Chit Chat

I don't mind hot, but this crazy humidity kills me. It makes me nauseous, so this weekend I didn't eat much, which meant that my one drink this afternoon hit me hard!

I'm done with my finals for now, so I'll have more time to read :D I have a lot of books planned for august :)
How's everyone doing?

I still have holidays throughout August and hope to read a lot, I have some books scheduled and others that just popped up during last week, so a lot to read :)

Are you being good and having a spring clean Vanessa? I hope it all goes well, moving is not an easy task!
Vanessa wrote: "I'm moving at the beginning of next week so I'm spending my weekend making boxes and being amazed at the TON of stuff I've been keeping!"
Good luck Vanessa. I just moved 3 weeks ago myself...not fun. We're still half in boxes. (Now my partner's work, just told him that they may have to relocate him in six weeks! Ugh.)

Ok back to boxes! Have fun every one!

Kristie, that is unfortunate indeed!
I hope you are all well apart from unpleasant chores :)
And welcome Tay!

Good luck with your move Vanessa. Apply the old declutter rule; if you haven't used it in the last 6 months get rid of it, or if it isn't something that evokes feelings of love, get rid of it. We keep so much "stuff" that doesn't create joy for us; things we hold onto just because.
Moving, I don't envy anyone that has to do this. Having owned a house for the last 12 years I have way toooo much stuff, including things from my parents home when they passed away...I know way too much about holding onto things.
Cathie wrote: "Nooooo Kristie, say it isn't so?!! You have your own library heaven in that house...tell him to tell them "NO!". Unknowing is the worst turmoil."
lol Cathie. I know!! My library was the first thing I unpacked! I love my little library. We should know for sure within 2 weeks. It's not our first choice, but it may end up being our best choice. We'll see...

Cathie, I applied the rule but modified the timing slightly (past two years oooops).
I will. Thanks. And you did better than I did. I have things in storage that my kids used, that my grandkids MAY want to use someday. And wouldn't it be tragic to get rid of that stuff? lol I may have to try harder next time. ;)

I use to hold onto everything because it was family things, even if when remembering/seeing them if would remind me of pain or guilt or unhappiness, etc. It was like i had not so nice ghosts all around me just because they were things from my past or memories, etc. When someone told me about the use it, lose it or is it a smooze it(ie love) motto, it helped me so much in starting to get rid of things. Notice I said started to...I still have way too much junk in my life
Just got back from a book expo and purchased a few books. It was fun to meet and chat with so many great local authors. They were all quite friendly and signed my books for me. :)
Books that I got:
Living by Ear
Back to Grace
The Boss of Hampton Beach
Manisses
Bashert
Yorick
and
The Adventures of Keeno & Ernest: The Banana Tree for my grandson, who is currently sleeping in my library snuggled up with my Cat in the Hat. :)

Also...
I have to say it, even though it will offend someone, how are we supposed to want to give authors like Amanda Hocking our respect and time when she brags about writing her novels in 2 weeks?

Huffington Post did a nice cover of it here: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/07/...
and the official website of Caribana is here: http://www.caribanatoronto.com/
I love my city! :-). What did you all do this weekend?
Oh Cathie - That sounds like it would be a great time to take a fun-filled long weekend vacation up there. :)
I've been working on exams this weekend. Blah!

Thank you! And I'll have to keep that in mind for next year when I'm so busy with school. :) Well....back to work.

Which exams are you studying for?
(And if you come up here I can give you a wonderful city tour, lol)
lol! Yes! Not* so busy with school. Oops!
I took a weeklong DBT workshop through the school, so I have an exam in that which I should have been done with already. Plus I am taking a differential diagnosis class and have a couple more exams before that class is over in a couple weeks. So, both exams are for fairly in depth classes.
And I'd love a tour! :)

There are tons of great spots that aren't highlighted in most tourist booklets and most are very little cash expenses that we city folk know about :-)

Kristie, good luck with your exams, I keep my fingers crossed for your success :)
I had a fairly quiet weekend with lots of reading done for various challenges :) And I have a fairly peaceful week ahead, hopefully with reading again, as I still have four weeks of holidays.

Cathie's city makes mine look inherently more interesting, but for being the 'melting pot' of Canada...
Um, well...
Someone got their bike stolen.
There was a beer league baseball game.
Oh, and I took a bunch of children and went to the waterpark.
On a happier, and sadder note, a friend of mine who moved to Turkey came down with her 2 girls and we spent some time together. Unfortunately she has left again and I am missing her very much.

Cherene - Yes. Exams in August is a bummer. I don't take breaks between semesters. So I have exams now, then the last two weeks of August off before starting back to regular semester classes. Can't wait to be through with formal schooling - I'm too old for this! lol
Glad you got to see your friend from Turkey, but it's always hard when they have to leave again.
Alycia - I hope you get well soon!! Good luck with your move. I just moved recently and it it not fun, even when you're not sick.

Counseling psychology. The two classes I'm working on exams for are DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) which is a specific therapy which focuses on clients with self-harm and suicidal behaviors and differential diagnosis which helps us to distinguish between diagnosis for clients.

Thank you Vanessa.
Joanne - Yay to an unexpected day off! Gotta love that. :) And I love the Goonies too. I've seen that movie so many times. I want to see R.I.P.D. too. It looks so funny! I'm glad you enjoyed it. (With your guy 'friend'. Is this a new guy 'friend'?)
Wow! Congrats on the weight loss and getting in shape Maree! I keep telling myself that I need to start exercising, etc again, but I just haven't had the motivation. I'm always so impressed when people can stick to it.

I've been seeing him for 8 weeks, so not that new. But we have been taking things incredibly slowly. Or we had been, lol! New enough that we haven't put any labels on it yet...hence the guy 'friend' term! Lol!

Maree ~ woohooo!! You go girl! What an inspiration you are!
