Joan Szechtman | 401 comments I have just started reading the Kindle edition of The Last Days of Richard III and the fate of his DNA by John Ashdown-Hill. I don't often recommend a book until I finish it--but this is a must read. John has a lovely sense of humor and a dry style, but I'm finding this book a page turner, nonetheless.

In the case of books published by The History Press (THP), I find the ebooks preferable to the print if for no other reason than THP uses really small type face, especially in their paperbacks. Another advantage is that I can copy bits from the text (through the Kindle app on my PC) and paste it into the email as I did here. It even gives me the citation info that I'd need for a paper.

Darkpool | 91 comments Great to have such a glowing rec! It's certainly on my "to read" list (and it's in my local library!), but I was wondering if there might be a revised edition in the light of, well, you know...?

Joan Szechtman | 401 comments This is the revised edition that I'm recommending. I have the first in hard copy, but I bought the second in the Kindle format.

Ernestina (valern) | 76 comments I have the first edition too, what's the difference between that and the revised one?
I think I read somewhere there's a new chapter about the story of the dig.

Darkpool | 91 comments Righty, I've just updated the description of that edition from the publisher's website so it's more obvious to ninnys like me that this is the one with the additional content :-)

And now I guess I'd better order a copy...

Joan Szechtman | 401 comments The revision is fairly extensive, which I think justifies making it a "new" book rather than just a revision. The introduction was expanded.

These chapters were added between The Honour of a King and The Future of Richard III:
--Richard III's Genes part I--the Fifteenth Century and Before
--Richard III's Genes part I--the mtDNA line

An appendix on DNA evidence relating to the putative remains of Margaret of York preserved in Mechelen, Belgium was added between the Speede and Epitaph appendixes, and additional illustrations having to do with the dig including the facial reconstruction. For me, it was worth spending just under $10 for the Kindle edition.
