Ask Ally!
Pennie wrote: "Dear Ally,I've read all the Matched books, but who put Ky in the Matching Pool? Where do they get the dresses? And finally who would you choose Xander or Ky?
Sincerly,
Pennie"
In the last book she addresses who put Ky in the Matching pool.
Ally, I really love your books. My favorite books are the Matched trilogy, and there are some questions I want to ask about it.
How did Ky get in the Matching Pool? I'm glad Xander is Cassia's match, and I don't want that to change.
My second question is this; How did you get the idea to write the trilogy?
Thanks for answering these questions!
What part of the world does The Society rule?Where is the Province of Oria?
How far in the future is it?
What is the backstory of the Society?
Why do they ban all poetry except for the "100 best" and forbid any new poetry?
Same question for paintings, songs, etc.
Im Daija, and I just finished the first two books of the Matched series and I want to know, is Xander going to love someone else, and if they do reach their goal of overthrowing the government whose going to lead the new one ?
Hi,Just gonna say first of all: YOU ARE AWESOME!!!! :D Thank you sooo much for writing your books!
Anywyay, I was wondering where you got your inspiration from for the story and all of the character names? Also, before you wrote 'Matched', did you have the plot for the rest of the books planned out already, or did you build on it afterwards?
I really hope you're planning to write another series of books, and am looking forward to reading more of your works.
Laura
Dear Ally i have read all the books and loved them i was just wondering if you would wirte anymore as i would love to read them
Hey there :)Whenever I start writing a new story, I can't bring myself to finish it. I find it hard to keep writing when I don't know how it's going to end.
My question is, did you know how Matched was going to end from the very beginning, or was it something you had to build with time?
Thanks a lot,
huge fan of your books. :)
What was your favorite book out of the trilogy to write? Which character was easiest to write and which was the hardest? Did you take any characters from real life? Thanks! I really loved your books. I still haven't read the last one because it's not at my library.
Hi Ally! :)If you could be any of the characters from the Matched trilogy, who would you be and why?
As a younge writer/auther wanna be.I am in love with writing but i was wondering What has helped you grow as a writer/author? This would help me understand what it takes to help me. :)
Hey Ally! How did you come up with the idea of the pilot and the rolling of the rock? Also are you currently writing another book? If so what is it about? :)
Becca
Dear Ally,I absolutely am IN LOVE with your series! Ky is my favorite and his relationship with Cassia just makes my heart melt! But there is one thing that kinda got to me in your last book and I don't want to ruin anything for anyone but I am really curious as to why you had this occur in the last book!!!
How did you come up with the series??! :) I love it and I know lots of authors get inspiration from their lives or surroundings, can you relate to Cassia?
Hi. I just wanted to know what inspired you to write and where did you get the ideas from and also what made you write these three books.
Hi Ally,I am so excited to see that there is a Q&A with the Author of one of my favorite trilogies of all time. I loved the books with all my heart and I can re-read them all over again every year. First of all I wanted to thank you fo writing these books they were amazing. And second of all I wanted to ask if there will be any other dystopian series that you will be writing or are writing already. Or are you going to write a book on another genere. I know that probably you won't see this message but if you do please reply to me. It would make my day, I'm not joking.

Daija wrote: "Im Daija, and I just finished the first two books of the Matched series and I want to know, is Xander going to love someone else, and if they do reach their goal of overthrowing the government whos..."Hi Daija, I know that was supposed to be a question for Ally so I apologize. I just wanted to let you know that it all gets explained in the final book Reached. :)
Hi Ally! The questions that I have are how did you know that you wanted to write? How did you get the idea for these books? I am 16 years old and I am looking at creative writing for a carear in my future, so do you have any advice that you could give me? Thanks!
Sincerly, Jordyn

Allie answers that. Cassia puts Ky in the matching pool but she took a red tablet after. It was what she did for the rising without realising it. Add aberations an anomalies to the matching pool :) x
Hope this helped
Hi Ally, I'm a big fan. In fact I've passed on my copies of your books to three different friends including my mother-in-law. We all really enjoyed the books. Where did you draw your inspiration for the main characters? Were you influenced by The Giver by Lois Lowry or Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury?
What was the role of Cassia's Official? I haven't read Reached for a while, so sorry if she was in the book.
Hi Ally,I'm a middle school English teacher and a huge fan of your work. I enjoyed the Matched trilogy very much, and encourage my students who enjoy Dystopian literature to read it. My question for you is, would you ever consider writing the same story, but from the Society's point of view? I think it would be interesting for readers to see how the Society was formed as well as the shift in thinking and power that must have occurred in order for the Society to prosper for so long.
Thank you for answering all of our questions, and good luck with your next project. I eagerly await its unveiling ;)
Dear Ally,Firstly, will you ever possibly ever write a short story/e-book about Bran? He was definitely my favorite character and I missed him!
Secondly, I realize you left the ending vague on purpose concerning the people's decision but which way do you think they voted?
Thirdly, your playlists for your books are quite spectacular!
Thanks! :)
Hello Ally! I was wondering if you modeled any characters after people you know, and if so, which characters?Thank you,
Morgan
OMG Hello Mrs Ally Condie. I would like to ask you, what were your inspiration to make art play such a pivotal role in the story, such as the poems which Cassia receive?I know you can only receive my questions but your books are so great and original!
Hello Ally,I loved the matched triology so much and I really want to meet you is there any chance you will be coming to England for a book signing if so when and what had inspired you to make the book matched?
love,
Amarah
Hi Ally,I was wondering if you could talk about the role of feminism in your series. I really appreciated the way you used a love triangle, but still emphasized Cassia's right to make her own decision.
Hello Ms. Condie,I'm a big fan of your Matched Trilogy. I recently read Reached, which made me a bit confused. It had a really sort of...detached feeling. It felt like the characters weren't really a part of the world at all. Don't get me wrong, I actually quite liked that detached feeling but was it intentional. Or did it just happen without you meaning it to?
Thanks for your time!
Pranshu A.
Hi Ally, for starters i just ant to say my name is Alli also haha, anyway I was just wondering if you were thinking about making another book for the matched series. And another thing will you be making more books like this or maybe another series that goes with Matched but with different characters? Lastly I just want to say i L.O.V.E. your work and i hope you keeping writing!
hi!!!! i loved every one of you books. what advice do you have for new and aspiring authors on how to get noticed or published and any writing/editing techniques? you can email me at azeschka@yahoo.com thanks:)
First, I would just like to say the Matched trilogy was amazing! Secondly, I would like to ask if you were at all influenced by Lois Lowry's "The Giver." As I began reading "Matched," I noticed some serious similarities- more so than between any other dystopian novels I've read. Since "The Giver" has been a favorite of mine since I first read it, I wondered if you were a fan as well. Thanks!
Michelle
Dear Ally,I heard the competition for being a dystopian author is really tough. Did you have trouble publishing Matched?
I was also wondering if you have any other unknown work that you are thinking about publishing. Thanks!
-Mary Moody, Author of "The Many Tubs of Tom"
Hi Ally! I've always wanted to know more about Xander, especially after I read Reached - Is there any chance of a book just about Xander at any point?
Love your work, Amber.
hey Ally! i am your #1 fan! i have read the matched series twice! i LOVE it! me and my friend have read through them together. Anyway Love You! :D <3 <3 <3 Briana
Can you describe the process of getting your first book published after you wrote it?Also, did you always know you wnated to be an author, or did it slowly come to you as you grew up?
Hi Allly,
I want to be a writer just like you!
Are there any steps you use to write?
How do you think of your characters and the story?
I really love your books!

Hi, Mrs. Ally. I just wanted to say, I liked how well-written your books were, sadly, not many YA novels are like that. And, if you could talk to any of you characters, who would you talk with and why? What would you alk about?
I was wondering, just randomly, is there any reason for the different colors used in the bubbles on the three different covers? Like the green on Matched is like the green dress that Cassia has, but then what about the other ones? Also, are any of the characters based on you?P.S. Love the books! Thank you sooo much for writing them!
Hi Ally, I love your series and have been a big fan from the very beginning. I am a student in highschool and love writing. My question is, did you ever think your books would become as popular as they are and why did you want to begin writing in the first place?
Thanks for time!!!!!!
Lauren:)
Hey, Ive only just finished reading Matched, and I really loved it and I cant wait to see what happens next!!How did you come up with the pill idea because I think the whole memory wipe pill was really cool and I never saw that coming.
Why did you pick Hana as one of the pov's for requiem? Are you going to write any other books?
How did you come up with the idea to write the matched trilogy? I haven't read Requiem yet but I hope that hana won't end up with alex or julian.(just my thought) hope you can answer my questions, Cassy
Dear Ally,
Are any element of this book based on a real event?

Hi Ally,Aspects of your books were very heart-wrenching for the readers; as the writer behind the Matched trilogy, what was or were the most heart-wrenching parts to write?
