But, on the plus side, Toronto is one of the two cultural points of Canada! That and Vancouver. I live in Southern Alberta. It's the most uncultured place on Earth - even though it offends Albertan's when I say that. lol
Don't forget Montreal Cherene :-)You Albertan's have had a rough time of it this last month with all the flooding. Hope everything dries out soon.
ALberta has the Calgary Stampede!! That's pretty cultural. :-) And didn't you home grow K.D. Lang?
Does Cultural stand for really expensive, lol Cherene?I just for fun, went on the Lonely Planet website the other day and checked out hotels/hostels stays for various places and then checked out Toronto's. We are one of the most expensive places to live in and to visit. Ain't gonna find no $25 a night hostel stay here! Can't believe that some places in Belize you can stay for $8!!

It's going ok. Got everything to the new house, though it's mostly still in boxes. Fortunately, I have today off to continue working on it.
Best part - We have a small room that could not be used as a bedroom (no closet), so I turned it into a library! :) I put a futon and a bunch of bookshelves in there. There is a non-working fireplace in there too, which gives is a nice ambiance. I'm very excited about my little room!
Worst part - I managed to lose my cell phone in the move, which is just devastating to me. :( I haven't had it for about 4 days - my to-do list, schedule, contacts, etc (My Goodreads app!!) are all gone. I have not been able to find it anywhere, which is making things fairly difficult. I really depend on my phone to keep all my work, school, and home stuff organized. If I don't find it in the next day or two, I may have to break down and buy a new phone. Hopefully, I can get most of my info restored through the cloud.

Awww Kristie, sorry to hear about your cellphone :-(. What a loss we are at when we don't have technology right at hand; shows how much we have changed in the last 20 years, doesn't it?I hope you find it very soon.

I'm very excited about my library. :) I put three bookshelves in there and there is one built into the wall already, so it's perfect. Somehow I'm still managed to run out of shelves though! I should have told my family that they could not put their books in there. lol
Funny thing about the cell phone is that I was such a hold out when everyone else started having them. I was determined that I did NOT need a cell phone and I was the last person I know to get one. Now I am so lost without it! I hate the idea of being dependent on it, but I really am. I don't even have a house phone any more!

I know people who were the same way about cell phones Kristie and now none of us can live without them.I think it a way we have become dummied down and wonder what would ever happen if somehow satellite towers went down. I think that will truly be our next Ice Age.
Sort of like a World War Z scenario without the zombies...an apocalypse of information shut-down.
(I don't have a house phone either, only a cell phone)
@Kristie: I'm so jealous about your "room". However good luck with the move! I hate moving, I get in the way of everyone, I'm in such a bad mood, yeah moving is not my thing (but I would for a private library!!!).@Cathie: you should check out the TV show called Revolution. It's about a future without electricity. It looks kind of intense!!
I just found out that audible/amazon is releasing its French website. One audio book per month for 4,95€ ($6 US) for three month trial period. I'm undecided. I never listened to a book and I'm not sure I will enjoy it. I guess I'm used to reading! But I used to say that ebooks were evil so maybe.... What do you guys think? Have you tried?
I'm not a huge fan of audible books, but then again I don't like ebooks either, and will only choose the latter two if I can't get a hold of a hard copy quickly enough to suit my needs.Vanessa, see if Downpour.com http://www.downpour.com/ is available to you. This way you can listen to an audiobook to see if you like it, before signing up with any company.
Also, you can perhaps check out an audiobook at your library to see it you like a current or poplular book on audio.

I'm very similar when moving. I am very cranky the whole time I'm packing, moving, and unpacking. I just hate moving.
Thanks for all the wishes. The weather is sunny and warm, the sea is rather cold but still pleasant, I only do not have much time to read. Lol.@Kristie, I envy you this library room :).

Vanessa - I always have an audiobook on the go. It is just a matter of picking the right kinds of books. anything too heavy or with too many characters can be hard to follow. I listen to them while driving/cleaning etc. instead of the radio.www.audiosyncbooks.com has different free downloads over your summer, or www.librivox.org has free "classic" books, or I use my library which offers loans of audiobooks through overdrive and bolinda which you just downloads direct to your device. You may find your library has the same and that will save you buying a subscription to a website?
Girls, libraries here don't even have ebooks!!!! The only kind of audio books they have is the boring, pseudo cultural ones...Thanks for the links I will check them out. :)

@Kristie: When I moved back to France after 3 years of accumulating stuffs (that I didn't have the heart to throw of course ;)) in Montreal, my ex-bf asked me not to touch anything anymore! I ended up being in charge of the drinks, the pizza and a thank you massage. :)

I'm the one saying, "Don't touch anything else!!" lol As it is the few boxes he packed are all mislabeled and in the wrong rooms! Therefor, he gets very specific directions when something needs to be done and has been designated to organize the basement. :)

The Calgary stampede is just a combination of the most expensive entertainment, rodeo games, and amusement park rides available. In fact, because they decided to take a stand on their benefit to the city, they spent tons of money and time pumping out the stampede to host their show. At the expense of pumping out the residential areas? Some people tell me that this will bring work, etc. and we need it. In my opinion? We need small children to have a roof over their head, there's still plenty of jobs around the city.
The cheapest hostel I could find in Toronto was $25 - just from looking, I've never been - but I, and maybe I'm not adventurous enough, don't think I'd stay in an $8 Brazilian hostel. Especially with the sex trade being so rampant.
I'd be inclined to think the same way about a $25 hostel in Toronto as you do about an $8 hostel in Brazil, or like I said about one in Belize.Toronto has it's own very active sex workers and drug trade section; I think every society does where some of it's people are disenfranchised.
We got flash flooding here today. Cars stuck on highways, subways shut down, streets flooded, electricity out, basements flooded and sinkholes; just a taste of what you all had to endure for days.
Cathie, I hope you are save and sound in these circumstances. We had a few devastating floods over last couple of years and some people are still recovering.@Karen and Cathie, thanks for the links to audiobooks, I will check them after holidays.

Kathie and Joanne lol. I am terrible with adapting to my new phone :( haha. how did your run go after that Joanne? I have been having a daily do some exercise week. so far I have been Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and am very excited about maybe a double gym session tomorrow to give me an advantage next week with soccer. I don't think rum as tasty as it is Will help any of us exercise well lol :p
oh by the way I just finish a discovery of witches and also am reading cinder. loving cinder did not llike gone girl at all!
Funny - I thought Gone Girl was an enjoyable ride, but I am finding Cinder very predictable and a bit of a chore to finish!! ;)
I'm good in my part of the GTA Cathie. We lost power from 6pm to 3am, I forgot to turn the light switch off before I went to sleep so when the power came back on my room lit up like the illuminations! But today You actually can't tell that there was a storm where I am, but just a little east of me the ground under train tracks washed out, it took my boss 2 hours to get to work today! With the kids being off school I have less time to read and I've been a bad little Goodreader the past couple of weeks! I need to catch up on all the threads!
Thankfully, I live in a small town away from the river, so I was safe. My sister and my Mother were both evacuated from their homes though. Everyone I knew was safe, thankfully.
I am reading a Discovery of Witches now - I am really finding it hard to get in to. Funnily enough, the librarian said it was a better-written, more sexualized version of Twilight...
Interestingly enough, I am reviewing a male on male romance right now about a jerk cop that needs to see "the error of his ways." A lot of the reviewers are very disgusted with the narrators thoughts on people with disabilities - they're pretty cruel.So, that leads me to ask, do you have trouble reading subject material that is offensive? Or, do you think it's just fictional and read it without disgust?

However, I tend to be offended by authors who never take the risk to "offend" by staying in the "politically correct" field. That really gets on my nerve. It's the same with TV shows: lets put one gay couple and 2 people from minorities so that we fit the quotas. I hate that!
4002 members!!! Wow!!!How is everyones weekend going? I need a weekend to recover from mine, and it's been a sober one! Full of visits with friends, a girls night and a date night. I managed to steal a few hours this morning to get some reading in, but now it's time to meet a friend for lunch before softball practice.
Oh!!! And my big news....I REACHED GOAL!!! With Weight Watchers!! I mean my goal, not theirs. But still!!! I'm extremely proud, I did what I planned to in the time frame I gave myself :D

Congrats Joanne that's amazing.I had a great weekend. My little sister came to visit. We had dinner on saturday with one of our sister and her bf (we're 5 children) and we brunched with some family this morning. Good times!

Life just suddenly got busy, I don't know what happened! Lol! And with the kids off school, I'm exhausted at the end of the day! I have lots of time off in August so I'll be catching up on reading and Goodreads then!! Are you ready for the crazy heat this week Cathie? Humidex of 40s...argh!!!!
I had softball practice today, it was too hot. I managed my batting turn and my friends and then we skipped out and went to the pub!
