Thank you for all those tips Cherene. I will look into "luzme" to check whether it works in France. :)

The actual online jobs, that work, are freelance writing. You submit writing for pennies and are paid per hit. Just check out article websites for submission guidelines.

Otherwise, there's sites that let you write ads for pennies to a dollar.

Thankieee

Finally broke down and joined Audible! I've had the app on my phone forever, but I didn't want to pay a monthly fee when my library has so many titles. I've noticed recently that there have been several scratched discs and a couple titles that I definitely want that are not available, so I figured it was about time to join. :)

message 1311: by Anima (last edited Feb 01, 2014 03:05PM) (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I joined audible three months ago and I'm really satisfied, they have a wide variety of books and due to membership you can save a lot of money. I use one credit a month and so far I mainly listened to Harry Dresden books, but now I'm planning to listen to Hexed (Iron Druid Chronicles #2).

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
That's exactly why I finally got the membership! I am listening to the Iron Druid Chronicles, but my library only has the first three books on audio. I had to join to get the rest of them. I am listening to Hexed right now! :)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I LOVE AUDIBLE!! I've been a member for years. They used to give away a lot of free stuff. But this Daily Deal thing is going to make me broke!!

Only problem is I've got so many books in my Library I haven't read yet!

Audible was designed by Amazon. What kindle so you have? I have speakers and a headphone jack on my HDX.

message 1323: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments Oh here: "The Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite 2nd Generation, and Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation do not have audio capabilities and will not be able to play Audible audiobooks."

It also works with a bunch of Apple Ipods, Windows Media Player, and Itunes, if that helps.

I'm listening to both of those on audio as well! I'm fortunate that my library has the Dresden series, so I will get the Iron Druid series on Audible. Iron Druid is a great audio series. The narrator has a special voice for Oberon (the dog) and the things he says, with the narrators timing and tone, literally make me laugh out loud sometimes. :)

message 1327: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments That's what I've heard about Oberon's voice and it made me think about getting it from audible :), I think I will try this one as I know Harry in audio version well, and I feel like trying something new :)

Thanks for your opinion, Kristie!

message 1328: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
You're welcome! Definitely try the audio. :)

message 1329: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Audible wasn't designed by Amazon. Amazon **bought** Audible. Many Audible customers were upset. That and they were upset when Amazon bought Good Reads. Audible has apps for all the different phones. My old Kindle Wi-fi (w/ Keyboard) was able to play the audiobooks. But now I've got the Fire and it's even better. I can even download the Overdrive app for both phone and kindle. I prefer doing it on the kindle.

message 1330: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments I thought audible was their platform to Amazon, my mistake. I remember when Amazon bought Goodreads. In some ways it was disappointing.

message 1331: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Yeah, I've heard a lot of crap. But personally I haven't noticed anything. I've been a member of Audible for years before they were bought. It does make things easier to manage my account with Amazon. It's much better integrated.

I just remember the battle against "censorship"if Goodreads deleted reviews because they trashed authors. For the most part, it is a wonderful community of passionate, intelligent people, but you have to wonder if its ever increasing popularity will lead to more of a reddit format.

message 1334: by ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (new)

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 1002 comments I am irritated...
I get that shipping and handling costs money. I get that if you were giving away 100 books there could be substantial shipping costs...
But there are SO MANY giveaways on Goodreads for 1 or 5 books I can't enter. I see my friends in the USA enter. I'm in Canada.
I think it's crap. Authors have fans everywhere, if you are hosting a giveaway, be equal & fair to ALL your fans!
I know my chances of winning are 0.007% but that isn't the point.

Hi everyone! Audible is having a big sale right now. They have 206 books that are the first in a series on sale for $4.95 ea. I'm thinking about picking up a couple to have a few in my library as extra books. I'd love some of your thoughts on the available books. Some of the titles I'm looking at:

Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi Leviathan (Leviathan, #1) by Scott Westerfeld The Goddess Test (Goddess Test, #1) by Aimee Carter The Fairy-Tale Detectives (The Sisters Grimm, #1) by Michael Buckley Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa I Am Not A Serial Killer (John Cleaver, #1) by Dan Wells Tiger's Curse (The Tiger Saga, #1) by Colleen Houck Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1) by Gail Carriger Croak (Croak, #1) by Gina Damico

Ok, I know that's a lot. Do you see any that you loved? Hated? Let me know. I already own Daughter of Smoke & Bone and The Iron King on paperback. I might get to them sooner on audio, but I'm not sure if it's worth spending the extra money to get it in a different medium.

I can only vouch for "Dead until Dark" in that bunch. The beginning of the sookie stackhouse books are the best. Other than that I've got "shatter me", "Daughter of smoke and bone", "leviathan", "uglies", "hush hush", "the iron king" and "Etiquette..." on my TBR list as well :-)

Dead until Dark is a really good audio (and a really good series).

Other than that I have READ Leviathan and Uglies. Scott Westerfeld is one of my favourite YA authors (although The Midnighters series is my favourite of his - The Secret Hour (Midnighters, #1) by Scott Westerfeld Touching Darkness (Midnighters, #2) by Scott Westerfeld Blue Noon (Midnighters, #3) by Scott Westerfeld )

message 1346: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I have Uglies, and I really liked it, The Etiquette and Espionage is a fun steampunk novel with a young lady as a character, I think it is similar to Flavia De luce series, but in a steampunk environment. I liked it. Leviathan is also good, but it takes place during the 1st WW, and it is also a steampunk novel.

Thank you. I think I'm going to start with Dead Until Dark and I'll decide what else later. Maybe Uglies?
