- mentioned in an earlier comment, I did try to match up those nervy youngsters with a voice that I felt captured that mix of bravado and diffidence.

I agree with all you say, Johanna. I like this story for the same reasons (Paris! Montmartre!!), and the narrator was perfect.

Cool! Thank you, Josh! :-)

In Sunshine Or In Shadow audio book is wonderful. The stories are just long enough to entertain, but not so long that extensive character development draws from the plot (I say that in the best possible way). The narrators are unique to each story, and add to the overall quality of the book. Once again Josh you are spot on. I thought that I Spy was the best Audio Book so far, keep proving me wrong.
