I found it boring too. I would have been interested in what you thought of it if you had read it, as I found the 'italics' sections offputting. Although others had no problem with them.

They don't usually put me off. I often read 2 or 3 books at the same time anyway (as in switching books every chapter) so I like having double stories in a book. Though with the whole abridged thing, I think I missed a whole lot of the second tale.

I finished this book and thought "You're killin' me Smalls". This is the second missed group read I've finished and I find myself rather unimpressed. This wasn't a terrible book but it wasn't a great book. Oh well. Keep moving forward, right?

I gave it 3 stars, Gretchen, so we are on the same page with this book. I couldn't get into it at all. I liked enough elements not to give it 2 stars, but only just.

The view of the trade business in the 17th century was interesting enough to keep me reading but outside of that there wasn't anything to keep me interested. (view spoiler)[ I was rather unimpressed with how everything just magically fell together for Miguel and Hannah. They pretty much ruined everyone around them but still came out on top. I felt that was kind of a cop out on the author's part. (hide spoiler)]
