Chit Chat
I haven't managed to stay up till midnight for years now (so glad I escaped the European new years eve craziness). we're staying at a tiny cabin up in the mountains till tomorrow .. So I'm planning to hike a little through the snow and then sauna ... and get started on station eleven. I don't want to go home tomorrow ...
Oh! And I intend to put up the poll for next month's Choice Award buddy read too! lol So, I'm not escaping Goodreads entirely for the day. :)
Happy New Year to everyone, have a marvelous reading year :D!I spent today on doing some house chores (fortunately, minor ones) and family dinner. The evening will be spent on reading :).
I had such a lazy day today! I can't remember the last time I had a day with nothing to do. I loved it. I finished off 2 books today and only have 46 pages to go to finish one more! Phew.

Anyone have issues with the GoodReads security today? I can't access the site unless I access it without the safety certification.
Kirsten wrote: "Anyone have issues with the GoodReads security today? I can't access the site unless I access it without the safety certification."Yep! I sure am!
Lynn, it isn't trouble getting on the site, it's just that when trying to get to the site, at least for me, a drop down menu shows up stating it cannot verify the security certificate and do I want to continue on without verifying the certificate.
I don't know if anyone is interested in Australian YA, but if you want a good laugh... just read the reviews: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
Gotta love the weather around here! All last week it was in the low 20s, then overnight Sat/Sun we had snow and it warmed up to over freezing. Yesterday, I woke up to massive gusting winds and 54F degrees and no snow. This morning it's back down to the mid-30s!
that Australian ya novel sounds interesting. your link however takes me to Harry potter, kirsten! which is a great read too in case there are still people out there who haven't read it ;)
Because I was in Paris yesterday and still am today, i have to say "Je suis Charlie". Though catholic, I am not a religious person, i live in Morocco and witness everyday how beautiful their faith is. Lets not confuse this hate crime with any religion involved. Stupidy and ignorance are the enemies. GR is not for sharing that kind of information but since my country is in such a shock i wanted to share a little. :)

Savanes wrote: "Because I was in Paris yesterday and still am today, i have to say "Je suis Charlie". But we have plenty of religious nut-jobs here of the Christian variety.
My faith is just that - MINE! I don't foist mine on you, and I ask for you to do the same. PLEASE!

And any time someone talks about tolerance, I'll sing their praises!
I wonder if anyone might have advice for me. I would like to travel somewhere this year, but because my husband does not want to travel any more - his age, the airlines, being sick for a month after returning home - I have decided to go somewhere by myself. I am thinking of a small boat excursion (we've been on Viking and several cruises) or a motor coach tour (we've done 2 on Globus). We've been to Alaska, Cancun, the Bahamas, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Paris, Prague, and other cities on the River Excursion. I've been through much of the U.S., including Hawaii, and want to go somewhere outside our borders. Because I am planning to travel as a solo traveler, my choices are limited - many trips are for double occupancy. I don't want to room with anyone. I need to be careful of my budget, I'm retired. Timing would be some time during 2015 for probably 8-10 days. I love other cultures and would like to experience somewhere interesting, hopefully warm. And safe! I'm not young any more, but I am young in spirit, and I need the security of being in a group. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I might look into booking a trip? And no, I'm NOT looking for romance, just culture and seeing the sights.
I can't help with specific companies Diane because I'm in the UK rather than the US but I think you need to be looking for something like this http://www.solosholidays.co.uk/
There are plenty of other companies like this available for the UK so I can only assume it's the same for the US. Just do a google search, which is what I did :)

Dear Diane:
I wish I could be you! You've gone to many places! That's amazing!
Sincerely, Paulina
P.S. I don't have any recommendations (wish I had one, though), sorry

Thanks for the info, Lynn. I spent some time this morning Googling solo traveling and found a number of sites that look promising. Tomorrow I'm starting with a walking group to get myself ship-shape for traveling. The timing is good for making plans!
Diane - I'm not sure if it would be what you're looking for, but there is a 7-day cruise out of Boston or New York to Bermuda. I'm also not sure if you'd have to pay for double occupancy room though. It might be worth looking into. www.ncl.com/vacations/bermuda-cruises...

Last night my boyfriend offered me as a birthday gift an enigma (among other things)... There are 3 rules, I can read the enigma once to one person only, I can't talk about the content to anyone else (no other external help), I'm allowed to ask 3 and only 3 questions to my good friend google. For the moment I didn't find the answer and I only used google once! Pressuuuuuuure and frustration!

So the answer to the enigma was sapphire and I got an engagement ring yesterday! :)))))))))))))))))))))
How fun to make you work for the proposal. Sounds like you have a great fiancé. I wish you much happiness and many good years together. BTW, is he a reader?

Savanes wrote: "So the answer to the enigma was sapphire and I got an engagement ring yesterday! :)))))))))))))))))))))"Wow, congratulations!!! What a clever way to propose ;), all the best to you two!!!
Thank you to all of you!!!! @Kristie: it is a sapphire ring and love everything about it! Since then I read a lot about the meaning of sapphire and its "special powers" and I love that he chose that gemstone.
@Diane: He's great, that's why I said yes ;) He is a reader so we exchange a lot about books.

I felt a bit crummy this morning too and I didn't even go out! Mine was more just not getting enough sleep. Hope you have plenty of water today and some Paracetamol and feel much better.
Anyone have plans for today? I am not working, so my fiance and I are taking a drive up the coast and going to brunch. This afternoon we are going to a movie and planning some summer day trips (have to get them in the calendar early!), then I'm going to catch up on some reading. Nice relaxing day! (for a change! It's been unbelievably busy here recently.) What about everyone else?
