I thought the "echoey thing" was a good way of conveying the fact that he's thinking, or remembering - I haven't checked back in the book, but it's the sort of thing which may be in italics and is difficult to differentiate in an audiobook.

The English accent is very good - only one or two little things to indicate that it isn't his first accent.

I've downloaded the I-Spy audiobbok on my new gadget-love and I am going to listen to it sooner, if there's a guy with a lovely accent. No art thief, unfortunately, only a bit overwhelmed by the translation thing. I miss you all and I miss reading for pleasure :)

I hope you are all ok, baci e abbracci all around!

Hi Manu! *waves*

It is a lovely accent, altogether a very enjoyable narration, he makes the love scenes sound like poetry. The book has been placed on the soon to be listened to again-shelf :) (Together with CUTYS)

Ah the flashbacks! Something I had never anticipated when I wrote the original story. They were so confusing! And I'm the writer!

Which was surprising because there are sort of flashbacks in AE, but not the same, and not confusing.

Anyway, Alexander came up with the echo, and I thought it worked pretty well.

So we've got something new today from Audible!

In Sunshine or In Shadow Four different narrators read thirteen different stories.

Not sure if this is actually a success or not. But one thing for sure, I know you guys will let me know if you want more of the same thing or not.

This is an expensive one, by the way, so you'll want to use your credits, if you have credits.

Oh. My. God. I hadn't realized that it's the WHOLE short story collection!!!! For some reason I thought it would only be the one short story! It's almost too good to be true. Hugs all around!!!! And the biggest one goes to Josh! *on her way to Audible to push all the buttons needed* :-)

HJ | 3603 comments This is what credits are for! Used one and bought it. Thank you, Josh - so looking forward to hearing these stories.

I shall be interested to see if I can identify the reasoning behind using the different narrators, and how you chose which one for each story. (If it was merely expedience, better let me know before I go crazy trying to spot a rationale!)

No, I definitely wanted different voices for each story. I thought switching voices from story to story would help change the mood and the feeling of each work.

tried to match the voices, but that was hit or miss.

A print reader's delight. Thirteen short stories, five never before collected in print, written between 2007 and 2013. Sexy, sweet, and occasionally strange, these brief but emotionally powerful stories encapsulate everything readers of Male Male romance have come to love most about Josh Lanyon's work. The collection includes the five Petit Mort stories written for JCP Books: "Slings and Arrows," "Other People's Weddings," "Sort of Stranger Than Fiction," "Critic's Choice" and "Just Desserts." Arranged to flow thematically and stylistically are "Perfect Day," "A Limited Engagement," "In Sunshine or In Shadow," a lightly rewritten version of "The French Have a Word for It," "In a Dark Wood," "Until We Meet Once More," "Heart Trouble" and the new and exclusive "In Plain Sight."

When are you heading to Atlanta? This weekend?

message 740: by Susinok (last edited Oct 09, 2013 01:28PM) (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I am headed to Atlanta on Saturday to visit with my half brother. Then I'll head over to the GRL hotel either late Wednesday or early Thursday morning. I'm booked Thurs-Sun, but I can add a day if getting me over there is a hassle.

It's a 2-in-1 trip. Family and GRL.

And I would TOTALLY love to celebrate my B-day in Bristol!

message 746: by HJ (new)

HJ | 3603 comments Back on topic - I had a fairly long drive today so indulged myself, listening to the new audiobook of the short stories in In Sunshine or in Shadow. What a wonderful experience. I'm very impressed with the choice of narrators - the reader for the title story had a real Irish lilt to his voice, and the one for The French Have a Word for It was also perfect; he sounded young and tentative and vulnerable. I'm very pleased I have more driving to do tomorrow!!

Oh wait, can there be more perfect? Today one of my students wrote that something was more funner... : )

How old was that student? I hope you're not teaching him use of English ...

But I do like the concept of "even more perfect", especially when applied to Josh's audiobooks. I was reflecting after I listened to ISAIS last night that his work just gets better and better the more often you read/listen, and listening is ideal because you really appreciate the rhythm and the word choice, the ones which echo something earlier in the story and the ones which reveal the character.
