message 1554: by Becca (new)

Becca (becka_anne) Hi everyone.

I am currently creating an adult ladies only group and wondered if anyone was interested in being a moderator and helping set up the group.

I have a few ideas about the group but could really use a hand getting it started and thinking of some great ideas.

Please PM me if you are interested :)

So, I've been spoiled by Audible. I usually play my Audible books at 1.25 speed (or occasionally 1.5) now when I listen to other audios, such as the free ones from the library, I feel like they are so slow and take so long! Yet, I don't want to purchase all of my audios, if I can get them for free. Anyone else speed up their Audible books?

message 1556: by [deleted user] (new)

I speed mine up for sure. I find the same thing they are so slow otherwise!

message 1557: by Portia (last edited Jun 17, 2014 10:12AM) (new)

Portia So -- The Goldfinch as narrated by Alvin and The Chipmunks ? Hmmm^^-)

message 1558: by Ioana (new)

Ioana | 129 comments I have to admit, I never tried to speed up the audio books. Most of the times I like the voice, the narration itself, why would you want to speed that up?

message 1559: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
I never did until I had a narrator that spoke soooo slowly. I am a slow reader and at 1.25 speed he was still narrating slower than I read. I have found that some narration I can speed up and others I can't, depending on the voice. I know people that listen to their audios at 2x or even 3x speed. That sounds like the chipmunks to me! Lol

message 1560: by Ioana (new)

Ioana | 129 comments Hmmm, I see. When I don't like a narrator, I move the book to the "try-book-version-not-audio" shelf. I never thought of speeding up the audio, maybe I should try that.

message 1561: by ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (new)

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 1002 comments I'm listening to Doctor Sleep audio on my way to work.
I don't remember who the narrator is but every "s" is a whistle. It's definitely taking away from my enjoyment of the book, I'm thinking I'm going to have to switch to paper.

That sounds bloody annoying!

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 1002 comments IT IS!

With the Dresden books, James Marsters was pretty slurpy annoying in the beginning too.
But that was NOTHING compared to this.

Hahaha..it took me a while to get used to Marsters mouth noises. Lol

I've always wanted to listen to the Harry Potter audios but everytime I've looked they've always been so expensive.

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
I could get them for free from the library on CD. Or maybe slowly through Audible credits.

I have read the Harry potter series twice but have never listened to rye audio audios. Next time I want a re-read I will check them out :)

2 books, same cover... I've never seen this before. I noticed this when going through GR giveaways.
Weird.

Curious if anyone else has ever found a twice-used cover as well...(?)

I've seen a bunch of duplicates. One of the clubs I'm in has a thread for it. I think there's a listopia list of them too.

message 1583: by Amrutha (new)

Amrutha | 10 comments Hi everyone, I added the wrong book to my 'currently reading' shelf. Does anyone know how to get it off the shelf. I tried doing a batch edit, but the changes are not getting reflected.

Can anyone help??

message 1584: by ElvenRaven (last edited Jul 07, 2014 04:35PM) (new)

ElvenRaven | 244 comments Amrutha, if you're trying to get it off your shelves completely, just go to your currently reading shelf and click on the little X on the right of the row the book's on. (You'll get a confirmation message)
However, if you're just trying to get it off that shelf and put it on another one, look for the "edit" button on the cell where it lists the shelves the book's on (a little to the left of the X button). When you click it you'll see a drop-down list of your shelves, just tick the ones you want your book to be on and un-tick the ones you don't.
Hope I could help!

message 1585: by Amrutha (new)

Amrutha | 10 comments Thank you Cin. I could remove the book from my shelf now.

I've pulled a muscle in my neck and I'm in sooooo much pain :( Which has also resulted in no sleep for the past 48 hours (apart from the odd 10 min nap that I manage before I move in my sleep and the pain kicks in again).

I'm feeling very sorry for myself.

I did however have an appointment today and tried acupuncture for the first time. It seems to have helped! Not totally fixed the problem (I have another appointment on Friday) but I do feel better.

Let's hope it helps with the sleeping ::fingers crossed::

Today is the first day that I can pick up a book without having schoolwork or an upcoming semester to prepare for that I have had in over 2 years! It is such a relief to be able to read anything I want to without feeling guilty for putting work aside! :)

Well I was a unsure about acupuncture but I'm a total convert now. The difference between what I was like yesterday and today is amazing.

I'm back tomorrow morning for another session as I'm not totally sorted yet, however I'm so much better than I was and I actually managed to sleep last night! :)

message 1599: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Wow, that is a great news, Lynn. Good to know that it help. I am rather reluctant to use it, but after your experience, I may give it a go next time.

So glad to hear your feeling better, Lynn! I know a few people that say acupuncture really helped them with various things.

Thank you, Anima!

Thanks, Portia! They are congratulating me because I finished my master's degree and can finally read books without having homework waiting.
