Joanne wrote: "There is also an app called Zombie, Run! That looks good, you listen to a zombie story and run when the zombies are chasing you! "

Ha ha ha ha, that sounds brilliant!

message 602: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Just finished an older classic In Cold Blood by Truman Capote . Spine chilling. 5 stars.

message 603: by Felina (new)

Felina I use Couch to 5K. I do like it but I feel like there are a few spots that skip over an important transition section. Like I'm doing really well and then suddenly I can't do it at all.

I had never heard of that Zombie, Run app but I just bought it. That is awesome.

message 604: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I was the same with c25k. Which is why I stopped. Now I do what my body says, sometimes that's running for 20mins straight, others it means short run/walk intervals. I also decided that I don't care if I'm having walking breaks....I'm still running! I'm still finishing the races. :)

message 605: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments You're progress is amazing Joanne! So proud of what you started and are continuing to do :-)

message 606: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Joanne, I admire your motivation and stamina. And this Zombie, Run app sounds really funny, but I would be scared to listen to it as well I think, I'm too imaginative LOL

message 607: by Felina (new)

Felina Usually when I listen to my body I just get lazy with it. My body always wants to stop and slow down. Ha ha. I've lost 27 pounds so that has definitely helped with what I'm capable of. It's much easier to run with 27 pounds less. ;)

I'm going to do the zombie app tonight. I'll let you all know how it goes.

message 608: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Thanks Cathie!

Felina, do you run on your own or with people? Have you done any races yet? I find that when I'm with people/in a race I have so much more motivation. Even though I'm still listening to my music, having other runners around is incredibly motivating. Sometimes when I'm on my own, I follow people so even though I'm not running with them I can pretend I am! ::embarrassed face:: And it is easier to run when you get lighter! I'm at 23lbs now and I have a lot more energy than I did 5 months ago!

Can't wait to hear about it!

message 610: by Felina (new)

Felina I don't run with anybody else. I have quite a bit of weight to lose so I know my pace is slow. I'm going to do the race with a couple of friends who are at a higher level than I am. I'm hoping to just be able to keep up in October. But I am now going to 'pretend' I'm running with the other people on the path. That's a good idea. I get to be all creepy.

message 611: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments You are a brave soul Felina; don't let those zombies get you!

message 612: by Felina (new)

Felina That's the plan, Cathie!

message 613: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Lol Joanne. I'd probably pretend to run with people too! I'm sure it would help my motivation.

Felina - Can't wait to hear your experience with the zombie app! Good luck! And even at a slow pace you're still ahead of those of us that aren't running at all.

message 614: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Ahem Kristie, all of us couch potatoes (er, spectators) are serving the very important function of cheering on our fellow athletes, lol.

message 615: by Felina (new)

Felina LOL.

message 616: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Felina, I like to say “i run slower than a herd of stampeding turtles...but I'm running!" You're moving and that's what matters. Yesterday, everyone passed me within the first km, but by the 3rd, I was starting to pass all the people who had flown past me. Well except for the proper runners...by the time I got to 3k, they'd all finished!

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Cathie wrote: "Ahem Kristie, all of us couch potatoes (er, spectators) are serving the very important function of cheering on our fellow athletes, lol."

::LIKE:: :D

message 618: by Felina (new)

Felina I like that Oo. Sometimes if I really dont want to exercise I'll watch a movie with a really badass chick like Milla Jovovich or Michelle Rodriguez and get all pumped up.

message 619: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Cathie - Lol. Not meant to be an insult! I'm also a spectator and great at cheering on. :)

Felina & Joanne - I'm quite certain that if I did run, I'd be the slowest there. I used to play softball (in a 30+ league) and I was by far the slowest out there.

Oo - That's a great idea too!

message 620: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Kristie, I attempted softball a couple of years ago...it was not a success!

message 621: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
I was pretty bad, but it was fun. :)

message 622: by Felina (new)

Felina So I tried the Zombie 5K trainer. It was pretty fun. My only complaint is that it does some dialogue and then when you're being chased it plays music from your music library. It's hard to feel the terror when Faithfully by Journey starts playing. I need to make a play list of scary and/or intense songs. Otherwise I quite enjoyed it.

message 623: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Felina, the theme of the Jaws movie would work very well!

message 624: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Felina, I have in mind some themes from Resident Evil LOL :), thanks for the update on the app, I think I can give it try as a starter :D

message 625: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Oo, I'm not sure if the congrats on weight loss were meant for me, but I'm rather a coach potato, so I would treat it as an advanced reward for my newly found need of doing something with my shape and keep fit in summer :D

Sarah | 1467 comments Cathie wrote: "Just finished an older classic In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. Spine chilling. 5 stars."

Another one I have really been needing to read. I think this book is supposed to be like the first of its genre, but I could be wrong about that.

message 627: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Nope you're right Sarah :-)

In Cold Blood is an excellent read.

message 629: by Felina (new)

Felina Resident Evil themes would be very fitting! I was also thinking some Nine Inch Nails. Ha ha.

message 630: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments NIN is definitely higly energetic :D

message 631: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments Oh my! (I'm starstruck) Did you guys know SE Hinton will be having a discussion here on Monday? It's about two of her other books, but, of course, everyone has been mentioning
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

Truth be told, I didn't even know she was still alive. But I'm excited that she is!

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Cherene - That's exciting! I believe she was a teenager when she wrote The Outsiders. I'm curious about the other two books now.

I just got an email from my professor stating that we need to have both of our text books and a variety of articles read before we start our weeklong intensive in a week and a half! Such a bummer. There goes most of my fun reading. I hope I can get through that much content that quickly.

message 633: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments I had an adviser once tell me not to go into History because there was, "a lot of reading." Then, once I blinked at him twice and said nothing, he got the point.

When it comes to dry reading I just spend some times cutting the texts and articles into equal amounts over - if the due date was a week and a half like yours - one week. Always want that extra time before a due date.

Although, I admit, with dry text I have to write out constant notes and even read out loud just to get through it.

message 634: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Yeah...It's not going to be fun, but I'll get through it. I'd like to say that I wish I had more time, but I probably would have waited a bit to start anyway. I tend to procrastinate a bit with text reading, but I always get through it.

message 635: by Savanes (last edited Jun 14, 2013 02:58AM) (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments I was at my gym party last night. They organized a fitness challenge last week :

- 60 reps with a third of the person's weight bench press
- 5 minutes in the "chair" position
- 30 pull ups
- 4 minutes in plank position
- 12 minutes of cycling (strength 5) to cover 9 km (a bit more than 5 miles).

Of course I didn't do all that:
- 40 reps - bench press
- 3 minutes - chair position
- 20 pull ups
- 4 min in plank
- 7.84 km in 12 minutes

I'm telling you, I almost cried at the end of it. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that you have 1 hour to do everything!!!! And I started training again about a month ago.

Well anyways we got the results last night and I ended up being 7th of the gym!! :D :D :D

The 1st one did everything perfectly! She's a "Mr Clean" woman and she's, wait for it.......... 55 YEARS OLD!!!! knowing that, I'm still d**n proud of my results!!

I hope everyone has great plans for the weekend! (going to have dinner with my sister whom I haven't seen for a few month so I'm very excited!!!).

message 636: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Wow, all this sounds really impressive. Congrats, Vanessa :D. I envy you being so fit LOL. Have a good time during the weekend.

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments FOUR MINUTES IN PLANK?!?!?! You are absolutely amazing!!!!!

message 639: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Thank you!!!

@Joanne. I'm just VERY prideful and competitive!!!! But did I mention the moaning during the last 2 minutes? ::hilarious:: & ::shame::

message 640: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
I still coudln't do that, even with the moaning! lol Especially after doing other stuff. Yikes!

message 641: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Moaning is fine! I can barely hold a plank for 4 seconds let alone 4 freaking minutes!!!

message 643: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments If you can run a 5K and are still training, I'm sure you'll do a 4min plank very soon. :)

message 644: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments By the way, I thought I couldn't do more than 45 seconds. Apparently after one point, it's more a question of mental strength rather than physical (so said the coach while I was cursing).

message 645: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I have shoulder/back issues. In the fall I did plank into downward dog and ripped my shoulder. So now, I tend to avoid them.

Ouch!! Hope your shoulder is better. That sort of thing can linger.

message 648: by Kat (new)

Kat (thewonderlandofbooks) I just had a new box of books come in :D. I got Cinder and its a beautiful cover. I have a question for you guys, whats your favorite book cover you have seen?

message 649: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6832 comments Mod
Ok, so I put Life After LIfe aside for a bit. Instead I'm listening to the audio of The Knife of Never Letting Go. Something I need to think less about for now. :) Plus, it fits into my A-Z Challenge.

Cathie - Are you still interested in reading it this month too? I know it is NO notice, but it should be a quick read for you!

Anyone else is welcome to join too.

message 650: by Cherene (new)

Cherene | 4 comments Yeesh, do any of you host review blogs? I just started doing it in May. I thought it would be small community of authors that would benefit from a mutual relationship - I love to read, they want me to read their book. It's getting overwhelming. lol

Favorite cover... Hmm...

I don't knoow about favorite, but due to the pressure of my 2D Fundamentals class in Art School, I am fascinated with the use of negative space on this cover.
