Shanna_redwind | 228 comments I just read The Garden of Happy Endings where the main character's sister loses everything (house, money etc) and has to reassess her life and re-learn how to live.

I'm looking for books of material loss, where a person has to make do with very little, focusing on that day to day struggle if possible. Fiction or non fiction.

A Thousand Splendid Suns has a similar story arc. Painful to read at times, but well worth the effort.

Nicole 3 books that I can think of that fit material loss and day to day struggles are:

Gone with the Wind
I Capture the Castle
Grace at Low Tide

I do enjoy fantasy, so I'll give that one a try, thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. Grace at Low tide and I capture the Castle are exactly what I'm looking for, I think. I've never considered reading Gone with the Wind. I guess I should.
