MOVIE RANT!
Vivid Light ~ ♥♥ Vivid Light ~ ♥♥ Feb 15, 2013 08:55PM
I know there has been a couple thread like this before, but OMG i have some things to say.

First of all, I was NOT expecting the movie to be exactly like the book. It is a 500+ page book, after all.

I thought the acting overall was good. Alice and Alden played the parts well. As for the plot and storyline... that's a whole 'nother story. They missed characters. Rather important characters. Marian, Boo, The Sisters, Ryan, to name a few. Amma as the librarian? wth!?

Important happenings were also missed/altered. Yeah totally Ethan finding the locket and giving it to Lena, then they only get the visions when they both touch it? Wut. Many things were rushed, especially Lena and Ethan's relationship. There was way too much making out, lovey-dovey stuff that doesn't happen in the book. The family things like the circle to bind Lena didn't happen, along with countless other things.

THE ENDING
This deserves a whole nother part of the rant. So what, Macon poses as Ethan and gets shot by LINK?! (who, by the way, was hotter n Ethan;)) Then, in the book, on the sixteenth moon, there's a party and stuff thrown by Savannah and Emily (well Ridley) and only after that there's the magnificent battle (Only then does Sarafine reveal herself and kill Link's mom) In the movie she reveals herself waaaaaaaaay too early. What the heeeelllllllll........ Then Macon dies and Lena and Ethan are still bound by their love. The book ends with Ethan waking up to Seventeen Moons (which by the way, sixteen moons was not mentioned AT ALL. ) But in the movie Ethan's memory is wiped from their relationship and Ethan's off to NYC. wut.

If they make a movie for beautiful darkness (PLEASE DON'T) I do not see how they are gonna magically mend Ethan and Lena (Caster spell maybe?)
I'm only just starting Beautiful Darkness so I'm not sure, but one thing DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS HORRIBLE MOVIE!!! It just seems like they tried to get a basic storyline from the book and add some different things to make it on the screen. It was not "Based on the book"

This was the worst movie I've seen. Or maybe I'm just really upset right now ;|

I didn't like it as much as i wanted to. Although, from reading others' comments, i knew what to expect.

I just watched the movie and I am horrified at how much the book was butchered. Just awful. Lena's eyes aren't green, the boys aren't playing basketball but on the track team I assume? Where is Ridley's lollipops? Where are the caster songs? Why did they not have all the characters like the sisters, Marian, Macon's brother, boo, and Ridley's sisters? They never found the locket, he just had it. The one and only dream was wrong. Why did they not include the sharpie? There was so much wrong with the movie. SO MUCH. I really am just appalled. What a waste of a movie. It could have been sooo much better. I mean I did expect some changes but really there were only 2 things in the movie that were correct. This was horrible. Really really horrible. I wonder what Kami Garcia has to say about it.

You m'am are awesome.

I personally loved the movie!!! Yes there were characters missing, and the Shadowing song was gone and Ethan and Lena had southern accents. I'm fine with ALL OF THAT!!!! I absolutely LOVED the whole movie!! I loved the acting, the storyline, the setting, just everything about it!!! I knew going in to see the movie (I only saw it once but will watch it multiple times when I get the DVD) that it would be different from the book, which is why I tried not to compare it to the movie. And the ending?? Originally (when I first saw the movie) I didn't like the ending. But now I really like the ending.. I just absolutely LOVE EVERYTHING about the movie!!! 10/10!! Yes I'm fan-girling it, but I'm allowed considering that the Caster Chronicles series is the BEST SERIES EVER!!!! That's my opinion and I'm stocking to it!!!! :)

I didn't think the movie was too bad if you don't compare it to the book, but if you do then i hated it. First off, the thing I hated was no shadowing song. That was my favorite part! And what happened to going to seventeen moons, and them having more visions even aprt from each other. When he screamed Lena at the end, I really wanted to see them together! Not a fan of the ending. I want a sequel but I don't see how it will work anymore. And they didn't have boo!?

So there were a lot of things right with this movie, but some of my FAVORITE things in the book weren't there.

Im stuck in between it was okay and bad.

Ok tbh. The movie was well played. Now I admit some parts of the book were not held out right. and major characters were missing but in the long run the movie was f***ing fantastic. And I'm ready to see Beautiful Darkness be filmed. And in all honesty its sad to see people who complain.

I would love to see all you girls to try to make a movie!!! your not always going to get the way you want it. For all you girls who like twilight, well Kristen Stewart had no acting at all. all she had for acting was i have to take a sh!t face through the whole series. Also not everyone read the book so it don't matter. And if it ended weird it might mean theirs going to be another. And the accents its acting he's not actually southern.

Lightning, I understand that you have an opinion that should be expressed, but the way you said was downright rude and ungracious and just because you have a different opinion doesn't mean that you have to express it in such a hurtful manner.

The movie was so not like the book . I MEAN COME ON ETHAN AND LENA DONT EVEN TALK IN THIER HEADS IN THE MOVIE!!!!Personally the talking in heads thing is the best part of it all. its so strange and unrully but when you take it away like in the movie all you get is another romance story with a twist. Though it was still a good plot line but THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER
At least thats why i read them.

It has been 3 years since I read BD and my memory of it is a tad too fuzzy but I was still able to recognize most of the differences between the book and the movie. I didn't like Ethan's accent either and I thought the acting was a bit inconsistent but overall, I think it was a great movie. And that ending! I actually loved the ending. I rated the book 3/5 but I'm giving the movie 4/5. Awesome!

I like how you're the only other person that I've seen mention this. I swear I saw the trailer and was annoyed when I heard Ethan's accent.......

Jordan See, I wasn't really concerned with the accents. Because I think the actors were really good. ...more

Is it bad that I liked the movie? I havent read BC or BR, but beside not mentioning Incubuses and the last fifteen minutes of the movie I really liked it.

How on earth are they going to continue the series as movies? Yeah they can probably write in that as soon as Ethan left gatlin he remembered Lena etc. but book 3 and 4 kind of rely on Ethan having died and being saved by Lena using the book of moons. It's just not feasible that they could write that in!! Seriously you would think that if they wanted to start a movie adaptation of a SERIES!! You might read ALL the books so that the story line can be continued throughout the movies!! Apart from the ending I thought the movie was alright. Having read the book a while before the movie it wasn't so fresh in my mind to miss some of the finer details. Though there definitely should have been more to the school trying to get rid of Lena storyline!

I liked the movie, but wished Marian was in it, I liked where Ethan remembers everything and it ends.

Movie was awful. I cannot understand why someone bought this story and completely changed the plot and story.I liked the actors, but Ethan's accent was awful and fake. There won't be another movie because it tanked at the box office. In short they changed everything that made the book so special.

I did enjoy the book and I am now on the third one! The movie, sad to say, was a not as enjoyable. I am thinking I will not go see the other movies at the theaters and just wait until they come on TV.

this movie ticked me off I was two seconds from throwing my shoe at the screen. I get they cant put everything in the movie that was in the book but they messed up the ending completely .larkin is suppose to be evil, Ethan wasn't suppose to loose his memory, and wtf link kills his best friend if they wanted to make this movie any farther from the book they can go ahead and give them pointy hats and broomsticks.

Acted like what? A normal teenage boy? He doesn't act right in the books, in all honesty. He was more believable in the movies in his actions (and adorable imho.)

found someone that made Sixteen moons song (made it a melody) http://thecasterchronicles.wikia.com/...

This was one of the worst book to movies I have ever seen! Reasonings:
- half the book characters were missing
- the casting was horrible (Ethan should NOT have looked or acted like that)
- link tried killing Ethan! (WHYYYY)
- Ethan found the locket by himself
- WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SIXTEEN MOONS?!
- Ridley didn't have the flipping lollipop that I loved
- Ethan's mind was wiped?!
- the ending made it impossible to make any more movies

I really didn't like the Movie what so ever. None of it happened in the book and they pretty much combined the first two books and a bit of the third into this film. They missed so many different characters and I did not like how the actors played their parts (well they had to work with a script that didnt follow the book).
God I hope they dont try to make Beautiful Darkness into a movie aswell since they added in most of that storyline into this movie. Seriously, she not meant to be claimed until Beautiful Darkness and Why did they make Ethan lose his mermory????
It was all so stupid.

I disagree with all of the hate comments, I thought it was amazing! in the book, some parts just dragged on and I was dying for them to get to the point so I think speeding it up a notch or two was a good idea. I liked a lot of the changes because they made the movie good for people who have and haven't read the book. as for the missing characters, I don't like that at all, you need Marian and the sisters! as for the actors, I thought they were good picks and just needed to work on their accents at times. I really hope they make the rest of the series or at least one more because ending it with him screaming lena made me want to watch more!

Rakhi Mira i thought the movie was amazing too!

To be honest, and I know people are going to be hating on my for this, but I liked the movie better than the book. I really like this series, but I am not a fan of the writing. I think it's really repetitive. I thought the movie was more romantic, and I thought the whole erase-Ethan's-mind was clever, and it made sense. So I was pleasantly surprised with the movie. I'm on book three now, and the writing is getting better, so hopefully I will have a good review on the series as a whole. :)

Well, I have to admit I did not read the book until after seeing the film. I come from the world of TV and film first. But I thought the film was so intelligently written, superb dialogue -- not boring and predictable, but crisp, funny with lots of pathos. I read the book, and I do agree with you, it's far more rich, but I probably would have never picked it up if I hadn't seen the film first. I prefer fast paced continuing stories. I don't like when they drag or are overly loaded with superfluous narrative. But again, coming to this genre as a TV/film writer, I am aware of the imperative an author has to keep it moving or the viewer just changes the channel.

For me beautiful creatures is more than a book,it is one of those things which end up being a part of you and no matter how ridiculous or how bad the plot twists be it surpassed a level where it was not perfect but beyond the realm of comparisons.
Now you know how much i loved the book and as soon as i heard the movie announcement , i went into state of depression I DID NOT WANTED TO INTRODUCE to people this gem of a book through a stupid movie no absolutely not .
Nevertheless i checked the movie and was not that disapointed, apart from few major plot changes i think the overall movie was ok and i found casting to be spot on and perfect especially for link and lena

I agree with this post totally. I've loved this book since day one and was THRILLED when they we're making a movie and when I was ready to watch it I was so disappointing. The way they did the "visions" or "flashbacks" was horrible. You had no clue what they meant or what they even were. I really had to separate book from movie because they because two different stories. The movie, for movie and money-making reasons, was good. But, it barely had the basic concept of the book itself.

My favorite characters from the book were missing.
The Sisters are hilarious and important to the plot if the creaters of the movie plan to make the next 3 movies in the series.
And Mairian! How could they laeve her out? She is really important in Beautiful Chaos.
And for many other reasons, I think the movie sucked.

It was painful to watch.

At the end she just kills the most POWERFUL CASTER OF ALL...So this not even 16 year old just defeats her without Sarafine even trying to defend.

I thought it was a good movie

but it shouldnt have been associated with the book that's all

i thought the movie was ok yes they left out some main parts but yes i still liked it.

MOVIE FREAKING SUCKED ASS

I'm really glad I watched the movie before reading the book - the book was a great improvement on the movie, and I would've just felt betrayed if I'd loved the book and then saw how they changed it for the movie.

You do realise I did say
"First of all, I was NOT expecting the movie to be exactly like the book."

I saw the film first and enjoyed it so much that I read the book. If the movie didn't exist, I never would've have given Beautiful Creatures a second look. Give it some credit.

I do admit though, some of my favourite parts aren't in the film, which did make me sad :( But, I think that the movie having missed those parts makes the book more exciting to read because you want to relive those parts. So, in a way, it's a good thing.

If the movie had everything in it, most people wouldn't bother to read the book again, they'd just watch the film.

There you have it. (I love both, btw) :D

Plus they didn't include the shadowing songs.

That movie was almost nothing like the book! The only reason I'd like to watch beautiful darkness is to see how they try to clean up what they left out.
First of all, Lena and Ethan don't even kelt! That's huge in beautiful darkness and beautiful chaos! They're probably going to just add it in but that won't flow smoothly at all!
Then ethan's great aunts aren't in it either?! Aunt Prue is another extremly important factor in the 2nd,3rd and 4th! If they just add these in it will be awful!
On Lena's 16th moon, there's supposed to be a party, but instead there's a boring old ceremony led by Aunt Del?!
Plus, Ethan was supposed to be stabbed at the end, not shot! And ten Lena and Amma were supposed to bring him back using the book of moons. Macon was supposed to die because Hunting jumped on his back and killed him, and Hunting wasn't even in it!
I suppose they're goibg to add more in about Ms. english later too.
And what abou Marian? She's the keeper, not Amma! They're probably goibg to just add her in later too bacuse Liv comes to Marian for training in beautiful darkness. Plus all that Far Keep stuff happens to her in Beautiful Chaos.
I know the dad was sort of "included" but I didn't see Ethan abd Lena finding out he went mad! I didn't see him attempt to commit suicide on Lena's 16 moon by Ridley!
They should just change the title because they're missibg way too many important factors.

I do not give FUCK what you anyyyyy of you wanna say about his comment. Because this movie was total horse shit thanks the screenwriters and producers. The books were fantastic. The movie itself if you have never read the book would be pretty damn BUT still very FUCKING confusing as the people above me have already mentioned...first of all lack of characters total bullllll! Why???! Why. Why. Why????! No reason. I understand you can't everything from a book into a movie. But seriously there is nooooooo reason to take out the most important people and scenes just to add the pile of CRAP that never. EVER. EVER. happened in the book just for their own satisfaction. Why?! Was the book's storyline not good enough to follow? Secondly the little shit. Lena's hair not black, couldn't have died it? Lena's eyes NOT GREEN!!!!! Wtf!!! Lena's charm necklace she never took it off! And it had a BUNCH of shit on it. Ridley, the FUCK IS THE LOLLIPOP?! And the blond hair? Sarafine never died! Macon didn't get a chance to say his last fucking words...Ethan obviously doesn't have and accent neither does Lena! Disappointment to the extreme! I have neeverrrrr been soooo disappointed in a book to movie piece of work. I hope they find new screenwriters or pay attention to the upset fans wether or not they think we complain too much over a simple movie..I can assume the authors were disappointed as well. After all the work put into the book for it to be ripped and distorted into a mess of this non-existent version of Beautiful Creatures. Wow. Clean up your mess.

This film was okay I guess. But I have a few problems.
1)They missed out characters like The Sisters, Boo, we hardly see Ethan's dad (We at least hear a little about him in the book) and Marian. BIG MISTAKE. No spoiler but when they make Beautiful Chaos and Beautiful Redemption they are going to struggle immensely as she has a huge role! Unless they use Amma which is a bad idea.
2) KELTING. OH DEAR. For me kelting in the book was one of the main bits! Seeing that Ethan and Lena have a special connection, it wouldn't have been much trouble to of add in audio over the top! Seriously now they just sound like a couple of self obsessed teenagers. IT WAS MEANT TO BE SPECIAL.
3) HOW ON EARTH COULD YOU MISS OUT THE SONG?! That was basically the core element of the books! They spend half the time in the book trying to find out what the song means.
4) Accents? No.
5) THE ENDING WAS TERRIBLE. How on Earth are they going to pull that back in? Good luck with that.

On a positive note, I loved how the songs fit in, for me they were perfect and lots of you may disagree but I think casting Jeremy Irons as Macon was a pretty good idea. For me he is portrayed perfectly!

Rant over, feel free to reply, I'd love to know your theories xo

That why I try to never watch the movie it only makes me mad- so just read the book and watch movie that don't have books with them, ( that its the true creativity is.) I learned that after I read all the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books and I am Number Four book and watch the movie.

Ok so this film was THE BEST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEEN IN MY WHOLE INTIRE LIFE!!! AND mind you iv seen some reallly good films! It was soo much better than twilight and what I LOVED was the fact it wasnt like the book!!! I liked that because if youv read the book and the films like it then it would be soo boring but this was pure amazing!!! I really want them to make beautiful darkness into a book! I really think it will get far!!!!! I loved it and I really hope everyone else did too and they make beautiful darkness!!!:D

You guys wanna know what I think? I think the movie-makers just made the movie so something would be fit into the 2013 Valentine slot in the theater. No one was serious in making this into a movie, rather than romanticizing it more. NO ONE ever focuses on the paranormal fantasy arc of the plot. They put so much spotlight on the romance, everything else about it seems stupid.

I doubt they're going to shoot a sequel. I only read the first book and God how little the room they left for the sequel.

I just really hate Hollywood right now.

i completely 110% agree witht everything you said in this rant

I actually really liked the movie, despite the fact that pretty much the entire time I was in the theater I was hitting in my friends leg in anger at what they changed.

I'm just trying to keep the book and the movie separate in my head (you kinda have to, I think, if you want to continue liking both of them). I mean, I can understand why they changed a lot of it (the main reason was that they weren't expecting to get a ton of money in the box office and had to make sure that they could have the movie work as a stand-alone in case they weren't able to make a sequel), but I was still mad. The ending was what really pissed me off - why on earth did they have to have Ethan forget Lena? Why?? And they are certainly going to regret not having a ton of the major characters in there if they do end up making a second movie. I also completely agree about the Sixteen Moons song - and the kelting! Don't forget the kelting! - because that was kinda what caused the entire book (you know, just maybe).

I could not agree more, very well said!
I literally had to stop myself from getting too angry throughout the entire film.
I feel like I want to throw large rocks at whoever wrote the damn screenplay. (Looking at you, LaGravenese, looking right at you)
It's such a crying shame because the cast was so wonderful. Alice is magnificent as Lena, (despite the hair and eyes, but hey. I think Alice is just marvellous.

I can't even put into words how disappointed I am, (despite knowing it wasn't gonna be like the book) but this, this was just utterly ridiculous.

Yup.

it's called having a different opinion, look it up some time.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but it looks good to me. I'm still going to see it tomorrow and try not to be nitpicky. But they did read the book, but only the first one.
