Antonella | 11565 comments Thank you, Sylvia and Josh.

Maybe I interrupted the proceedings as soon as I saw the file name on the Kindle but the file wasn't yet downloaded... I'll try once more.

I have the audio -- I'm not sure now which one! I haven't listened yet.

K.Z. Snow (kzsnow) | 1606 comments All I'm listening to at the moment are the wind chimes outside my windows. And they seem to be saying, Get back to work! ;-)

message 504: by Susinok (new)

Susinok | 5205 comments I just started listening to Hot Head by Damon Suede. It's been long enough since I read it, it's nice to revisit those two.

Problem with the narration is that I have to turn my radio dial way up to be able to hear him. The narration sound is rather low, even though the person's voice is not overly quiet.

message 505: by Charming (new)

Charming (charming_euphemism) I just finished The Rest Of Our Lives. I liked it (didn't love it) but it had an incredibly annoying flaw - every once in a while a few words were repeated. It seemed random - not at chapter breaks or anything. I suppose I should tell Amazon.

That's one of the nice parts of summer. Open windows so you can hear the chimes and the wind through the leaves.

Was it professionally narrated? Or just that mechanical audio?

Listening to Muse in Helsinki Olympic stadion July 27th.

As you can see we were standing pretty far away from the stage, but very near the end of the cat-walk. It turned out that the band used the cat-walk quite a bit. Here is Matthew Bellamy saying "hi" to you all. :-)

When driving 700 kilometers from Helsinki to home we needed some cheerful music to keep us awake. Here are two slightly crazy songs to use in case of emergency. LOL. Maybe not the kind of music I would listen to on a daily basis, but... it worked. :-)

Love Natural by Crystal Fighters

and

Jenny by Studio Killers

Studio Killers is Finnish-Danish-English virtual band and the song Jenny tells about a girl who is in love with her best friend (a girl). The lyrics start like this:

Jenny, darling, you're my best friend
But there's a few things that you don't know of
Why I borrow your lipstick so often
I'm using your shirt as a pillow case

I wanna ruin our friendship
We should be lovers instead
I don't know how to say this
'cause you're really my dearest friend

HJ | 3603 comments This is the song by Crystal Fighters which I love - I've been known to listen to it ten times in a row! It's called At Home.

What a great song, Hj! Thank you so much for the link. This band is new to me and Love Natural was actually the first and only song I knew by them. It looks that I really should listen to them more. :-)

message 516: by HJ (last edited Jul 30, 2013 04:28AM) (new)

HJ | 3603 comments It's the only one by them which I know. When I was looking for it to link it I listened to bits of other songs by them but didn't like them as much.

It reminds me of a song which I really like and which I think has already been linked here somewhere - Of Monsters and Men, Little Talks

Anne | 6816 comments I have started re-listening to CUTYS - again! I need to finish my daughter's sweather so she can meet the winter covered in wool, and I need something to listen to while knitting. Since it isn't that long since last time I listened to the book, I remember how it went, and concentrate on the language and emotions this time. I love it.

Thanks Josh for writing it, and thanks lovely Johanna for gifting the audiobook to me :)

message 518: by HJ (new)

HJ | 3603 comments Anne - it's fun re-listening when you know the story and just appreciate the way it's told, isn't it? And I can't knit without an audiobook now. Are you making a plain sweater or a complicated pattern?

If you google the word mariusgenser you can actually see the pattern, it is a very popular pattern here, based on traditional Norwgian patterns. I am making it in the original colours, blue, white and red. My daughter especially asked me to make it, I believe she finds it exotic to wear in the UK where she lives. :)

If I knew how to make a link, I would have ;)

HJ | 3603 comments Anne, that's lovely! Is your daughter staying on in Edinburgh now she has graduated?

message 521: by Anne (new)

Anne | 6816 comments Hj wrote: "Anne, that's lovely! Is your daughter staying on in Edinburgh now she has graduated?"

No, she is currently living in Cornwall and is looking for jobs in and around that district. She just applied for two jobs in Bristol, so if she ends up there I can very easily visit her there and attend the next UK meet.. (A girl can dream)

message 522: by HJ (new)

HJ | 3603 comments Cornwall is lovely! Bristol is an interesting place to live and work, but it's a long way from Cornwall, unfortunately. But lovely as Cornwall is, there aren't many jobs there. Has she tried Exeter? It's in Devon, about an hour and a half from both Bristol and Cornwall ie halfway between them. It has a good University and is quite busy.

Anne | 6816 comments Hj wrote: "Cornwall is lovely! Bristol is an interesting place to live and work, but it's a long way from Cornwall, unfortunately. But lovely as Cornwall is, there aren't many jobs there. Has she tried Exet..."

I believe she will cast her net in all these places, but there have been few jobs so far. She is in the middle of the post graduation blues I believe, not really knowing what to do with her life after being so focussed on getting her degree for so long. She might even come back to Oslo for a while if she doesn't get a job soon. In my secret, evil heart I sometimes hope for that, on the other hand, I wish for her to get what she wants (if she knows what that is) :)

In the meantime, she applies for jobs, works as a waitress and surfs and fish and camps in the woods with her boyfriend. Not a bad life for a period, but perhaps not sustainable for a long time. And I can see the charm of staying in Cornwall, it is such a lovely place.

I definitely would like to see Bristol one day.

I have learned that grown up kids do what they like, not what their mom thinks they should do. And that is how I raised them, so can't complain, really.

I think I've never met anyone (except Antonella) who has been as happy and grateful about such a small, impulsively given gift as you are, dear Anne! You are so welcome, sweetheart. I absolutely love CUTYS and the audio version, so I feel you completely. It's wonderful to enjoy Josh's writing all alone (just the book and me), but it's equally awesome to get to share love like that with people who feel the same. I think it's very special the way Josh's books bring people together. :-)

And I'm so glad that digital audiobooks won't wear out like C-cassettes used to! Nicole wrote on another topic that there are books she've read over 100 times. I can totally imagine CUTYS becoming one of those for me. ;-)

LOL. (And by the way that is such a great song!) I have a couple of books (in Finnish) that have a collection of lyrics people easily tend to mishear. Hilarious to read!

Villejä rubiineja Väärin kuultuja laulunsanoja by Antti Isokangas Minä suojelen sinua taiteelta Lisää väärin kuultuja laulunsanoja by Antti Isokangas

Anne | 6816 comments Yesterday I went for an outdoors performance of Donizetti's the Love Elixir. Like most comic operas the libretto is kind of ridicilous, but the music is divine. It was a very fun production. Add the fact that it takes place in the courtyard of an old military fort on a tiny island in the Oslo fjord, it rained buckets, and we had to wait among hundreds of wet people for room on the small boat back, and I had to drive through pitch dark, wet narrow roads after midnight to get home, it was a great adventure :)

It is a kind of camaraderie that occurs between strangers when the conditions are less than optimal, have you noticed that? Everybody were in high spirits despite the terrible conditions, or perhaps because of it.

This is the pattern and the colours I am doing, but a different style, not the round upper part, but with the sleeves sown to the body in stead. Not easy to describe in a foreign language :)
