Becky Black (beckyblack) I almost went for another Josh book in Audible this month, but the only one I don't have so far that I want is The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks and I haven't actually read that one yet. I'm not that keen on getting audiobooks of ones I haven't read before.

So this month is next in Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking trilogy, The Ask and the Answer. Which is huge. So big it comes as two files instead of one.

I still have to finish the third book on paper: I started to jump forward, got pissed with myself (as usual) and then abandoned it. Obviously not because of lack of interest, if not I wouldn't have been jumping forward...

You need to get it! The voices are so wonderful, and the character accents! I "listened" to this book before I read it. I loved every minute. I'm about to listen to it again while waiting for my next Lanyon on audio.

I was looking at Styxx earlier on Audible and it is 31 hours long! I didn't get it since I am a few books behind in that series, but wow.

I'm listening to Fair Game again, then plan to start The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It has the same narrator as Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption which I really enjoyed.

Josh, quite apart from all your fans, since you are a loving uncle I am sure that you'll never be alone.

The thing is, even if you have a lot of family (born or aquired) and friends, there are some holes nobody can fill. My father for instance, he has six children and 16 grandchildren and so far two great- grandchildren, but none of us can fill the hole in his heart that my mother occupied. So, the price for loving someone for a whole lifetime is to be lonely when that person passes away. In the beginning I am not sure he found the price worth paying, but slowly as life returns, he does. It is sad in a way, but also uplifting, I think. I also think it is one of those facts of life one has to accept.

So, why don't we create the Fanyon house for the elderly and infirm where we all can gather and we can spend the time discussing Josh's books in detail? And since we all probably are more or less demented at that time, we can have the same discussions all the time and never get bored since we will have forgotten we talked about the same books two hours before ;)

That's a great idea.

Here in Switzerland there are projects of likely minded people - not anymore so young - buying a flat in a big house and having lots of facilities in common. The idea is also that in future, if they need assistance, that could be organized in common.

I've got friends in such a project and they are also very open to the outside. For ex. they organize every month a ''Full Moon Soup'': someone from the house cooks two different soups, one can go there and eat for something like 5 dollars all soup and bread one wants.

Thanks, HJ. I really didn't mean to turn this into oh poor me, I'm going to die alone!

(Given my reckless ways I'll probably be the first out the door anyway -- and serve the SO right!) ;-D

I think it came to my mind after reading about Andre Norton who ended up living with fans at the end of her life. And that probably has more to do with the way the situation was described than her actual living arrangement -- which would probably be more accurately described as living with close friends.

I go back and forth on this. If it's a book I think I might want to refer to again or I already love it so much, I don't tend to do audio. But I like discovering books in audio -- especially if it's a book I'm a little leery of reading.

Somehow it's easier if someone reads it to me. I have no idea why.

Sometimes people do change their minds on this, but it's just as likely you won't. And the only reason you would is circumstances change enough in your life that you make different decisions, you make the decisions right for you at that time.

Which is how it should be.

Susinok | 5205 comments I just started the new JD Robb today, Thankless in Death. I love this series SOOO much, and I'm a total Eve Dallas fangirl. She's my hero.

Oh and I bought the first Boystown: Three Nick Nowak Mysteries mystery on Audio by Marshall Thornton. Those will be fun to listen to, since it's broken down into three stories, it will go quickly during my commute (AKA 15 min drive to work)

I read the whole Nick Nowak series and found it good, but quite grim.

Interesting. We all have our different approaches. And I used to be fine with books that were new to me, when I listened to lots on the Podio books site. http://podiobooks.com/ But then, they are free and aren't available in print (or weren't when I listened anyway. Some have gone on to publishing deals now. Maybe being free made a difference.

I don't usually buy books in both audio and paper/ebook but there are always exceptions. No offense to you Josh but I bought the first and second Adrien English book from recommendations and I read the first one but I didn't like it so I had no intention of reading the second one but then they were released on audio and I said let me give it another try. I then fell in love so sometimes it takes listening for me.
I sit at a computer all day so I listen to multiple books a week, thank goodness I get 99% from the library.

There were (or are) many older single women live and grow old together in some old Chinese communities, some of them would buy a large house together and just live like family. But of course, some of them were lesbians who never came out their whole lives.

I've been told that I would change my mind about having children since I was 25 and now I am approaching the age where natural pregnancy is rarer than getting hit by rocket. I think society mix-up has changed. 1/3 of my friends are single and not really planning to get hitched, 1/3 are couples with no plan for children and 1/3 are married with children.

I will be great if we can set up fanyon house for the elderly in both Europe and US, so we can do road trips too.

I was told for years and years (with a smirk) "You'll change your mind about having kids". NOW that I'm of an age, they say "You didn't want kids? You were smart!"
