i had the same reaction

Suzanna Hoang Was I the only one that knew that Alex wasn't dead? I never believed it for a second, but now I'm torn between Julian and Alex. UGH. WHY?!

Erin Brienne wrote: "Okay so while reading this amazing series, i had several questions... Of course most of them started with WHYYYYY?????? (i.e. why did alex have to die, why did he have to come back when julian and ..."

Alex didn't come back till the end of the second book...??

Haidi Brienne, you probably should have posted this under Pandemonium rather than Delirium or stated that it included spoilers. People that haven't yet read Pandemonium may be a little bit upset to find out that Alex comes back in the second book. :)

Nurlely I didn't believe that Alex died easily. I thought that he will come back eventually. Alex is too strong of a character to meet his demise easily.
I was a bit upset when Lena found her next soulmate that soon, no matter how wonderful Julian is. I was not too excited of a love triangle in dystopian novel.

Sadly.... I am now served with that... :(

Ikr Alex was perfect!

Tina J I thought this question was about Delirium!
Not Pandemonium!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh well, it's not the first time someone's forgot to use 'Spoiler Alert' and ruined it for me.

Anyway, it was SO obvious Alex didn't die!
I already knew that and I haven't even read Pandemonium yet.
I always thought Lena would have another love interest though.

I never for a second thought Alex would be stupid enough to get himself killed.

I never for a second think Lena has anything but Stockholm syndrome feelings for Julian either. She hasn't told him how she feels, just let him tell her. She told Alex. For me, there's no competition. Alex all the way.

Suzanna Hoang Nah, Im pretty sure Lena does love Julian, differently than she did ALex for sure because he was her first love, and he was the one teaching her how to love. Now, Lena is the one showing Julian what love really is. Lauren Oliver has said before that she was trying to show that there could be love after loss.

It feels like a sibling sort of love to me. And someone said Lauren Oliver is not writing a love triangle, thank goodness.

Siobhan Lena and Julian.

Suzanna Hoang That may be possible on Lena's behalf (although I don't think it is true), but for Julian, I mean it just doesn't seem very likely for it to be sibling love. But that may just be my love of Julian speaking partially.

Thanks to heaven!! I try to read books without annoying love triangle.

Suzanna Hoang I think they're so common because IF done well, it can carry the story well. It adds a lot more conflict and depth to characters that we otherwise wouldn't see when it comes to facing certain predicaments. I don't mind them personally, but there are times when love triangles are just annoying and pointless and add nothing to the story.

Sierra Yeah...they could at least mix it up with like a love square or something if that makes any sense

Sierra I'm just saying for other authors to switch things up a little bit. Hopefully Lauren will switch things up in a different and uncommon way that will surprise us all but still be good :)

Suzanna Hoang Well, you have to admit that it's mainly in the YA genre that love triangles exist. And seeing as 90% of what I read is YA, it's my fault I'm exposed to it so much. There are plenty of other books out there that don't have love triangles.

Ifrah I didn't want to believe that Alex was dead at first but then as Lena started falling for Julian and accepting that Alex might actually be dead, I started thinking that he really way. So I was totally shocked and thrilled when he shows up at the end.
I'm still shipping for Julian though.

I will admit that two pages before the end of Pandemonium, I was finally ready to throw in the towel and accept that Alex might actually be gone for good. But then the frickin' door creaks open and at that point I was ready to shoot myself in the forehead.

And yes, I <3 Julian, too. Nothing against Alex, I just think Julian deserves to be loved seeing as he is still just beginning to see the world for what it actually is.

Siobhan Suzanna wrote: "That may be possible on Lena's behalf (although I don't think it is true), but for Julian, I mean it just doesn't seem very likely for it to be sibling love. But that may just be my love of Julian ..."

Oh, absolutely, I think Julian's very taken with the things that Lena talks about. Hana was too, I think Lena and Hana were looking for that kind of love, and Lena was lucky to find it. Lena can be very compelling when she talks which is why she was planted with Julian, to convince him to succumb to deliria, but whereas for him he thought she was asking him to love her and he did, she was always making the comparison to Alex. I actually think Julian would fit well with Raven, but I doubt that will happen.

Also, I don't think stories need a love triangle angle to be successful. I blame A Midsummer Night's Dream, with all the couples in love with each other. But still, there have been plenty of successful stories - and some of them YA - that don't rely on the love triangle crux. Like any of Cat Clarke or Cat Patrick's books or Jay Asher's books. Just for example ;)
