Julie Just wondering if anyone else is waiting on the new kindle paperwhite? I feel like I am cheating because I have always gone with the nook. I have the nook tablet now but looking for new ereader and kindle paperwhite seems to fit with everything i want in an ereader.

message 1057: by Renee (new)

Renee | 72 comments I have a kindle paper white and a kindle fire. I love that I can read the paper white outside, on the beach and with sunglasses. It's also very light weight. I've never used a nook so I can't compare to that.

message 1058: by Julie (new)

Julie I used to have to get a physical book when going on vacation just because tablet screens do not allow for beach reading and this tablet is getting heavy! I also read more on strictly ereaders because i tend to get distracted with checking goodreads or emails.

message 1059: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I have kindle paper white and I love it, first of all you can read no matter what light is in the area where you read - you can have a full light on the beach, or just a minimal light in a dark room. What's more I can read in bed without the lamp on, so I do not disturb my hubby as I usually read late at night.
I haven't got a chance to check other ereaders, but I don not feel such need :)

Re:kindle - I absolutely love it for all the same reasons Anima stated. I do most of my reading outside and it is perfect. I have a friend with a kobo and I find she can't get a lot of books, and the kobo deals are not as good as Amazon. The kindle is just a great product and well supported by Amazon.

message 1061: by Linda (new)

Linda (mspianobug) Does anyone get stressed about the length of their tbr list?

I have a kobo and love it. I actually have three kobos. Can buy books and more importantly, I can borrow ebooks from the library. Still have my favourite "real paper" books too though.

Have a great day everyone.

Hey guys, so I've been missing (kind of) during September but the festival is now finished. It was a huge success but I now feel like I've been hit by a truck! Sooo tired and achey, my feet hurt so much they kept waking me up last night!

No rest for the wicked though, I'm about to throw myself in to my next theatre project (I'm part of the choir) for most of October http://www.pilot-theatre.com/?idno=1183.

How's everyone else? I feel totally out of the loop!

Congrats on the success of your festival Lynn! That must be such a relief.

That theater project looks interesting! I've considering doing something in theater a few times, but I'm a bit of a chicken. lol

message 1064: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Congrats! Glad to have you back Lynn!

message 1065: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Congrats on the success of the festival, Lynn!! And all the best with your theatrical project (my last such activity was in high school, but I loved it then!)

I'm starting my studies (American culture) tomorrow and I'm very excited about it.

OK...I need to vent a little bit. I pre-ordered The Rosie Project and Doctor Sleep from Amazon. They decided to combine some of my orders, I assume to save on shipping costs for them. (Doctor Sleep was supposed to be shipped separately and be here before the end of September!) Then, they sent it to me through some unknown delivery company. The box was supposed to be here by Friday, Oct 4, and it has not arrived yet! Plus, they just changed the shipping info to say that it was delivered this evening at 7:48pm and it wasn't. I was home all evening watching for the delivery and it did not come. I even checked outside the door in case they somehow snuck by me (and my dogs!), but nope, it's not there. I'm so mad!! Grrr...

And to make matters worse, I've been sitting here for the last hour trying to deal with a "missing package" instead of finishing my homework that is due tomorrow. I'm going to be up all night!

This is a true book addiction that you and the rest of us have . Thankfully , we have our Goodreads group therapy sessions . Hope you have a better day tomorrow :)

Yikes. Amazon has NEVER done that to me before. They usually send stuff separately even though I request together to get stuff out faster!
Demand a Gift Card! :)

message 1072: by DeAnna (new)

DeAnna Kristie, I hate u have to deal with that with Amazon. Luckily I've never had an issue with them either but I second the gift card demand. I do think they work hard towards customer satisfaction. good luck and hope u get your package/s tomorrow!

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Thank you everyone! I plan my reading schedule based on how much time I have, so getting a book a week or more later than expected can really affect what I read.

This is the first time I've had a problem with Amazon too and I hadn't even thought of asking for a gift card! I'm really more upset with the delivery company for not delivering it on time, then saying that they already delivered it when they didn't. It's so frustrating and dishonest.

message 1074: by Brightness (new)

Brightness (brightnessreads) | 429 comments Kristie I've rarely had problems with Amazon but they usually work really hard to fix mistakes. Ask for a gift card like the others suggested. I hope you get your books soon!

message 1075: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Thanks! I'm hoping they come today.

message 1076: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Kristie, good that your wrote about your experience, it is an importan lesson for my dealings with Amazon and other retailers, although I usually do not have many opportunities for it as it is difficult to get staff delivered to Poland LOL.

I hope your books will come soon as well. Keep my fingers crossed for the success with the gift card, too. You definitely should ask about one.

message 1077: by Sara (new)

Sara (sdingel) | 52 comments I ordered a history of the New Testament and apparently someone opened on the UPS truck saw that it was not only a book but historical reference the New Testament and still stole it anyway. Amazon was great they replaced the item I had it in two days

I emailed the delivery company and they did not respond to me at all. I emailed Amazon and they said that they would forward my email to the shipper, thanked me for letting them know, and refunded the cost of my purchase without my even asking! Plus, I received the package today, which is just in time to read on the shift I picked up tomorrow. :) So, it all ended well. Thank you all for your support!

@ Sara - That is terrible. It is so sad that there are people that do things like that. I'm glad you got it replaced!

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Most excellent Joanne!!

This weekend was our (Canadian) Thanksgiving holiday and I spent it up north at friends beautiful home. The fall colours were amazing in the countryside; we visited waterfalls and had a picnic out in the falls area and then we laughed and stuffed our faces and hearts with food, games and each other for a couple of days. It was so much fun!

I have been really busy with upgrading some of my certifications (First Aid, CPR, CPI, Safe Management, etc.) to start my NEW JOB!! :-) this Wednesday.

I've been studying text books more than general reading books for awhile. I've been so mentally challenged out, lol.

I start work on Wednesday at John Howard Society, an organization here in Canada that help convicts to reintegrate into society. There is so much legalese I have to learn that my mind had started going into shut down mode. There was also over a month of clearances and paperwork to get through in order to be able to be officially offered this job (I'm still going through the last one today...talk about down to the wire, lol).

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend :-)

message 1085: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Wow, Cathie, your description of the Weekend is really picturesque, I would like to spend such a friends-focused time :)

All the best with your new work, it sounds like a huge challenge, but offering a lot of satisfaction as well. Keep my fingers crossed for your success :) Let me know how was your first day :)

message 1088: by Cathie (last edited Oct 15, 2013 01:16PM) (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Thanks Lynn. Please keep good thoughts going as I am still not cleared yet; one more hurdle today to get through...although they have told me to show up to work for 9am tomorrow to start orientation. If this last piece of paper clearance doesn't go through, I won't have the job. Everything is soooo complicated nowadays to get a job. I have been going through this process since late August and they said 12 hours after my interview on Sept. 9th they were hiring me and wished I could work both jobs that are open, lol.

I wonder what ever happened to the days when someone went to an interview, it went well for both sides, the person was offered the job and they started within a week or so? Getting a good position even when you've been offered a job is more work than the actually job itself. And my nerves are jangled waiting for every process to be done with; a few times it looked like I wouldn't be able to start because of no paper clearance or funding from government not coming through for the organization, etc.

I will be so glad when I am actually finally at work, lol. Gawd, I vented, didn't I? :-)

message 1089: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments It is a healthy thing to vent from time to time LOL, I send good thought to you!

message 1090: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Thanks Anima and Haidji :-)

Well, mail has been and there was no final security clearance confirmation/RCMP so it looks like I start tomorrow without the needed final piece...maybe I can dazzle them with my personality and overshadow the paperwork, lol

message 1096: by Cathie (last edited Oct 15, 2013 02:54PM) (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Thanks Kristie :-). Maybe, maybe not; if anything is out there, an unpaid parking ticket, a complaint or mark from any commission/professional association, etc it will be turned down. Sometimes you don't even know what's on it (to clear it up) until it is refused. So prayers and good karma thoughts are still useful until the verdict is in, ;-)
