Mike O | 7 comments Tom Cruise. Now wait before unleashing a negative retort - Anne Rice followers jumped of buildings upon hearing he was to portray the vampire Lestat - the end result was a critically acclaimed performance that satisfied even the die hard Rice fans. Mull it over and then release the anti Cruise comments. Enjoy

message 202: by Mike (new)

Mike O | 7 comments and who did Anne Rice want to play Lestat? Rutger Hauer - strange but true.

Mary Gleason If you're just going on looks, I've always thought Anderson Cooper would be perfect. But, he probably can't act, so I think either Benedict Cumberbatch or Tom Hiddleston would be good, as long as they can get the accent right.

message 204: by Donna (new)

Donna | 5 comments So true. The accent is such a key part. I just imdb'd the actor who played Reese Witherspoon's husband in "Sweet Home Alabama" for the accent, but Josh Lucas may be whole package. Right age, right accent (not sure if it's real or not)and with lighter hair....Hmmm and I was so sure Benedict Cumberbatch was right.

message 205: by Scott (new)

Scott | 1 comments Every time I think of his honey southern drawl. I think of Matthew McConaughey. I think he would be great

I think McConaughey would be a great choice. He's really good in True Detective, the new HBO series. I think he's versatile enough to play a different kind of investigator, the kind needed to handle Pendergast's character.

message 207: by Derrick (new)

Derrick Smith | 1 comments I'm gonna be honest i have only read i think 3 and a half of the Pendergast novels, but watching this show called Face/Off brought back all the memories because of one man. I feel he would be the PERFECT Agent Pendergast, his name is Doug Jones. He's slender, he's 6'4", and he's pretty pale. I wonder if he could do a southern accent though. Look him up!

message 208: by Jiazi (new)

Jiazi Du | 3 comments The only one that I consider to be a good fit for Pendergast is Gabriel Mann. He's tall, slender, deceptively strong, blond, blue eyes, about his forties. I saw a couple of his photos online the other day, in which he wore crispy black suits and was staring defiantly at the camera. His gaze and pose in that photo gave me Agent Pendergast almost instantaneously!!

Olivia | 1 comments Hey guys love the cast ideas;

These are my picks for Pendergast....blonde hair, black suit, not too young, not too old, tall and lean, an air of sophistication and... being worldly. Also in my mind the character is incredibly attractive, in a unconventional way, so of course the three actors below are in my opinion are very handsome! What do u think??

James D'Arcy blonde

i also like the idea of Ralph Fiennes, and also what about....

Alexander Skarsgard;

message 210: by Kirby (new)

Kirby | 24 comments I had never considered Peter Facinelli, but could easily see him as Pendergast.

message 211: by Clover (last edited Mar 25, 2014 12:47PM) (new)

Clover | 2 comments I'm not trying to tear you down, but I think Peter Facinelli looked super creepy blond in those Twilight movies (I never saw any of them but did dpseason all the endless marketing) and I also think he is much too short. A very good looking guy, nonetheless but he doesn't scream "Pendergast" to me. And no, I have no better ideas.

message 212: by Lanie (new)

Lanie (icevamp) | 23 comments I actually have a Pinterest board that is my Pendergast Dream Cast. You can look me up as Lanie Wish or icevampwish on Pinterest to see it. Most are people/discussions I've been having in Team P on FB for the past few years.

message 213: by Jennie (new)

Jennie Brass | 1 comments I may be the only one, but I always pictured Jeremy Irons as Pendergast. Especially after seeing him in "Beautiful Creatures". Talk about honeyed southern accent.

message 214: by Janice (new)

Janice Mitchell (jannyfae) | 19 comments I have to agree with Jennie. Jeremy Irons is a knockout for Pendergast.

message 215: by Lanie (new)

Lanie (icevamp) | 23 comments As much as I like Jeremy irons, he's way too old. Pendergast doesn't age like we do - Doug & Linc put him in his late 30s-early forties. Some favorites are Benedict Cumberpatch and Alexander Skaarsgard.

boo hoo. I have to agree. my pick is alexander skaarsgard. he is dreamy!

message 217: by Lanie (new)

Lanie (icevamp) | 23 comments Hi Janice,
I love him, too. Cumberpatch is a very good actor, too, so I'm somewhat torn. Originally, my "pick" for Pendergast was Gary Oldman (this was back in 1998-ish) with Brad Dourif as Diogenes. You should check out my Pinterest board "Dream Cast for Pendergast". My first pick for Diogenes is Paul Bettany.

message 218: by Olivia (new)

Olivia | 7 comments I love the look of all the Brits suggested on this page. I have a bit of an issue (outside of their looks) of a Brit in this role. Yes, some are dreamy. I would pick Ryan Phillipe - make his hair really blonde and put him in a suit. He is versatile and in very good shape ♥

message 219: by Shane (new)

Shane (themre) | 3 comments If Anderson Cooper could act he would be perfect.

message 220: by Linda (new)

Linda | 2 comments The white haired actor from the French Series Engrenges (Spiral) would be perfect. I don't know his name. This will sound nuts to many, but I also think that Lyle Lovett with hair and eyes made up would be good. He has that tall, lanky, southern way about him...and he has done some acting.

message 221: by Donna (new)

Donna | 5 comments I think having an actor in good shape, misses one of the points of Pendergast. When you first see him, I always felt that his athletic ability was a surprise. You were not supposed to realize how well he could handle himself so that was part of his awesomeness when he kicked your butt and everyone else with you.

message 222: by Keith (new)

Keith M (keithm808) | 1 comments In the latter books, I pictured Jeremy Irons as Pendergast, especially when listening to the audiobooks voicing of Rene Auberjonois. I also thought of a younger Julian Sands but I do think Tom Hiddleston (Loki) seems like a good choice as a younger Pendergast/Diogenes. When I saw Jeremy Irons in Beautiful Creatures, I thought of Pendergast. and even in Time Machine,

message 223: by Greatunclegrandpa (new)

Greatunclegrandpa | 1 comments Definitely Benedict Cumberbatch. He has the perfect physical attributes and has shown success in playing eccentric characters. Look at him in Sherlock

message 224: by Linda (new)

Linda | 2 comments Yes, Cumberbutt (just what I call him for fun) would be very good!! He played that southern role in Osage County so well that for just a while I couldn't recognize him at all.

message 225: by Irene (new)

Irene | 2 comments Hi I just joined today Sept 24/14.. have been reading these books for a number of years....
What about Jason Isaacs... he played Lucius Malfoy in harry Potter. and had white hair combed back. was very good as Malfoy.
OR Christopher Walken... ust cus he's crazy enough.?

message 226: by Lacey (last edited Nov 19, 2014 12:07AM) (new)

Lacey Sheridan | 1 comments How about Benedict Cumberbatch? If people feel the blond hair is so important, BC can go there. He did it for Parade's End. I think the physical attributes are less important than the psychological ones. If Tom Cruise was effective as the blond, 6'5" Jack Reacher....

message 227: by Tom (new)

Tom | 5 comments I'd like a cast of:
Pendergast: Daniel Craig
Diogenes: Jeremy Irons
D'Agosta: Michael Madsen
Capt. Hayward: Angelina Jolie
Bill Smithback: Oliver Platt
Proctor: Jason Statham

If doing "Dance of Death," Count Fosco MUST be played by Tim Curry

message 228: by Chris (new)

Chris Wilson | 1 comments I find most of these suggestions for Pendergast shocking. it would ruin the movie. Get word out folks that Matthew Goode is Pendergast and if ever there is a movie, he should be pushed to audition. Just look at Matthew Goode in his Esquire Shoot and him with blonde hair as ozymindias in Watchmen movie. He's tall 6'2", Thin, Good looking and a good actor. He is our man folks so log his name into your brain and anytime this question appears shout Goode Goode Goooooooode!!!!

message 229: by Kate (new)

Kate Courtney | 1 comments I envision Leonardo Decaprio as Pendergast. The description works and I believe he is capable of pulling of the complexity of the character.

message 230: by Beth (new)

Beth | 10 comments CUMBERBACH............

message 231: by Tom (new)

Tom | 5 comments Matt wrote: "Robert Downey Jr would make a great D'Agosta"

I see Vincent as a bigger guy; hence my Michael Madsen suggestion. When I first read the description, I saw Madsen and have him in my mind ever since.

message 232: by Miloš (new)

Miloš Gojković | 1 comments Keith Carradine as Pendergast, only problem is that he's 65 years old... But anyway. Or Alexander Skarsgård

http://www.peoplequiz.com/images/bios...

Greg Grunberg (the telepathic cop from Heroes) as chubby D'Agosta would do nice.

http://www.imfdb.org/images/thumb/7/7...

Joe Manganiello would make a wonderful Judson Esterhazy.

I like the idea of Deschamel and Krumholz for Kelly and Smithback.

Michael Emerson as Eli Glynn... he has those crazy eyes.

http://geek-news.mtv.com/wp-content/u...

Gina Bellman as Viola Maskelene, she's perfect for the role.

Lura Jane | 3 comments I suppose a blonde Matthew Goode is as good as any. Probably better than most; but the imagination is the best.

Lura Jane | 3 comments Kate wrote: "I envision Leonardo Decaprio as Pendergast. The description works and I believe he is capable of pulling of the complexity of the character."

He would not be a good Pendergast!

Jeremy Irons is way too old. Aloysius is older than Diogenes. Jeremy Irons has got to be near sixty. He's just too old. And I can't stand Angelina Jolie, but that's more of a personality thing, she is okay as far as being an actor. But if she play Capt. Hayward I'm not sure I would even go to see it. But that's okay. The imagination is the best, hands down!

message 236: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Skousen | 5 comments Why have I thought that Wren was a man....? Isn't he the very ancient person in the basement of the NY Library?

message 237: by Donna (new)

Donna | 5 comments I always thought Wren was a man, too. What makes people think he is not?

message 238: by Tom (new)

Tom | 5 comments I'm in Donna's boat, too. Always read Wren as a man, have always pictured that way, too. Where is this coming from?

message 239: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Skousen | 5 comments I don't know, but when I go back into the books, Wren is described as a MAN, a very thin, very old, almost translucent man.

message 240: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Skousen | 5 comments Tom, I asked about Wren because in another thread, someone posted a female actress that would be great as Wren, and I was puzzled.

message 241: by Tom (new)

Tom | 5 comments No problem, Cynthia. Glad you tracked that down.

message 242: by Heather (new)

Heather | 4 comments Not sure about who would be a good Pendergast. Benedict Cumberpatch would be a good enough actor but I can't see him as I see Pendergast. Andrew Scott would make a perfect Diogenes and Eva Green for Constance.

message 243: by Marlene (new)

Marlene Watson | 1 comments I know everyone will disagree, but Johnny Depp has the talent and quirkyness to play almost any character. He would be a good Pendergast.

message 244: by Bruno (new)

Bruno Madsen | 3 comments Unfortunately, he’s not an actor but I can’t think of anybody who looks more like my idea of Pendergast than singer Joe Jackson. If we can find a good actor who looks like him that would be perfect.

message 245: by Heather (new)

Heather | 4 comments Are you for real???? Pendergast is very pale almost translucent with silvery coloured eyes.................

message 246: by Bruno (new)

Bruno Madsen | 3 comments Joe Jackson, particularly in his more recent pictures has white hair, he’s pale and could easily be made paler and with contact lenses could have silvery eyes. The thing is he’s weird and slightly creepy looking. Pendergast is always described as looking like an undertaker. Jackson’s not an actor so don’t sweat it, but an actor with a similar ‘look’ would be great. I’ve always thought someone with David Bowie’s look would be great too. The thing is he shouldn’t look like someone who can kick your ass. And yeah... I’m for real. By the way, I totally agree with your pick for Constance. Eva Green was awesome in Penny Dreadful. http://www.newyorker.com/culture/sara...

message 247: by Heather (new)

Heather | 4 comments Sorry - I did a google search and got Michael Jacksons Dad - hence my reply!
Do you have a link to Joe Jackson?
And I totally agree with the way you imagine Pendergast.
And definitely Andrew Scott for Diogenes - he would be perfect.

message 248: by Bruno (new)

Bruno Madsen | 3 comments LOL, no wonder you were questioning my sanity... the link below is to Joe Jackson the singer. Probably the best picture of him that has a Pendergast feel (a little bit alien looking). While I still think he’s got the right kind of features, he’s probably not as ‘intense’ looking as Pendergast probably should be. Someone else who would be great if she was a guy... Tilda Swinton.

http://www.newyorker.com/culture/sara...

message 249: by Heather (new)

Heather | 4 comments I see what you mean.
I imagined him as looking a little bit like Niles from Fraser.....
It would have to be someone who is a really good actor!!

message 250: by Walker (new)

Walker Haymaker | 1 comments Aloysius- Tom Felton (depp would have been good but age)
D'agosta- Gerard butler, Jon hamm ( Crowe would have been perfect but age)
Laura Hayward- Jessica pare, Alison Brie, Alexandra daddario
Diogenes- Tom Hiddleston
