Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) Where She Went question

I read both If I Stay and Where She Went last weekend, and still have it on my mind.

It's funny because in If I Stay - during the Adam flashbacks - I never really got the full depiction that they were head over heals for each other - and why. During Mia's narration, she would kind of always put a negative twist on her and Adam's relationship saying she didn't fit into his world; they were an odd couple (Groovy and the Geek); she despised going to his shows (though just bc she felt out place); and even said she didn't think their relationship would have lasted in the beginning if it weren't for her home. At one point - she even asked him 'Why me?" in regards to why he wants to be with her - and I never really felt like we got a true answer - other than the music - does anyone else agree?

So it's weird I loved these books so much bc usually I like YA stories where you see both characters equally falling in love with each other - and have a chunk of the story devoted to that. But, I never really felt like we got that with Adam and Mia in either book.

I realized I liked these books for one sole reason: Adam. He was literally the perfect boyfriend to Mia. He didn't care that she wasn't punk-rock like him, he was always constant in her life, and my gosh, his devotion to her recovery after the accident and promising to do whatever she wanted so long as she chose to stay - he was the epitomy of what every girl dreams of for a boyfriend. In Where She Went - he literally broke my heart with his sadness over Mia leaving him. Even though we get her reasoning for doing so later - it doesn't really make much sense to me bc the boy was there for her through absolutely every stage of her recovery and she just decided she hated him???? How could you hate someone who made you their life and priority.

I was just curious if anyone thought Adam's feelings outweighed Mia's in their relationship - that he was more invested than her? I wish there was a 3rd book for real closure so we could see them mature in their future relationship and actually see happy times of them as a couple.
