Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I love this hot weather...I wait all winter for it, so I'm not complaining.

You've turned into the real little sportie haven't you :-). Looks so good on you Joanne :-).

message 802: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I wouldn't say sportie, Lol! It's more of a beer league... or that's how I'm taking it!

I don't mind hot, but this crazy humidity kills me. It makes me nauseous, so this weekend I didn't eat much, which meant that my one drink this afternoon hit me hard!

message 803: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments humidity + a drink or two = feeling good for less than you do in the winter, lol

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Cin, Congratulations :)

I still have holidays throughout August and hope to read a lot, I have some books scheduled and others that just popped up during last week, so a lot to read :)

Savanes | 2107 comments I'm moving at the beginning of next week so I'm spending my weekend making boxes and being amazed at the TON of stuff I've been keeping!

Good luck Vanessa. I just moved 3 weeks ago myself...not fun. We're still half in boxes. (Now my partner's work, just told him that they may have to relocate him in six weeks! Ugh.)

message 814: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments I'm definitely getting rid of things but it's a hard task. You never know when/if you might need that tshirt you haven't worn for a decade... ;)

Ok back to boxes! Have fun every one!

message 815: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Kristie! THAT is horrible!!

message 816: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Vanessa, I hope it is not going to be too difficult and unpleasant experience! I moved last time two years ago and some of my books and other things are still waiting to be unpacked LOL

Kristie, that is unfortunate indeed!

I hope you are all well apart from unpleasant chores :)

And welcome Tay!

message 817: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Nooooo Kristie, say it isn't so?!! You have your own library heaven in that house...tell him to tell them "NO!". Unknowing is the worst turmoil.

Good luck with your move Vanessa. Apply the old declutter rule; if you haven't used it in the last 6 months get rid of it, or if it isn't something that evokes feelings of love, get rid of it. We keep so much "stuff" that doesn't create joy for us; things we hold onto just because.

Moving, I don't envy anyone that has to do this. Having owned a house for the last 12 years I have way toooo much stuff, including things from my parents home when they passed away...I know way too much about holding onto things.

lol Cathie. I know!! My library was the first thing I unpacked! I love my little library. We should know for sure within 2 weeks. It's not our first choice, but it may end up being our best choice. We'll see...

message 819: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Keep us posted Kristie.

Cathie, I applied the rule but modified the timing slightly (past two years oooops).

message 820: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
I will. Thanks. And you did better than I did. I have things in storage that my kids used, that my grandkids MAY want to use someday. And wouldn't it be tragic to get rid of that stuff? lol I may have to try harder next time. ;)

message 821: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I have my kids stuff (well some of it) but they're in the category of things that invoke feelings of love so their ok :-).

I use to hold onto everything because it was family things, even if when remembering/seeing them if would remind me of pain or guilt or unhappiness, etc. It was like i had not so nice ghosts all around me just because they were things from my past or memories, etc. When someone told me about the use it, lose it or is it a smooze it(ie love) motto, it helped me so much in starting to get rid of things. Notice I said started to...I still have way too much junk in my life

Just got back from a book expo and purchased a few books. It was fun to meet and chat with so many great local authors. They were all quite friendly and signed my books for me. :)

Books that I got:
Living by Ear
Back to Grace
The Boss of Hampton Beach
Manisses
Bashert
Yorick
and
The Adventures of Keeno & Ernest: The Banana Tree for my grandson, who is currently sleeping in my library snuggled up with my Cat in the Hat. :)

message 823: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments I'm jealous Kristie!

Also...

I have to say it, even though it will offend someone, how are we supposed to want to give authors like Amanda Hocking our respect and time when she brags about writing her novels in 2 weeks?

message 824: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments So, it's another long weekend here in Canada and I've been out in the sun most of the time. I love summers, so many long weekend holidays and wonderful weather too. We had our Caribana (Carribean) Festival this weekend; it is an international festival focusing on Carribean music and costumes and dancing and food and we get people from all over the world attending it.

Huffington Post did a nice cover of it here: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/07/...

and the official website of Caribana is here: http://www.caribanatoronto.com/

I love my city! :-). What did you all do this weekend?

message 825: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Oh Cathie - That sounds like it would be a great time to take a fun-filled long weekend vacation up there. :)

I've been working on exams this weekend. Blah!

message 826: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Good luck with your exams Kristie :-). Yes, it is a wonderful weekend to visit Toronto during the Carribean festival :-)

Thank you! And I'll have to keep that in mind for next year when I'm so busy with school. :) Well....back to work.

message 828: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments When you're so busy with school, lol. I think that's a Freudian slip somewhere, lol.

Which exams are you studying for?

(And if you come up here I can give you a wonderful city tour, lol)

lol! Yes! Not* so busy with school. Oops!

I took a weeklong DBT workshop through the school, so I have an exam in that which I should have been done with already. Plus I am taking a differential diagnosis class and have a couple more exams before that class is over in a couple weeks. So, both exams are for fairly in depth classes.

And I'd love a tour! :)

message 830: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Great classes, from the sounds of them :-). Now...get back with studying, lol

There are tons of great spots that aren't highlighted in most tourist booklets and most are very little cash expenses that we city folk know about :-)

message 831: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Cathie, the festival indeed sounds fantastic :)

Kristie, good luck with your exams, I keep my fingers crossed for your success :)

I had a fairly quiet weekend with lots of reading done for various challenges :) And I have a fairly peaceful week ahead, hopefully with reading again, as I still have four weeks of holidays.

message 832: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments Exams in August? Childhood has molded me to reject that idea.

Cathie's city makes mine look inherently more interesting, but for being the 'melting pot' of Canada...

Um, well...

Someone got their bike stolen.

There was a beer league baseball game.

Oh, and I took a bunch of children and went to the waterpark.

On a happier, and sadder note, a friend of mine who moved to Turkey came down with her 2 girls and we spent some time together. Unfortunately she has left again and I am missing her very much.

message 833: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (bookhound18) I'm moving from Tennessee back home to Michigan this week. Excited! However, my body decided to come down with a nasty stomach bug over the weekend. Impeccable timing! Life is never dull! lol

message 834: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Wow, Alycia, it seems you cannot be bored, hope you overcome your 'bug' quickly and all the best with your moving plans!

message 835: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (bookhound18) Thanks, Anima! Definitely no boredom here! lol

Cherene - Yes. Exams in August is a bummer. I don't take breaks between semesters. So I have exams now, then the last two weeks of August off before starting back to regular semester classes. Can't wait to be through with formal schooling - I'm too old for this! lol

Glad you got to see your friend from Turkey, but it's always hard when they have to leave again.

Alycia - I hope you get well soon!! Good luck with your move. I just moved recently and it it not fun, even when you're not sick.

message 837: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (bookhound18) Thanks, Kristie! I agree, it's quite a chore!

message 838: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments I'm behind on the uptake, Kristie, what's your area of study?

message 839: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Counseling psychology. The two classes I'm working on exams for are DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) which is a specific therapy which focuses on clients with self-harm and suicidal behaviors and differential diagnosis which helps us to distinguish between diagnosis for clients.

message 840: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Good luck Kristie for your exam and Alycia for moving (with the stomach bug)

message 841: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (bookhound18) Thanks, Vanessa! I'm on the mend...by the time we leave this week, I should be completely recovered. ;)

message 842: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I went to the Oakville Waterfront Festival on Friday, and on Saturday I spent the afternoon at Mississauga Celebration Square watching 80s movies...I love the Goonies!! Yesterday, I spent the afternoon/evening with my guy 'friend' and we went to see R.I.P.D, which was funny! Today, I thought I'd be working since it's a Civic Holiday, but 30 minutes after I started I was told that I can have the day off...yay!! I'm using my unexpected free time to try and catch up on some reading, and some Goodreads!

message 843: by Maree (new)

Maree Berends | 17 comments I have spent the last month being really tough of myself diet and nutritionally and have been making sure I stick to it. I also have been making it to the gym 4-5 times a week as well as playing soccer. I love doing body attack and have a backs, legs and chest day at the gym with heavy weights. This week I have seen the results of my hard work finally! I dropped from 74.8 kg down to 69.5kg which is 164lb and down to 152lb. so fair to say I am on my way back down to my high school weight of 55kg or 121lb. I can't wait to see how I go in the next few weeks already have less sport induced asthma. Oh and I have started reading scarlet also. Just wondering if any other gym bunnies out there want to buddy read with me as I am a bit slower than everyone else with all of my extra activities during the week :) have a an awesome week everyone!

Thank you Vanessa.

Joanne - Yay to an unexpected day off! Gotta love that. :) And I love the Goonies too. I've seen that movie so many times. I want to see R.I.P.D. too. It looks so funny! I'm glad you enjoyed it. (With your guy 'friend'. Is this a new guy 'friend'?)

Wow! Congrats on the weight loss and getting in shape Maree! I keep telling myself that I need to start exercising, etc again, but I just haven't had the motivation. I'm always so impressed when people can stick to it.

I've been seeing him for 8 weeks, so not that new. But we have been taking things incredibly slowly. Or we had been, lol! New enough that we haven't put any labels on it yet...hence the guy 'friend' term! Lol!

message 849: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I am 52 kg. so losing weight isn't an issue for me. Now, firming up an old body is, lol
