It looks like there are some trees in the background, and one on the far left side in between the fence railings. You might have to "cli..."

I'm sorry, but that doesn't really look as much like a tree as a floral design.

the difference is that this is a tree trunk showing. In Nation, all you can see is a lot of foliage, including some really big ferns, so there was nothing to tell that there was actually a tree involved. so, this will work.

well, if it looks like a rock in person, then you shouldn't use it. To me, it looks like a tree trunk.

I only have the ebook so I don't know how the actual cover looks. I went with rock because the water was so close and I thought she was leaning on a cliff but that's probably a Photoshopped image so I shouldn't go by that. :) And there's another version of the cover that shows the same image in 'daylight' and there it definitely looks more like a tree.
If I have some time, I'll stop by a B&N and check out a real copy before I submit it. :)

yes, those are trees

yes, those are trees

But I wanted to read Esperaanza Rising--
And on the cover she is flying over
the valley--- Way below her are orchards-
so would this count for "tree on the cover?"

Thanks

sorry, no, there really don't seem to be any distinct trees visible on the cover.
