Sarah | 1467 comments I just came across this book today and really want to read it. It is getting extremely high ratings - 68% at five stars. The average was greater than 4.5 and already about 14,500 have voted. This is very very very impressive.

Gosh, I've not known this place be so quiet in a long time ..... where are you all? :)

This time tomorrow I'll be packed and ready to go on my holiday. I'm going to Italy (Val Pusteria, Northern Italy near the Austrian border) with my choir for an International choir festival, with 90 choirs from around the world. 5 days of performing and listening to other choirs.

We'll be performing in concert halls, churches, castle ruins and even on top of a mountain for one of the performances. Excited!

message 655: by Felina (new)

Felina Jealous! All we did in choir in high school was go to DC and sing at the Lincoln Memorial. It was cool but not Italy cool.

Aww... have fun Joanne! I have a not so fun weekend coming up - just packing, working, and reading for school. Next weekend is better - I'll be hosting my mom's birthday party! :D

message 664: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Your babies Joanne?? Tell more :-)

Alycia have fun :-)

message 665: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments From my first nanny job, I had them for 2.5 years from when the youngest was 6 months, so they'll always be my babies! I'm now on countdown to seeing them! Even though it will make me sad. Last time I visited my baby told me he misses me and wants me to go back which made me cry.

Have fun doing the tourist thing Alycia, that's always fun to do!

Kristie, will you have reading time this week, what with party planning?! :)

message 666: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Have fun Alicia!

Joanne - I have 3 crazy, busy weeks coming up. I have a weeklong school intensive all next week and I need to finish my reading before the class begins. Then I am hosting my mom's party on the 30th. (The planning is pretty much done, but most of the prep left will have to be done the day before.) Then, I need to finish packing because I am moving the next weekend (July 6, with Independence Day on the 4th!) And I have another intensive the week after I move with regular classes starting that week too. Phew! I think I'm going to need a vacation!! Not much time for fun reading at all over the next three weeks or so, but I'll be listening to my audio books on the way to classes and work so I'll keep up a little bit. I never thought driving would be my relaxing time!

message 667: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Wow, Kristie, this sounds like a hectic time ahead. Keep my fingers crossed for the success with the moving and other plans ahead.

Joanne, despite the sadness, have fun meeting your babies!

Alycia, have a great time doing a sightseeing. I love showing people around Warsaw, although I do not have many such opportunities recently.

I'm at home this weekend. Quiet time before the last week at school here in Poland. Next week I have an entrance exam for American Studies, and the end of the school year, with school gala and giving away certificates, so busy time for me.

message 668: by Felina (new)

Felina I just got done doing a Road Rally which was so much fun. Tomorrow we celebrate Father's Day (my dad hates crowds so we always do it one week late). So hopefully Sunday will be very chill. :)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Yes Anima, it is going to be craziness. I'll be very happy when the next three weeks are over. (Did I learn nothing from the Time Keeper?! lol) It looks like you have a busy week coming up too. Enjoy your quiet weekend!

Felina - Congrats on you Road Rally and enjoy your day with your dad. :)

message 670: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Thanks, Kristie and Felina, enjoy your Father's Day, we celebrate this day on the 23rd of June here in Poland, so we have some family meeting tomorrow :)

Cracking up laughing! I remember those dreaded visits and fast clean-ups...quick, put the dishes in the oven and all those clothes in the closet and spray that perfume around! FOFL!

message 675: by Felina (new)

Felina Exactly! It's worse because my mom is a clean freak and with three longhaired cats and a reading habit things get dingy pretty quick round these parts. I feel fairly confidant that if I gathered up all the fur around my house I could make another cat.

message 676: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments (Totally unrelated post.)

So, we were talking about a couple of us having writer aspirations. The other day, I'm thinking, I want to write a book called "My Best Friend, The Murderer," about two boys growing up together and one becoming a serial killer and it's affect on his relationship, etc. I could base the emotions off a dark time in my life when someone I knew killed a young girl - thankfully, we were only casual friends and not best friends.

I mention it to my boyfriend, in passing. He's obviously not listening because he thinks I'm talking about someone elses book and says, "booooooring."

... Ouch.

Now I'm nervous to articulate another idea I had. lol

message 677: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Cherene - I actually think that sounds like a great book. You should attempt it regardless of his thoughts. If he wasn't really listening, maybe he fully catch the idea either.

message 678: by Cathie (last edited Jun 24, 2013 07:38AM) (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments What Cherene? ~ one negative and you're willing to not live your dream - What's up with that? Expect to hear a lot of no's and then carry on doing what you want to do. No's are like the grains of sand; there are thousands, maybe millions of them. Yes's are the seashells and special little treasures you find as you walk along the sand. Just think of your no as being one step further into your journey and one step closer to seeing the next seashell.

Like Kristie said, it sounds like a wonderful idea. Go for it!

message 679: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) Cherene, you'll always have people who either don't like the genre/theme of what you write and people who will put you down regardless of what it is you want to do. I know someone who told her friend she was thinking of applying for med school and was told 'you're not clever enough for that'. It put her off doing what she wanted enough for her to miss the deadline. Don't let one naysayer get you down, I'd read it!!

message 680: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Cherene, I think your idea of the story is extremely interesting. I would read such a book gladly. So, if I may say something close to being a piece of advice (although sometimes we tend to avoid listening to advice given LOL) I would definitely try to write this book :)

message 681: by Felina (new)

Felina I'd read that book, Cherene. It would actually be very insightful since most books about serial killers are from the perpective of the killer or the police or the victim. I've never heard of one from just a friend or family member. There has got to be so much guilt and sadness on that side. Very interesting.

I kind of need you to write this book now.

message 682: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments There Cherene, you have already sold 5 books and you haven't even started to write it yet! Start :-)

message 683: by Felina (new)

Felina LOL. That's true.

message 684: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments Aw. That made me get all teary eyed. lol I have confidence writing issues. The biggest downside of writing as a dream is that my family and friends see it as a child's dream/pipe dream. You guys supporting this idea (and me) was very touching and inspirational.

Thank you. :) < I was going to add a little tear to that emoticon, but it seemed to be pushing it. lol

message 685: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments It just occurred to me how bad my boyfriend would feel once he found it had been my book.

message 686: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments The good thing about writing is that you can do it privately and nobody needs to know until you are ready to share it.

You have lots of support here :-)

message 687: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Agreed :)

message 688: by Felina (new)

Felina Is your boyfriend a reader? My brother doesn't read anything and thinks everything sounds boring. Nonreaders just don't get it. :)

message 689: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments He's a "man reader." He likes James Bound type novels. Mostly, I think he was just teasing me about the book because he was half listening and just thought I was bragging about one I was reading.

He lets me buy as many books as I want and never gets mad. lol He's sweet.

message 690: by Cathie (new)

So I'm back from my adventure! I'm just about recovered, I had a fabulous time but didn't read one page of a book as I was so busy.

message 693: by Lynn, Moderator (new)

Oh lord, every day had so many highlights! We fit so much into each day; singing in beautiful churches, standing ovations after singing Nessun Dorma in Italian to Italian audiences (and then being asked in the local bar to repeat performance), singing on top of the Dolomites Mountains .... and so many more!

When I have a bit more time (it's 11.30pm here and I'm back at work tomorrow ... booooo!) I'll try and share some thoughts / photos with you :)

message 696: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Cathie, It was brilliant!! Bittersweet though, I love seeing them but it makes me sad to leave them again. The eldest boy seems to finally be losing his anger at me for leaving them, last time he refused to speak to me! This time he was almost back to normal...just a little bit when I got there. My baby was well my baby again! It's funny how he slips straight back into that, I got some one on one time with him which was great! We went out for dinner, (so glad I wasn't paying!! My meal alone would have been $53+tax!) then we watched a movie and I put them to bed. My baby (I really need to stop calling him that), played me like a fiddle and wouldn't go to bed. It was hard as he knew that come morning I would be gone again :( Then I spent some time talking with their Mum, which was great catching up but it made for an incredibly late night.

message 697: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Joanne - That sounds wonderful! So nice that you had some one on one time and got to catch up with mom too. :)

message 698: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments The only thing missing was time with the boys step sister, her mum didn't drop her when she was supposed to so I ended up literally just tucking her in to bed...next time!! This was also the first time I didn't get teary when I left :)

And when I was taking a picture with my phone on Sunday I found around 10 selfies of my baby! Which made me smile and laugh!
