Hope I didn’t offend with my terminology. I used the term “drunks” before you guys really know me or my personality. I’ve worked in healthcare so long I get a little loose with judgment in some areas. I love to have a social drink with friends and a full pour of Pinot Noir is heaven with a steak. I get disjointed with people who risk my family’s life by drinking irresponsibly. Hope that clears up what I intended to say about this holiday. I love the 4th, but as I age, I prefer to be at home with a book. I stand by the pepper patch comment. 😊

I took the leap. I ordered a paperwhite kindle yesterday. I’m excited. Thanks for all the feedback about them in the last few days.
I was camping in the Chiricahua National Monument for the 4th (which is also my anniversary!)Incredibly beautiful place and time!
We are going camping as soon as we get back to MT. I really miss it. It’s 110 today here in the valley. We are too hot to swim!
@Christine. It’s funny because I think it costs more to “rough it” than to stay home. lol. We always spend too much money fueling the boat and the camper. This summer we down sized after I stopped working. No boat and no camper, so it’s tent city for us. I don’t mind a tent, but I’m not too keen on not being at the top of the food chain. Every year in Montana people are eaten and you really don’t hear about it if you don’t live there. I scared the hell out of me. I won’t go too deep in because of that fear. My husband says we are more likely to get attacked by a Mountain Lion (Cougar) than a Grizzly, but o don’t care for either choice.
@judy I think I'm at the bottom of the food chain right now when it comes to mosquitoes. Evil beasts!!!
I am LOVING the paperwhite. Went into the e-library. I don’t have to leave my house!! They have everything!! This is fantastic. I bought a very nice leather cover and it feels like I’m holding a book. I wish it had a page curl like my phone had. It just makes me feel like I’m turning a page. Something oddly satisfying about that.
We are hit and heavy packing. Having a giant dust storm right now. I did manage to finish In Cold Blood by Capote and almost finished with Beneath a Scarlett Sky. My husband is annoyed when he sees me reading. Lol. Going to read my Pachinko buddy read this evening. We head out tomorrow for Montana.
Good luck Judy. The dust storm sounds awful. On another note, I really like the new Android app. There's still work to do and features to add (spoiler tags management, add book/author) but it's still so much better.
I made it to Montana! That drive was brutal and beautiful. We drove through West Yellowstone. I’m a little scared to unload and check for damage, but it’s only stuff and stuff doesn’t make a home.

Well, we are getting down to the wire for 2017 choice awards. How did everyone do on their list?
I am at 17 and I am listening to one on audible right now, Artemis
I have The Fourth Monkey on audible and that will be next.
I also own Roses of May, which would round me out at 20 for the year. That was my actual goal, so should everything go smooth, I will make it.
Just finished my 31st book today (I'd set a goal of 30 for GCA books)
I'm assuming you're talking about this group challenge rather than the general GR challenge?
If it's the latter I've just finished my 125th book and my goal for that is 150

I have one book left to finish my Choice Awards challenge of 20 books.
I surpassed my yearly GR goal already. I thought I was going to have some stuff going on the second half of the year that was going to take up a lot of my time, but it didn't happen. So, I set my goal lower than usual at 70 and I've read 78. If I didn't expect to be busier this year, I probably would have set it at 90 and I don't think I'll make that, though I should be close.

Yes, I meant choice awards for last year, but cool about the general challenge. I have read much less this year than the last few years. I am not quite sure what happened. I set my goal for 85 and I am at 69.
I read less this year too, Vicki. I’ve read over 100 the last couple of years, but will likely only get to 80-something this year. I’m not sure what happened. I seem to be distracted from my reading lately.
I had such a bad reading year in 2017 that I set my goal to 10 than to 15. I read 17 so far for my choice award and 74 for the overall GR challenge. :D
